Outi Haanperä: Green to Scale and climate solutions
1. Nordic Green to Scale
31 October 2018 Outi Haanperä
How much can we reduce emissions globally if compara
achieve by 2030 what some have already achieved today
2. Green to scale: How far we can go with what we
already have?
• Understandable concerns slow down climate action
• Do we have the technology to rapidly reduce emissions?
• How much will it cost?
• Are the suggested solutions feasible in my country?
• Can it be done?
The project analyses the potential of scaling up existing
climate solutions to the extent that some countries have
already achieved to date
3. Inspiring results from global green to scale
study
• Global Green to Scale in 2015 covered 17
solutions from both the global North and the
South
• 12 Gt emission reduction potential – equal to
about 1/4 of current global emissions
• Annual net costs at most $94 billion – less than
1/5 of current direct fossil fuel subsidies
6. Nordic green to scale
- Nordic Green to Scale in 2016
analysed the potential of 15 Nordic
solutions
–4 Gt emission reduction potential – equal
to total EU emissions today
–Annual net costs $13 billion – equal to 9
days of current direct fossil fuel subsidies
–The Nordic Green to scale approach
studied in detail in Africa and in the Baltic
countries, Poland and Ukraine
