Spandan's research deals with three different aspects of structural health monitoring. His first focus is to develop an unsupervised algorithm that detects the defects in a structure with maximum efficiency. For this purpose, he has proposed a principal component analysis based multivariate CUSUM chart. The second part of the research focuses on prognostics and prediction of the useful-life of structures based on the observed Lamb-wave sensor data. He has proposed an algorithm that uses principal component regression coupled with a Wiener degradation process to predict the failure time distribution of the structure.
