GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y
Today, RR Donnelley is in 14 different time zones, on five
continents, in nearly 40 countries throughout the world, and
is dedicated to operating responsibly in all of them. This
Global Corporate Social Responsibility Report reflects our
accomplishments in a variety of important areas, including
Sustainability, Environment, Health, Safety, Diversity and
Inclusion, Education and Training, and Community.
The individual actions of our employees make a difference by
considering the environment, by helping their fellow employees,
and by being good citizens in their communities. We all
contribute whenever we turn off unused lights, follow safety
precautions, volunteer in our communities or solve customer
problems while limiting negative effects on people and the
environment.
We take these actions not because they are in our job
descriptions, but simply because we care, we want to create
positive results in the world and we are given choices and
opportunities to make a difference. When we look at all of our
efforts combined, it reveals how much we value this ongoing
commitment to operational and social responsibility.
As you read the perspectives and stories told by RR Donnelley
leaders and employees, we hope you will share in our
appreciation for these important topics, and that it may
spark ideas of your own to create opportunities for making a
difference in your own homes, workplace, community and the
world, we share.
PREFACE
GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y
a leading integrated
communication services
provider
At RR Donnelley, we recognize that a sustainable environment is
critical to our society, our business and our people. For more than
150 years, we have shown our commitment to using natural
resources efficiently, to supporting the health, wellness and safety
of our employees, and to giving back to the communities in which
we live and work.
As a leading integrated communication services provider, we
connect organizations with their audiences through the power of
words and images. As multichannel communication evolves,
meeting our customers’ changing needs continues to influence how
we manufacture products and deliver services in line with our
sustainability, environmental, health and safety policies.
We’ve integrated our sustainability initiatives of efficiency, green
procurement, waste minimization and stewardship across all of our
worldwide operations, because we understand that it is cost
effective and good for our environment.
Our facilities are triple-certified by the Forest Stewardship
Council®
, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest
Certification, and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®
. From our
associations with certified forestry initiatives to our sourcing of
more sustainable inks, we work to minimize the environmental
footprint of products produced.
RR Donnelley’s logistics business is a SmartWay®
Transport Partner
at our United States and Canada operations. We collaborate with
the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Natural
Resources Canada (NRCan) and the freight industry to increase
energy efficiency while trimming greenhouse gas emissions and air
pollution, and help us transport materials in the cleanest, most
efficient way possible.
In more than 100 RR Donnelley facilities worldwide, we’re working
to reduce energy consumption using many different technologies.
As a result, we’ve achieved a cumulative annualized energy savings
equivalent to 17.93 million gallons of gasoline, or the amount used
by 30,859 cars.
Of all of our responsible business practices, nothing is more
important than our commitment to the safety of our employees.
We’re very proud of the many awards and recognition for safety that
we have received from organizations around the world.
We actively demonstrate our value of workforce diversity and
inclusion, and you will read about the many programs taking place
throughout the world. Finally, you’re sure to enjoy the many
wonderful stories about how employees across the globe are
improving the quality of life in so many communities in which we
operate.
At RR Donnelley, our corporate responsibility shows not just in
words, but also in our actions each day. Our commitment to
creating a better world has been part of our work for 150 years and
will continue to be the foundation of all we do for many years
to come.

SUSTAINABILITYOur values show every time we convert to
energy-saving light fixtures at a facility,
support a customer seeking to improve
sustainability, or create inclusion programs
that value every employee.
Corporate responsibility requires an organization to define its
values and continually work to strengthen its commitment to the
highest ethical and environmental standards.
We have a comprehensive commitment to sustainable
environmental practices, diversity among our employees, health
and safety initiatives, and to giving back to the communities
around the world that we call home.
Our values show every time we convert to energy-saving light
fixtures at a facility, support a customer seeking to improve
sustainability, or create inclusion programs that value every
employee.
To protect the environment, we create best practices that guide
us to use our resources efficiently and help our supply chain
adopt sustainable practices. We work to reduce, reuse and recycle
wherever possible in all of our facilities around the world.
We’re working to make a difference in places like our Shenzhen,
China facility, where we have a regenerative thermal oxidizer
that reduces 99% of the volatile carbon emissions from our web
printing process stack air. In addition to treating the process air,
the regenerative thermal oxidizer runs on natural gas and is
designed to be 92% thermally efficient. We have over 40 locations
with similar pollution control devices.
Organizations around the globe have recognized our work with
awards and certifications that attest to our commitment to quality.
In today’s competitive environment, maintaining acceptable levels
of quality is a significant accomplishment that means achieving
compliance with many different customer, legal and
organizational requirements.
Our commitment to safety remains our top priority. Today,
hundreds of our global manufacturing facilities routinely work
one million hours without a lost time injury – a remarkable
achievement. Many of our locations have achieved VPP Star
Status, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s
recognition of exemplary performance. Our Recordable Case Rate
is more than half of the nation’s print industry average, yet we will
not rest until we reach zero injuries.
We also firmly believe in creating workplace environments that
truly value diversity and inclusion, provide training, and promote
leadership. We value and support our employees’ impressive
community volunteering activities. In this report, we share many
examples of how our employees use creativity, innovation,
inspiration and compassion as they try to help solve problems
confronting the company and the communities in which we work.
Impressive achievements like ours do not just materialize. Hard
work and leadership from individuals and teams willing to take
responsibility for making a difference in the world is what
ultimately writes the chapters of RR Donnelley’s corporate and
social responsibility record.
At RR Donnelley, we are proud of our commitment to both the
safety of our employees and to protecting the environment and we
will continue to set and strive for the highest safety performance
and for the lowest environmental impact on this world we share.

The stories shared on these pages remind us that diversity and
inclusion are a reality at RR Donnelley. We create environments
in which people feel welcomed, respected and valued. Through
more than 34 RR Donnelley Inclusion Councils around the
world, employees foster workplaces where contributing different
ideas is embraced. Employees share experiences and participate
in activities focusing on diversity, inclusion, learning and
professional development.
Our employees learn how to be accountable for inclusion
through a curriculum that promotes awareness, influences
positive behavioral changes and encourages leadership by
example. We celebrate diversity by encouraging different
experiences, cultures and points of view in our workplaces.
In addition to our Inclusion Councils and training on the value
of diversity and inclusion, we have specialized areas of focus
such as our Women’s Business Resource Group (WBRG) and
Professionals of Color Employee Resource Group (POC ERG).
Both of these groups provide professional development
workshops, opportunities to increase business knowledge and
networking activities such as personal branding strategies,
leadership training and networking events. Participants also hear
from senior leaders through an executive roundtable speaker
series.
Our company leadership recognizes and embraces the belief
that individuals who are valued for who they are and what they
bring to work will strive to bring their best each day. When we
promote an environment of diversity and inclusion, it helps
people feel like they belong, which in turn helps increase
loyalty, build collaboration and foster a commitment to our
mutual success.

“I personally have experienced mentorship that is filled with guidance, motivation and inspiration. There’s a reason that a 150-year-old
company continues to survive under very challenging economic climates throughout its history. I believe this survival is due to the people
that it attracts, and in turn the legacy they leave behind generationally. I have thrived here because people have believed in me and
aligned my talent with work and teams where I can confidently make a difference.”
– Matina Montes, RR Donnelley, Elgin, IL
“RR Donnelley has been a part of my life for 29 years. This company gave me an opportunity to grow, expand my career and build
relationships that are like family to me. RR Donnelley allowed me to raise my children and has also helped them as they have begun their
careers and worked their way through college. My commitment and loyalty to this company is unshakeable. Thanks, RR Donnelley, for
allowing me to be part of this amazing team!”

Sign language trainers from V-shesh assisted RR Donnelley’s
in-house process trainers in learning sign language and

“I joined the company through Udaya, an inclusion program for orthopedically-challenged individuals. The initiative not only made me
competent, but also helped me communicate, and today, my life has new meaning. No one notices my disabilities. On the contrary,
everyone notices my abilities. It is when I step out of the facility that I realize how different things are. I have grown so much that the last
four years have seen me receive two promotions and about a half a dozen best performer awards. I can never forget nor even dream of
leaving this company because no one understands what it truly takes to be an equal opportunity employer better than RR Donnelley!”
– Anbu, RR Donnelley, Chennai, India
“Since the day I joined, I’ve been exposed to an environment that constantly challenges me and keeps me engaged. I am extremely
appreciative of the connectivity between employees and the leadership. Most of my managerial role models are leaders at RR Donnelley.
Another noteworthy mention is that this job has enabled me to have a good balance between work, studies and family life.”

■ In 2014, RR Donnelley in the United Kingdom (U.K.)
introduced the Leadership Academy designed to improve
managers’ skills and better equip them to manage, lead and
develop teams and individuals. The Leadership Academy
consists of three levels: Executive Mentoring Leadership
Development; Management Diploma; and Management
Certificate.
■ “Inspiring tomorrow’s talent today” is a new work experience
collaboration between RR Donnelley in the U.K. and one of
its city law firm clients. In July, six 17-year old pupils from
La Sainte Union School in Camden spent two weeks at our
client’s London office, where 14 RR Donnelley employees are
based. During this time, lawyers and staff at each company
gave talks on commercial property law, marketing, creative
services and graduate recruitment opportunities. One of the
students commented, “Meeting someone from a minority
background, like myself, who is a barrister with a firm from
Cambridge has made me realize what can be achieved. I also
realized that you don’t have to be one personality type to
engage in law. I thought you had to be very reserved but you
can be outspoken and confident, too.”
■	RR Donnelley Pittsburgh now supports a national graphic arts
program and competition called Skills USA (http://skillsusa.org)
that has students, teachers and industry groups work together
to ensure America has a skilled workforce. The committee is led
by Heidelberg Engineering, and RR Donnelley is providing
support by lending subject matter experts to lead the prepress
component and to serve as judges in other areas of the
competition to be held in Louisville, Kentucky in 2015. As a
Skills USA participant, we have an opportunity to recruit
talented students interested in pursuing a career in the
graphic arts field as well as students in other technical fields
such as HVAC, Electronics, and IT, to name a few. In all,
there are over 80 technical areas of competition. This will
be a win-win as the educators’ primary goal is to provide their
students with the skills that they will need in a career, and
we will be providing insight into what knowledge, skills
and abilities are valued to perform a job in our company.
■ The RR Donnelley facility, in Streamwood, IL, was asked by
their local fire department if they would train all of their area
departments and educate them about our facility, structure,
our processes, the materials we use and what is involved with
a larger commercial facility so they are prepared to handle a
fire emergency in such a facility. We trained one day a week,
twice per day for a period of three weeks with 4-8 responders
in each group.
Health/Well-Being
■	RR Donnelley has installed fans in many warehouses,
including Bolingbrook and Aurora IL, and York PA, to improve
air circulation and make employees more comfortable in both
hot and cold weather. We also added new tips to the fans to
increase air flow.

a Smokerlyzer so they could see the effects of smoking on
their bodies. We also distributed leaflets on-site in an effort
to support smoking cessation.
■	At Plover, Wisconsin, we provided convenient, on-site annual
influenza vaccinations to employees.
■	In Chennai, India, we held general health checkups, eyecare
checkups, opportunities to make blood donations and dental
camps. More than 1,800 employees used the services, and
more than 350 employees donated blood. The team in
Trivandrum also collaborated with health experts to conduct
awareness sessions on sinusitis and musculoskeletal
disorders.
■	Across North America, all employees have access to
RRDConnect, our online provider of employee assistance
program services. RRDConnect offers life and wellness
coaching as well as self-paced tutorial programs designed
to assist with weight loss, walking programs, smoking
cessation and stress reduction. Each year, employees and
their families are invited to participate in any of several
challenge programs conducted through our “A Better You”
wellness program.
■	In the U.K., we offer employees the opportunity to participate
in a ‘Cycle to Work’ program, which is a U.K. Government-
backed initiative to enable employees to save on the cost of a
bike and cycling safety accessories for the purpose of cycling
to work.
■	Our Debrecen, Hungary site was named a non-smoking facility
in tandem with a company-sponsored smoking cessation
program available to all employees.
■	In Lodz, Poland we organized a picnic for employees with
families. During this event, people could walk in alkogoggles
to see how it changes their sight. Employees were also
offered opportunities to get a flu vaccination as well as
Hepatitis B and A type vaccinations.
■	The GTS Singapore facility promotes health and fitness by

“Today, REACH has become a movement. It is no longer the exclusive preserve of a small
sub-section of the larger employee base but a shared social conscience. It has become a
common vision that has broken the barriers of geographies, functions and cultures. Outreach
programs are on the agenda of our business leaders and they are leading by example –
inspiring our employees to do more and be more. Our Strategic Volunteering programs
resulted in over 10,000 volunteer hours being logged across the Global Outsourcing platform.
In 2015, we will be implementing structured programs in the areas of Health and Safety,
Community Outreach and the Environment and will be measuring impact at the macro and
micro levels.”

■	Partnering with local organizations, the REACH committees in
Colombo, Trivandrum, Manila and Chennai helped in educating,
creating awareness and inspiring individuals from
underprivileged backgrounds. These programs involved
providing select participants an insight into corporate careers,
creating awareness on the importance of education and
providing career counseling for individuals from rural
backgrounds.
■ The second edition of Project Bridge, REACH Chennai’s flagship
volunteering initiative, concluded in October 2014 with the
Master Builder Award. Over a nine-month period,
seven divisions worked on six projects, clocking in 4,700
volunteer hours by 502 employees. The award for the most
impactful project went to the CP-CCO division for Redux,
which focused on energy and water conservation and waste
management through awareness campaigns across all
facilities. Promotion of urban greening with Green Warriors
saw the distribution of free saplings and participation in a
landfill activity at a local park that received much
appreciation. Project Swasth (Sector Wide Approach to
Strengthening Health) from the Financial Print group
impacted the greatest number of beneficiaries through the
awareness and implementation of several initiatives aimed at
promoting a healthier lifestyle.
■	In Lodz, Poland, employees collected food and goods for
animals living in a Lodz pet shelter. During the cold winter
season we donated items such as blankets, toys, and more
than 170 kilos of dog and cat food.
■	In Chicago, IL, RR Donnelley employees volunteered at the
Feed My Starving Children program and helped to pack
87,264 meals, enough to feed 240 children for one year.

for critically ill children and donated them to area hospitals
throughout greater Chicago.
■	On Senior Chores Day, 104 RR Donnelley Warrenville, IL

help clean up yards for seniors and shut-ins.
■ The Special Education School of Luwan District, China,
became the base of volunteer activity for the RR Donnelley
Shanghai XTD and Bridge 8 office. Employees spent lunch
breaks playing with students who have moderate or severe
disabilities. The Shanghai, China, volunteer team members
earned the “willingness to help others” prize for their work
with migrants’ children in the Pudong District, helping them
to “explore the secrets of printing” and caring for the special
education school.
■	In Plover, Wisconsin, RR Donnelley employees donated school
supplies for the underprivileged.
■	The RR Donnelley Boston-Hyde Park facility collected food
goods for the local Food Pantry for the tenth consecutive
year. It was its largest contribution ever, with several hundred
pounds of food and food products delivered to the Pantry.
Additionally, the team conducted its tenth annual Toys for
Tots collection.
■	Since 2007, our employees from Krakow, Starachowice and
Warsaw Poland have participated in the Noble Box
(Szlachetna Paczka) charity action of Stowarzyszenie
WIOSNA (Spring Association), supporting poor families
before the holiday season. In 2014, employees supplied
seven families with food, cleaning agents and personal care
products, toys, clothes, etc.
■	In Krakow, Poland, employees organized a fair to sell their
hand-made products and sponsored more than 470 school
meals. They also supported a nearby orphanage by buying
necessities including basic medical equipment.
■ Twenty-eight volunteers from RR Donnelley Chennai, India,
worked with six NGOs to help them promote their work.
Volunteers visited facilities and helped them set up event
spaces and position their products. Another 30 general
volunteers helped with event logistics.
“The special leadership program that I was participating in gave me a great opportunity to get a better understanding of the business
environment and my leadership role. What I find most valuable is openness for initiatives to create operational improvements. I must
say that after these years, I feel like I really belong to this organization. I feel that employees are respected, encouraged to grow
together with the company and allowed to make a difference.”
– Alexandra Holoyda, RR Donnelley, Warsaw, Poland
“At RR Donnelley, we are free to be creative and encouraged to come up with alternatives, no matter how crazy they may sound. By
working together, we are able to take those crazy ideas and craft them into solutions that help our employees overcome obstacles or
approach a problem with a different perspective. It makes me feel valued and part of the team when I’m included in the process, and
almost counted on to come up with something, even when we think we’ve hit a dead end.”

■ RR Donnelley teams in New York have supported the ‘Big
Brothers Big Sisters’ (BBBS) Workplace Mentoring Program
for 20 years—and counting! BBBS is an educational,
vocational and cultural activity program that matches
volunteers from within the company with youths aged 12 to
17 from a local school.
■	In the U.K., RR Donnelley works with I CAN, a childrens’
communication charity who are experts in helping children
develop the speech, language and communication skills they
need to thrive in the 21st century world. Our employees
support I CAN through employee fundraising, volunteering and
pro-bono activities. During RR Donnelley’s Global Community
Connect Day, 20 volunteers participated in activities at I CAN’s
two specialist schools: Meath School and Dawn House.
■ Employees at PCA, an RR Donnelley company, were
encouraged to participate in Get Out Give, a two-month
long volunteer effort where multiple sites participate to give
back to the local communities. For a number of years, PCA
volunteers, have supported ‘Empty Bowls’, which is put on by
St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore. Participants in the
‘Empty Bowls’ event purchase tickets to taste soups
donated from some of Baltimore’s finest restaurants.
‘Basilibration’ is another event in which PCA associates have
participated as part of Get Out Give. This event helped
raise $20,000 for the Baltimore Basilica.
PCA associates have also organized blood drives to support
the American Red Cross. Its most successful volunteer in-plant
effort has been hosting a clothing and food drive. Over a
two-week period, employees bring in gently-used clothing
and food.
In 2014, almost a third of PCA’s employees donated to the
drive, finishing the campaign with 1,116 items. Three cars
were filled with those donated items and delivered to
Tabitha’s House in Fallston, Maryland. Tabitha’s House serves
low-income and at-risk families in neighboring Harford
County by providing basic needs.
■ Our employees in Dublin, Ireland collaborated with a hospice
for children with life-limiting conditions and residential care
for young adults with disabilities. The team has supported a
number of events at the hospice, and has worked with them
to develop and design communications and a direct mail
strategy.
■	The St. Charles, IL label facility, worked with Literacy
Volunteers Fox Valley to provide free, one-on-one literacy
tutoring to employees who want to improve their command of
the English language including reading, writing and speaking.
The volunteers met with employees one hour a week at the
plant for their one-on-one session. In addition, participants
developed true friendships that extend beyond the tutoring.
■	In Lodz, Poland, employees participated in a charity volleyball
tournament run by the “Slonie na balkonie” Foundation. This
foundation helps children with psychiatric problems. It works
to save lives and protect the health of children who are
victims or witnesses of violence, or have lost their families,
homes, or sense of security.
■ RR Donnelley Orlando, FL, commercial print employees worked
with Florida Hospital in their SHARES International program that
provides quality healthcare to needy children in other countries.
Focusing primarily on cleft lip and cleft palate surgery and
physical therapy, the SHARES team provides free surgical and
medical services to children born with facial and physical
deformities. The facility also donated over 200 backpacks to
the local chapter of the Central Florida Boys and Girls Club. These
backpacks were given to students and families who were in
need and who did not have the means to buy their own.

Operating with integrity and the highest ethical conduct is the cornerstone of RR Donnelley company values. Our Principles of Ethical
Business Conduct (PEBC) policy applies to everyone at RR Donnelley and governs all areas of professional conduct, ethics and
compliance. These policies are not some esoteric, dusty concepts on a shelf. They are very much a part of daily life at RR Donnelley,
present in a million choices and decisions we make each day. Integrity goes hand in glove with our bedrock of ethics. It is integrity
and depth of character that compels us to do the right thing. Our Principles of Ethical Business Conduct handbook addresses these
important areas:

■ Computer Systems: Our computer systems, including email,
must be secured and protected against damage, alteration,
theft, fraudulent manipulation, unauthorized access and
disclosure of confidential company or customer information.
■ Government Investigations: Our policy is to cooperate with

In order to promote a culture of adherence to our Principles of
Ethical Business Conduct and to prevent, detect and correct
illegal or unethical conduct, we have an Ethics and
Compliance Program comprised of these key elements:
The Board of Directors, primarily through its Governance, Responsibility Technology Committee is responsible for overseeing
implementation of the Program and compliance with the Principles of Ethical Business Conduct. Operational responsibility for the
Program has been assigned by the Board to our Ethics and Compliance Committee, comprised of 14 executives from all parts of
RR Donnelley who meet on a regular basis to monitor the Program. It remains, however, the responsibility of every officer, director
and employee of RR Donnelley to comply with the Program and policies.

employees to voice concerns about potential ethics and
compliance violations.
■ Corrective Action: We reduce negative effects, focus on
prevention and cooperate with government investigations.
■ Incentives and Discipline: We encourage ethical behavior and
discipline those who fail to comply, or who violate ethical
standards.
GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y
Being consistent is especially important when employees act
across borders and across cultures. Our ethics and compliance
policies apply wherever we operate, assuring behavior that
builds trust. We empower all employees to make a difference
and to offer solutions. A vital part of this process is an open flow
of communication.
Our Open Door Policy is among our oldest and most important
practices. We were one of the first companies to create one.
It rests in a shared belief that all employees should be able to
raise issues and speak their minds to make our company the
best it can be. The ‘open door’ also encourages us to treat one
another with respect and reminds us that we are united in the
same business goals, values and ethical standards.
Our determination to operate ethically applies everywhere we do
business, and is also a commitment to our stakeholders. It is
the foundation on which we build excellence throughout
the company.

environmental health safety
We have a comprehensive management system so we can
effectively control our Environmental Health Safety (EHS)
impacts worldwide. This system uses a model that matches
well‑accepted international management standards, such as ISO
and the principles of OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program.
RR Donnelley was named Company of the Year in the 2014
Gravure Management Excellence Awards presented by the Gravure
Association of the Americas. The company also received awards
in the employee safety, environmental sustainability and
employee development categories.
Our company has clearly defined EHS roles and responsibilities.
We empower teamwork on EHS issues by having open lines of
communication all the way from facilities to senior management.
Any RR Donnelley business unit can quickly deal with any EHS
issue and can just as quickly take advantage of new opportunities
to improve the environment, safety and well-being of our people.
Every level of our organization has EHS responsibilities.
Regional EHS teams give us strategic direction and improve
decision-making with issues relevant to our global operations.
We have a company EHS Policy that we make available to
the public in eight languages. It guides all of our internal
programs and practices, and states our commitment to:
“… continuously improve global EHS performance by utilizing
practices that protect employees.”
As a Fortune 500 company, we have all of the right tools,
procedures, and processes in place to manage safety
compliance. However, we go beyond simple compliance. We’ve
also created an environment in which every employee, every day,
looks out for his or her own safety as well as the safety of others.
This program and our employees’ dedication have allowed us to
earn a Recordable Case Rate that is 51 percent below the U.S.
print industry average. Even so, our goal remains zero injuries.
And this is not a goal on which we’re willing to compromise.
We also focus intently on employee health and well-being by
improving work environments and offering health events and
wellness coaching.
ENVIRONMENTAL
HEALTH SAFETY
RR DONNELLEY’S POLICY is to strive to continuously improve global
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) performance by utilizing practices that
protect employees and the environment, including reducing the quantity of
emissions, developing opportunities for recycling and pollution prevention, and
using paper, energy and other resources more efficiently. Customers are pursuing
these same kinds of goals and they are increasingly seeking to work in cooperation
with their key suppliers to improve sustainability and reduce costs.

GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y
We not only work to ensure that our employees leave work in the
same condition in which they arrived, but our goal is for
employees to leave the workplace with a stronger safety mindset
through the education provided in the workplace. We stress the
importance of prioritizing safety, even when not at work. Our
safety program includes continuous safety training for both their
professional and personal lives. But the true difference in our
employee safety program is the accountability of our employees.
Training at RR Donnelley goes far beyond safety. We recognize
career needs and provide ways for employees to learn what they
need in order to advance. For example, our leadership programs
help high-potential employees improve their leadership abilities.
Across our diverse business landscape, training is tailored to
improve employee skills and effectiveness.
Our EHS story is one of good citizenship, and good stewardship
of our people, the environment and all whom we touch.

RR Donnelley’s safety performance is well below the corresponding industry average, and
that is worth celebrating. Here’s why. Each year, the OSHA Recordable Case Rate for the
entire North America printing industry is calculated. This rate measures how often employees
in our industry are injured in accidents on the job. In 2014, our worldwide recordable rate was
51% below the industry’s average – reflecting the exceptional safety performance that our
employees continue to achieve. Safety is the first and most important measure of operational
excellence at RR Donnelley, so exceptional performance is worth celebrating.

ENVIRONMENT
■	Our San Bernardo, Chile, facility completed an audit to obtain
certification from the federal environmental agency as a
Clean Manufacturing Print plant.
■	Our San Juan del Rio, Mexico, plant earned the Clean Industry
Certificate given by the Federal Environmental Protection
Office, and achieved ISO 14001 certification.
Our Tlalnepantla facility successfully obtained the Clean
Industry Certificate in 2014.
■	Our Shanghai Information Technology Co., Ltd. opened at the
Jinshan Industrial Park. The Jinshan facility has the leading
Continuous Paper 4C Inkjet Digital Printing Production Line in
the world. As the eighth plant in RR Donnelley China, the Jinshan
Print on Demand (POD) plant is the starting point of a new
“publishing prior to printing” business model, thus minimizing
the amount of materials consumed and wastes produced.
■ In 2014, GPS Europe printing plants in Poland gained EU
Ecolabel certification for printed products – signifying low air
and water pollution during the paper production and printing
process, reduced environmental damage or risks related to
the use of hazardous chemicals, and increased recyclability.
■ More than half of the paper we used in Poland and Hungary
in Q4 2014 met the chain of custody standards of the
Forest Stewardship Council®
(FSC®
) or Programme for the
Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
■ Printing Control, an RR Donnelley company, was the first
commercial printer in King County, Washington to earn
EnviroStars’ prestigious five-star rating for their innovative
environmental programs. Printing Control has decreased their
production of hazardous waste from 372 pounds per month
in 2002 to almost zero.
■ Two RR Donnelley facilities in San Diego, CA are
implementing a new technology that uses battery storage to
reduce electrical demand peaks in the plant. The batteries
charged during periods of low plant demand will discharge
during periods of high plant demand, to reduce the amount
of energy supplied to the plant by the regional utility.
■ RR Donnelley Green Bay and De Pere, WI facilities seek
alternative materials and methods that will significantly
reduce the amount of volatile organic compound (VOC)
emissions into the environment. Through these efforts, the
plants were able to reduce the combined volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) generated during the manufacturing
process by 10% while volume of work grew by 11% in 2014.

■ PBM Graphics, an RR Donnelley company in Durham, NC has
developed a paper-based, environmentally responsible
alternative to petroleum-based gift, redemption, reward, and
loyalty cards called Ecko Card®
. These engineered and
laminated papers are developed specifically for unmatched
strength and rigidity, are curbside recyclable in many
communities, and are produced using Forest Stewardship

certified paper. As a result of their ongoing efforts,
the site received a special award from the Printing Industry of
the Carolinas for printing environmentally sound materials.
■ In August of 2014, our Shenzhen, China facility installed a
regenerative thermal oxidizer which is a state of the art air
pollution control device (see photo).
■ Regenerative thermal oxidizers, and similar equipment, are
consistent with our EHS Policy which includes our
commitment to:
Strive to continuously improve global Environmental, Health

RR Donnelley is pursuing energy efficiency programs involving
several different technologies that we are installing in our plants

electrical demand response programs to help reduce
consumption during peak consumption periods, such as during
extreme hot or cold weather events, to allow local utilities to
manage demand without brownouts or investment in costly
generation capacity.
We reuse, repair, repurpose and recycle our process materials
and by-products to limit what enters the waste stream. We work
with our customers and suppliers to make packaging
environmentally responsible. RR Donnelley also teams with
others to share and learn best practices in sustainability. These

across all of our worldwide operations. We focus on
four areas.

sustainability
Resource Efficiency
■ The new Knutsford, United Kingdom site powers its electricity
from 100% renewable sources.
■ Our U.K. facilities in Barnwood, Gateshead, Huntingdon,
Lancing, Leicester, Tewkesbury, Watford and Edinburgh have
been certified to the ISO 50001 Energy Management
System. The purpose of ISO 50001:2011 is to enable
organizations to establish the systems and processes
necessary to improve energy performance, including energy
efficiency, use and consumption. Implementation of this
International Standard is intended to lead to reductions in
greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental
impacts through the systematic management of energy.
The implementation of the standard also ensures we are
compliant with energy legislation – Carbon Reduction
Commitment Regulations (CRC) and the Energy Savings
Opportunity Scheme Regulations 2014 (ESOS).
■ The Gateshead, United Kingdom, facility has completed a
replacement program of fluorescent lighting with new
technology LED skytiles in the Mailroom, resulting in an
annual energy savings of 96,620 kWh of electricity.
■ The Krakow, Poland, facility is using a heat recovery system to
preheat the printing press dryers, reducing gas use by 20%
on one press. The plan is to implement the system on the
other presses.
■ RR Donnelley, Manchester, CT, The Manchester, CT plant
put an aggressive recycling program in place by using
specifically-labeled Gaylord containers throughout the plant.
The result was an increase in recycling of Plastic
(5,600+ pounds, paper (4,000+ pounds), metal and
chemicals. Manchester also saw a decrease in trash from
18,000 pounds in 2013 to 5,700 pounds in 2014.
On average, trash production per associate declined
from over 2 pounds (2013) to ¾ of a pound (2014);
a 63% improvement.
Waste Minimization
■ In Mexico, we have earned the Social Responsibility Badge
awarded by CEMEFI, the Mexican Center for Philanthropy,
four years in a row for our waste separation and recycling
activities. At our San Juan Del Rio, Mexico, plant we treat
and reuse wastewater to irrigate the landscaping at the
facility.
■ Five U.K. facilities within Global Document Solutions redirect all
waste that would have gone to a landfill to a materials recovery
facility, which further sorts out the waste, and, as part of an
‘Energy from Waste’ program, incinerates all unusable material
for the purpose of generating heat or electricity.
■ In Chile, we organized the STOP campaign to raise awareness
about the hazards of improper battery disposal. In 2014, our
efforts resulted in collecting more than 115 pounds (53 kg.) of
batteries for safe disposal.

■ In 2014, our Toronto, Canada facility continued to reduce
hazardous waste solvent by 201 drums of waste or about
41,205 liters (10,885 gallons).
■ Across Europe, all Language Solutions offices participate in the
paper and waste recycling program and make sure to minimize
the number of pages printed. The offices also use low-energy
lighting that is motion sensitive, which reduces electricity
usage by 20%.
■ RR Donnelley, Pittsburgh produced 112 printed jobs using
2,307,822 pounds of FSC paper in accordance with Chain of
Custody requirements. They also recycled 3,177,586 pounds
of paper; returning it to the mills in baled form to make into a
fine grade of printing paper.
■ RR Donnelley Streamwood, IL worked to recycle their laminate
trim waste that is used to make soles for gym shoes, thereby
avoiding the landfill.
■ Spangler Graphics, an RR Donnelley company worked with our
corrugate box supplier to focus on purchasing boxes made
from 100% recycled paper. They saved the equivalent of nearly
600 trees, 245,00 gallons of water, 140,000 KWH of
electricity, and 116 cubic yards of landfill space.
■ Tewell Warren, an RR Donnelley company, was among one
of three businesses in Denver to be nominated as a “Green
Business of the Year” by the Denver Metro Chamber of
Commerce; became the first printer to become “Certifiably
Green” in Colorado, and received a Bronze Award for
“Environmental Leadership” in Colorado.
Green Procurement
■	Over 185 worldwide print facilities are triple-certified to Forest
Stewardship Council®
(FSC®
), Sustainable Forestry Initiative®
(SFI®
), and Programme for the Endorsement of Forestry
Certification (PEFC) chain-of-custody standards. These
certifying authorities promote responsible forest management
and continuous improvement in standards and practices, and
allow our customers to produce their printed products on
certified paper bearing the respective logo.
■	In Poland and Hungary, more than half of the paper we used in
Q4 2014 met the chain of custody standards of the Forest
Stewardship Council (FSC) or Programme for the
Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). We are proud of
our commitment to responsible procurement, and highlight
this through our Regulated Product and Materials (RPM)
Safety Specifications, which outline the requirements for all
materials supplied to RR Donnelley. The full version of the
RPM may be reviewed at www.rrd.com/supplierinfo.

  • 3. GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y Today, RR Donnelley is in 14 different time zones, on five continents, in nearly 40 countries throughout the world, and is dedicated to operating responsibly in all of them. This Global Corporate Social Responsibility Report reflects our accomplishments in a variety of important areas, including Sustainability, Environment, Health, Safety, Diversity and Inclusion, Education and Training, and Community. The individual actions of our employees make a difference by considering the environment, by helping their fellow employees, and by being good citizens in their communities. We all contribute whenever we turn off unused lights, follow safety precautions, volunteer in our communities or solve customer problems while limiting negative effects on people and the environment. We take these actions not because they are in our job descriptions, but simply because we care, we want to create positive results in the world and we are given choices and opportunities to make a difference. When we look at all of our efforts combined, it reveals how much we value this ongoing commitment to operational and social responsibility. As you read the perspectives and stories told by RR Donnelley leaders and employees, we hope you will share in our appreciation for these important topics, and that it may spark ideas of your own to create opportunities for making a difference in your own homes, workplace, community and the world, we share. • 5. GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y SUSTAINABILITYOur values show every time we convert to energy-saving light fixtures at a facility, support a customer seeking to improve sustainability, or create inclusion programs that value every employee. Corporate responsibility requires an organization to define its values and continually work to strengthen its commitment to the highest ethical and environmental standards. We have a comprehensive commitment to sustainable environmental practices, diversity among our employees, health and safety initiatives, and to giving back to the communities around the world that we call home. Our values show every time we convert to energy-saving light fixtures at a facility, support a customer seeking to improve sustainability, or create inclusion programs that value every employee. To protect the environment, we create best practices that guide us to use our resources efficiently and help our supply chain adopt sustainable practices. We work to reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible in all of our facilities around the world. We’re working to make a difference in places like our Shenzhen, China facility, where we have a regenerative thermal oxidizer that reduces 99% of the volatile carbon emissions from our web printing process stack air. In addition to treating the process air, the regenerative thermal oxidizer runs on natural gas and is designed to be 92% thermally efficient. We have over 40 locations with similar pollution control devices. Organizations around the globe have recognized our work with awards and certifications that attest to our commitment to quality. In today’s competitive environment, maintaining acceptable levels of quality is a significant accomplishment that means achieving compliance with many different customer, legal and organizational requirements. Our commitment to safety remains our top priority. Today, hundreds of our global manufacturing facilities routinely work one million hours without a lost time injury – a remarkable achievement. Many of our locations have achieved VPP Star Status, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s recognition of exemplary performance. Our Recordable Case Rate is more than half of the nation’s print industry average, yet we will not rest until we reach zero injuries. We also firmly believe in creating workplace environments that truly value diversity and inclusion, provide training, and promote leadership. We value and support our employees’ impressive community volunteering activities. In this report, we share many examples of how our employees use creativity, innovation, inspiration and compassion as they try to help solve problems confronting the company and the communities in which we work. Impressive achievements like ours do not just materialize. Hard work and leadership from individuals and teams willing to take responsibility for making a difference in the world is what ultimately writes the chapters of RR Donnelley’s corporate and social responsibility record. At RR Donnelley, we are proud of our commitment to both the safety of our employees and to protecting the environment and we will continue to set and strive for the highest safety performance and for the lowest environmental impact on this world we share. Participants also hear from senior leaders through an executive roundtable speaker series. Our company leadership recognizes and embraces the belief that individuals who are valued for who they are and what they bring to work will strive to bring their best each day. There’s a reason that a 150-year-old company continues to survive under very challenging economic climates throughout its history. I believe this survival is due to the people that it attracts, and in turn the legacy they leave behind generationally. I have thrived here because people have believed in me and aligned my talent with work and teams where I can confidently make a difference.” – Matina Montes, RR Donnelley, Elgin, IL “RR Donnelley has been a part of my life for 29 years. This company gave me an opportunity to grow, expand my career and build relationships that are like family to me. • 21. GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y environmental health safety We have a comprehensive management system so we can effectively control our Environmental Health Safety (EHS) impacts worldwide. This system uses a model that matches well‑accepted international management standards, such as ISO and the principles of OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program. RR Donnelley was named Company of the Year in the 2014 Gravure Management Excellence Awards presented by the Gravure Association of the Americas. The company also received awards in the employee safety, environmental sustainability and employee development categories. Our company has clearly defined EHS roles and responsibilities. We empower teamwork on EHS issues by having open lines of communication all the way from facilities to senior management. Any RR Donnelley business unit can quickly deal with any EHS issue and can just as quickly take advantage of new opportunities to improve the environment, safety and well-being of our people. Every level of our organization has EHS responsibilities. Regional EHS teams give us strategic direction and improve decision-making with issues relevant to our global operations. We have a company EHS Policy that we make available to the public in eight languages. It guides all of our internal programs and practices, and states our commitment to: “… continuously improve global EHS performance by utilizing practices that protect employees.” As a Fortune 500 company, we have all of the right tools, procedures, and processes in place to manage safety compliance. However, we go beyond simple compliance. We’ve also created an environment in which every employee, every day, looks out for his or her own safety as well as the safety of others. This program and our employees’ dedication have allowed us to earn a Recordable Case Rate that is 51 percent below the U.S. print industry average. Even so, our goal remains zero injuries. And this is not a goal on which we’re willing to compromise. We also focus intently on employee health and well-being by improving work environments and offering health events and wellness coaching. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SAFETY RR DONNELLEY’S POLICY is to strive to continuously improve global Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) performance by utilizing practices that protect employees and the environment, including reducing the quantity of emissions, developing opportunities for recycling and pollution prevention, and using paper, energy and other resources more efficiently. Customers are pursuing these same kinds of goals and they are increasingly seeking to work in cooperation with their key suppliers to improve sustainability and reduce costs. 19

GLOBAL CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILIT Y environmental health safety 21 ENVIRONMENT ■ Our San Bernardo, Chile, facility completed an audit to obtain certification from the federal environmental agency as a Clean Manufacturing Print plant. ■ Our San Juan del Rio, Mexico, plant earned the Clean Industry Certificate given by the Federal Environmental Protection Office, and achieved ISO 14001 certification. Our Tlalnepantla facility successfully obtained the Clean Industry Certificate in 2014. ■ Our Shanghai Information Technology Co., Ltd. opened at the Jinshan Industrial Park. The Jinshan facility has the leading Continuous Paper 4C Inkjet Digital Printing Production Line in the world. As the eighth plant in RR Donnelley China, the Jinshan Print on Demand (POD) plant is the starting point of a new “publishing prior to printing” business model, thus minimizing the amount of materials consumed and wastes produced. ■ In 2014, GPS Europe printing plants in Poland gained EU Ecolabel certification for printed products – signifying low air and water pollution during the paper production and printing process, reduced environmental damage or risks related to the use of hazardous chemicals, and increased recyclability. ■ More than half of the paper we used in Poland and Hungary in Q4 2014 met the chain of custody standards of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® ) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). ■ Printing Control, an RR Donnelley company, was the first commercial printer in King County, Washington to earn EnviroStars’ prestigious five-star rating for their innovative environmental programs. Printing Control has decreased their production of hazardous waste from 372 pounds per month in 2002 to almost zero. ■ Two RR Donnelley facilities in San Diego, CA are implementing a new technology that uses battery storage to reduce electrical demand peaks in the plant. The batteries charged during periods of low plant demand will discharge during periods of high plant demand, to reduce the amount of energy supplied to the plant by the regional utility. ■ RR Donnelley Green Bay and De Pere, WI facilities seek alternative materials and methods that will significantly reduce the amount of volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions into the environment. Through these efforts, the plants were able to reduce the combined volatile organic compounds (VOCs) generated during the manufacturing process by 10% while volume of work grew by 11% in 2014.
