suburbs. There are 3 hotels from chains and a number of privatly
owned hotels.
Around Venlo there are also several hotels situated. Along the
A73 direction Nijmegen and the A67 direction Eindhoven.
The hotel accommodation ranges from basic to very luxureous
and the rates are in accordance with the country average.
Restaurants
A relative small city as Venlo has a lot to offer for hungry visitors.
A lot of the eateries have dishes which suite the many Germans
visiting Venlo. It is remarkable that Venlo has 2 restaurants which
are rewarded with a Michelin star.
Shopping centers
Venlo and Blerick have centers with a large variety of shops and
restaurants. In Venlo is the area around the Nolensplein very
popular by German shoppers, also because the parking garage
is situated under this square. You find here mainly smaller, more
specialized shops.

In the center of Venlo you also find the “Maaspoort” where the-
ater and music performances are given. Near the station you find
2 museums with permanent exhibitions of contemporary art and
local history.
Around Venlo
Outside the city you mainly see farmland and glasshouses. Lots
of glasshouses. Patches of wooded areas extent far into Ger-
many and you can make bicycle tours or walking tours which can

Venlo - in the Netherlands - is situated practically on the Dutch
/ German border and extends on both sides of the river Maas.
It is mainly known as an international logistic center, as a cen-
ter of extensive agricultural activities and as a home base for a
number of high-tech industries. It is a trade center for fruit and
vegatables. Venlo is a wellknown shopping center for German
neighbours - average 90.000 per week - who buy tabacco, wurst
and coffee.
Venlo is a city since the 14th century and has currently about
90.000 inhabitants.
The crossing of the A73 and the A67 highways, the river Maas
and the international airport in Weeze (Germany) have contrib-
uted to the development of the city. The extensive industrial ac-
tivity is concentrated in several industrial areas north and west
of the city.
As a large center of agricultural activity, Venlo organizes in 2012
the Floriade exhibition which is a world event where millions of
visitors are expected.
Venlo city is also nominated the most “green” town of the Neth-
erlands. You will notice that, when visiting the center or suburbs.
Only a few minutes walking from the city center along the border
of the Maas, you can find shepherd Johan with his flock of 250
sheep.
Venlo city and the suburbs - greater Venlo - consists of the sub-
urbs Blerick, Tegelen, Belfeld and Venlo itself. Blerick and Tegel-
en contain the most recent built residential areas with the appro-
priate facilities and shopping areas.
Accommodation
Venlo offers visitors about 1.400 beds in the center and the direct

take several days.
One of them is the so called Pieterpad walking tour which runs
from the northeast of Holland down to Maastricht via Venlo.
In the industrial areas you also find the companies from the lo-
gistic sector with their vast lorry parks, giant warehouses and
supporting industries.
North of the city, at the west bank of the Maas lies hidden in an
industrial area, the marina from Venlo. Several companies offer
boat tours on the Maas. These start in Venlo and end in Roer-
mond.
Around Venlo are several attractions and amusement parks situ-
ated.
In Sevenum you find “Toverland” (Miracle Land) which is open
365 days a year and suitable for children of all ages.
In Arcen are the Kasteeltuinen (Castle Gardens) with wonder full
gardens, restaurants and a party center.
More to the south - in Landgraaf - you can visit Mondo Verde, a
large park with themes from all over the world.
The only strawberry park “Aardbeienland” of the Netherlands can
be found in Horst, a small village north of Venlo.
Between Venlo and Roermond is the botanic garden: Cactus
Wereld (Cactus World) situated where you find rare and beautiful
plants from all over the world.
Shopping in Roermond, Duesseldorf, Maas-
tricht and Eindhoven
If shopping is your hobby, then Venlo is the city for you. When
you stay in one of the cosy hotels in Venlo center, it’s of course
easy to stroll through the center of Venlo. But it’s also easy to
reach the best shopping centers of this area in Roermond, Dues-
seldorf, Maastricht and Eindhoven. It only takes about 30 car
minutes to reach each of them from Venlo. Specially the Factory
Outlet Store in Roermond with over 60 shops - all with famous
brands and much lower prices then in the regular stores - is cer-
tainly worthwhile to visit.
