Fresno de Rodilla tunnel is part of the High Speed Railway from Madrid to País Vasco. This rail tunnel, which has a length of 5.250 m and twin tube type, is designed so that trains can run at a speed of 270 km/h with an aerodynamic section of 52 m2. The tunnel will be excavated in marly claystones and marls with gypsum alternancies. The maximum overburden is 100 m and the construction method used has been fully mechanized by using of EPB (Earth Pressure Balanced) with pre-cast concrete segments. Finally, in order to allow a safety evacuation in case of emergency, cross passages have been designed every 500 m.
