2. Background
I first started of with the background, I knew what colours I wanted to pick
as I wanted the audience to relate. I chose the reggae colours, orange,
yellow and green. This helped me on deciding where my title should be etc.
The colours represent reggae and the music and the people who are
Rastafarian or generally Caribbean. I wanted my background to come
across as appealing towards the audience as I used bright colours
symbolising the happy, and vibrant upbringing of Reggae, I used the
transition from red, to yellow to green, this gives a smooth and eye-
catching feel to the poster. The colours support the background of reggae
and the roots. I thought this would also set the mood for my poster. It was
not hard to set the transition. I didnt want any others included in my
background as it would not go with the purpose of my poster.
3. Title
I decided to add a 3D effect to my title as it comes across
as eye catching. I added a green neon colour so that the
poster is even more colourful and easy to read. I
transformed the text so the text is diagonal, I done this
purposely so images can be around the text. I felt that the
colours went with the background as it is a pop of colour,
even though green is included in the background I felt that
it would bring the viewers attention to the title “REGGAE
MUSIC”. I made sure I added a shadow effect behind the
text so it gives an old school look as reggae music has
been around for a long time.
4. Text
I added text so the poster is not plain with just an image and
title, I made sure the audience can relate and get informed by
the poser as the text includes history of music, what it
represents (love) and the different genres of reggae. I went with
a font that looks old-school, as reggae started a very long time
ago, also it goes well with the title font. I chose the colour black
because I wanted the font to be basic but bold. Even though it is
simple it is easy to read. I felt that I needed to include text as
well as images as it was my purpose to inform the viewer of
what my poster is bout. Also I wanted the viewer to know the
amount of genres there are in Reggae so the viewer is taking in
not only images of reggae artists but knowledge too.
5. Images
The images that are included in my reggae poster
have been found from the internet. I cropped the Judy
Mowatt image and the image of prince jazz Bo. I
picked these images because they are different. I
decided to include well known reggae artists, as typical
posters include the legendary Bob Marley. I wanted to
be different and include other legendary artists who are
not really shown or known as much as Bob Marley. I
wanted to choose images that would go well with my
poster, so I searched up graphic designed images. I
felt that it would go very well with my background. I
used graphic designed images as it made my poster
look more creative and different.
6. Title (Final edit)
On my feedback I was told that the neon green did not go
well with the rest of my poster as many bright colours are
included which made the title clash with the other text
included. I decided to change the title to black as it is bold
but also simple and clear to see. I kept the 3D text so it
stands out towards the audience.
Black is a good colour to use in posters as you can capture
the text from a far. Also it is a good colour to use when using
vibrant colours as you wouldn’t want them to clash or it
would be too much. I also changed the text to not being
diagonal as I wanted the image to still wrap the text, but I felt
as though the space could be filled with my images,
Included my text in the right place.
7. Text (final edit)
I moved the text from the top to the bottom as I wanted my point of focus to
be on the images. The title wraps round one of the images of one of the
reggae artists. It made the poster look slick and vibrant.
I changed the text colour to my colour scheme background which was red,
yellow, green representing reggae and the culture. It was better than having
black text by it self as it came across as boring. I decided to keep the font
the same as it fits the poster well. I just aligned the text in the left hand side
so the mages can take up the spaces.
8. Images (final edit)
In my feedback I was told to change the colours of my images due
to copyright. I was successful as I changed the colour in
hue/saturation and light. It made the image look even better it also
went with the colour scheme. I positioned the images differently on
my final edit as the images was in need to be bigger.
I made sure I made the images the right size so it is visible to the
viewer. I changed the positions of the images so it can be the point
of focus.
