A curious attraction that can be found in the province of
Negros Occidental
3. The Lacson Family
• The remains of an ancestral old mansion in the City of
Talisay, Metro Bacolod, are the most photographed location
on Negros Island. This burned-down mansion, dubbed the
"Taj Mahal of the Philippines" and more often known as The
Ruins, has become a major tourist attraction in Bacolod in
recent years.
• Hundreds of tourists from all over the country come to this
440-hectare plantation every day merely to take a picture in
front of the once-grand palace, which belonged to a wealthy
sugar baron's family in the early 1900s.
4. THE MANSION
• The Mansion was constructed in
1920 and was developed in May
2007. It opened to the public as a
tourist attraction in January 2008.
This Mansion is already 101 years
old.
5. How did
the
mansion
burn
down?
• On the first attempt of the
Japanese to burn the mansion, they
used 3 (three) drums of gasoline.
But they were unsuccessful, and
nothing happened. They came back
again with two (2) drums but mixed
with used oil so the burning will last
longer. After three (3) days, all the
wooden parts are burned.
6. WHY YOU SHOULD GO TO
THE MANSION?
• Going to the mansion, you will learn the history of
what happened, and you can feel both tragic and amazed
in this place. Overall, it's a great experience on how
they've tried to maintain the remains while also adding
some structure to make it more interesting to see. There
is a souvenir shop on the premises, as well as a cafeteria
in the vicinity. Apart from the stunning ruins, the region
is still adding new attractions. It's also pleasant due to
the well-kept grass and trees in the region.

exhibited in the first museum
build in the Philippines
known as the Negros
Museum.
10. Establishment
of the museum
• The Negros museum started its
construction in 1987 at the Provisional
Capitol Building, & was inaugurated on the
16th of March, 1996. Along with the
antique ancient artifacts, the museum was
filled with the recent contemporary works
of local artists representing the stories
describing Negros Islands and the events
that occurred during their times.
• But later on, the Negros Museum was
moved from the previous location
to Gatuslao Street, where the museum
was housed in the Agricultural building
of Bacolod City.

you are going. You will never forget this place if
you have the opportunity to see the owner's
daughter's collection of international toys. It was
placed in a room with air conditioning to preserve
the toys. It is a unique experience for you to be
able to tour a room filled with toys. It was
beautifully curated, and the museum attendant
will explain every toy in detail.

of Bacolod that you would want to try. The three
food such as Piaya, Napoleone's, and
Sugarlandia Barquillos are the favorite
pasalubong or souvenir of Filipinos. The
Bacolod Chicken Inasal is their number one
famous food found in their place.

19. History
• During the 1950s, a few vendors started selling chicken barbeque by
accident. They started selling at the sidewalk of Floredith Theater using their
pushcarts, and from then on, they move to different places near where they
started to sell. Inasal means barbecue or to roast and is the food specialty of
the province.
20. • Each vendor has different versions of flavors of
chicken inasal, but tasting the authentic flavor of
the original Chicken Inasal is worth paying for,
and that you would want to try it again.

go to Bacolod!

Bacolod, it is home to 20
different stalls rented out by
various restaurants, many of
whom are descendants of the
original state vendors who sell
the same thing, warm delicious
Chicken Inasal.
• Many people who go there do
not forget to taste the famous
Bacolod Chicken Inasal; of
course, the locals are already
used to and familiar with the
authentic taste of their dish.

25. Philippine Sailfin
Lizard
• Binomial name: Hydrosaurus pustulatus
• Sailfin lizards are semiaquatic and able to
run short distances across water using both
their feet and tail for support, similar to the
basilisks. They are threatened by both habitat
loss and overcollection for the wild animal
trade. They are the only members of the
subfamily Hydrosaurinae.
• Found in Negros Forest Park
You will see this lizard among
the other known animals when
you go to Bacolod!

27. Moon Luna
Binomial Name:
• Actias philippinica is a moth (gamugamo in
tagalog) in the family Saturniidae. It is found in
the Philippines. It is very similar in appearance
to Actias isis
• It’s beautiful appearance and has a crescent
moon shape on the upper wings.
• Found in Negros Forest Park
The name itself will intrigue you with how it looks like!
29. Visayan Warty
Pig
• Binomial Name: Sus cebifrons
• The Visayan warty pig is a critically
endangered species in the pig genus. It is
endemic to six of the Visayan Islands in the
central Philippines. It is known by many names
in the region with most translating into 'wild pig':
baboy ihalas, baboy talonon, baboy sulop
baboy ramo.
• Previously found throughout the
lush rainforests of the Philippines’ six West
Visayas islands, the critically endangered swine
now roams small pockets of only two: Panay
and Negros.
• Found in Negros Forest Park
That look sure looks creepy when you see it in front of you in
Bacolod!

31. Spiny Orb Weaver
Binomial name: Gasteracantha clavigera
• The famous spider from Charlotte's Web is a
barn orb-weaver spider, Araneus cavaticus.
Orb weaving spiders produce the familiar flat,
ornate, circular webs usually associated with
spiders. Orbweavers come in many shapes
and sizes, but the brightly colored garden
orbweavers, Argiope spp., are the largest and
best known.
• Orbweavers are generally harmless and can
be a nuisance when they build large webs in
places inconvenient for humans. Despite their
formidable appearance, orb weaver spiders
are not considered dangerous.

33. Visayan spotted deer
• Binomial Name: Rusa alfredi
• The Visayan spotted deer, also known as the "Philippine spotted deer" or "Prince Alfred's deer", is
a nocturnal and endangered species of deer located primarily in the rainforests of the Visayan
islands of Panay and Negros though it once roamed other islands such as Cebu, Guimaras,
Leyte, Masbate, and Samar

too in Bacolod!
36. MassKara Festival also known as “Festival of Smiles”, is one of the
most famous, one of the most happiest and cheerful, and one of the
most colorful festivals here in the Philippines. It is celebrated
during the month of October in Bacolod. The whole month of
October is filled with a colorful cheerful dances.
37. Origin
This Festival is originated back in 1980,
when Bacolod is in crisis. Art Association
of Bacolod-Negros, conducted a workshop
around the area, and they taught the
residents on how to create a mask out of
coconut husk and also with a use of a
paper mache. Before, those mask are just
sold as a souvenir for the tourists coming
to the place to visit, and it become a hit
and it attracted a lots of tourist. It also said
that they are using those mask to hide
their tears. Those masks are colorful and
filled with smile, so Bacolod got the
nickname of “The City of Smiles”.

Bacolod to enjoy the MassKara
Festival. Many book a flight every
October to Bacolod to see the
colorful events held here. Many
foreigners from different countries
come to Bacolod to have fun. Lively
dancing, colorful clothes, delicious
food, and smiles on the faces of the
people of Bacolod will greet the
tourists who want to have fun. They
will not be called the "City of Smile"
for no reason.
