THE MANSION/ RUINS IN BACOLOD
A curious attraction that can be found in the province of
Negros Occidental
The Lacson Family
• The remains of an ancestral old mansion in the City of
Talisay, Metro Bacolod, are the most photographed location
on Negros Island. This burned-down mansion, dubbed the
"Taj Mahal of the Philippines" and more often known as The
Ruins, has become a major tourist attraction in Bacolod in
recent years.
• Hundreds of tourists from all over the country come to this
440-hectare plantation every day merely to take a picture in
front of the once-grand palace, which belonged to a wealthy
sugar baron's family in the early 1900s.
THE MANSION
• The Mansion was constructed in
1920 and was developed in May
2007. It opened to the public as a
tourist attraction in January 2008.
This Mansion is already 101 years
old.
How did
the
mansion
burn
down?
• On the first attempt of the
Japanese to burn the mansion, they
used 3 (three) drums of gasoline.
But they were unsuccessful, and
nothing happened. They came back
again with two (2) drums but mixed
with used oil so the burning will last
longer. After three (3) days, all the
wooden parts are burned.
WHY YOU SHOULD GO TO
THE MANSION?
• Going to the mansion, you will learn the history of
what happened, and you can feel both tragic and amazed
in this place. Overall, it's a great experience on how
they've tried to maintain the remains while also adding
some structure to make it more interesting to see. There
is a souvenir shop on the premises, as well as a cafeteria
in the vicinity. Apart from the stunning ruins, the region
is still adding new attractions. It's also pleasant due to
the well-kept grass and trees in the region.
