Another great book by the most loved and recognized Saint of subcontinent, Sultan Bahoo. He explains the grandeur of the book in these words, “Each point discussed in this book is the light of guidance and its every word reveals a secret from the Divine secrets. You should keep studying it day and night to become the Mystic blessed with union of Allah and immortal with Him.” Hence the book is the best source of guidance towards Allah for His true seekers as well as for the common people to know the real essence of religion Islam and follow it veritably.

8. PREFACE
Nur-ul-Huda (Khurd) [The Light of Divine Guidance (Brief)] is
one of the great Sufi books by Sultan Bahoo the king of all
Mystics. As in all his books, he has unveiled grand secrets of
Divinity in Nur-ul-Huda (Khurd) as well which are light of
guidance for the travellers of path to Allah.
It all is the blessing of my honourable spiritual guide Sultan-ul-
Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman to provide me
the opportunity of translating Sultan Bahoo‟s Persian books in
English. It is an unprecedented step in the field of Sufism to
convert such books containing Divine treasures in international
language for the guidance of seekers of Allah all over the world.
For translation of this treatise I have used the Persian text
deduced by my fellow disciple Ahsan Ali Sarwari Qadri who has
translated it in Urdu. To deduce perfect Persian text he used the
following scripts of Nur-ul-Huda (Khurd) provided by our
spiritual guide;

10. SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF
SULTAN BAHOO
Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sultan Bahoo was born on Thursday, 1st
of
Jumada ath-thani in 1039 AH (17 January, 1630 AD) at dawn,
in the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in Shorkot, District
Jhang, Pakistan (then India). He belonged to the Awan tribe of
the progeny of Ali ibn Abi Talib. Awans are Ali‟s children from
wives other than Fatima bint Mohammad. Sultan Bahoo‟s father
Bazayd Mohammad was a soldier by profession and a titleholder
in Shah Jahan‟s army. His mother, Bibi Rasti was a Saint. She
was spiritually informed of Sultan Bahoo‟s grandeur and
spiritual status before his birth and according to his status of
annihilation in Hoo1
, his name Bahoo (one with Hoo ) was
revealed to her.
Sultan Bahoo says:
اہند ؒو ُ
ابھ امدر ؒو ُ
ابھ انل
اہند و ُ
ھ اب دایمئ ؒو ُ
ابھ زاہکن
Explanation: Bahoo‟s mother named him Bahoo because Bahoo
has always remained with Hoo .
Sultan Bahoo was a Saint by birth. He remained engrossed in
heavenly experiences and doubtless revelations from his early
age. Sultan Bahoo gained his early mystic education from his
mother. A non-Muslim would immediately recite shahada and
accept Islam if his eyes fell upon the luminous face of Sultan
Bahoo, such was the intensity of Divine theophanies radiating
from him.
1
The Divine Essence
11. 10
Sultan Bahoo states in his books, “I searched for a spiritual
guide for thirty years but in vain”. It was because he already held
such elevated levels of Faqr where access of anyone is extremely
arduous. Sultan Bahoo relates one of his revelations in his books
that one day, engrossed in Allah‟s vision, he was wandering in
the suburbs of Shorkot when Ali ibn Abi Talib came and took
him to the Mohammadan Assembly where the People of Cloak,
the Rashidun Caliphs and Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani were also
present. There, Sultan Bahoo took oath of allegiance at the sacred
hand of Prophet Mohammad who entrusted him to Shaikh Abdul
Qadir Jilani for further spiritual guidance. That is why Sultan
Bahoo always refers Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani as his spiritual
guide in his books. He says, “When al-Ghawth al-Azam Shaikh
Abdul Qadir Jilani blessed me spiritually, I surpassed all the
spiritual levels from eternal beginning till the eternal end.”
Afterwards, following the orders of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani,
Sultan Bahoo took oath of allegiance at the hand of Shaikh
Abdul Rehman Jilani Dehlvi who entrusted the Divine Trust of
Faqr to Sultan Bahoo in just a single meeting.
The splendour of Sultan Bahoo is beyond anyone‟s speculation.
He is blessed with the extremities of Faqr and stationed at the
status of Sultan-ul-Faqr V. He says, “Since the eternal benevolence
has graced me with grandeur, Prophet Mohammad sall’Allahu
alayhi wa’alihi wasallam has ordered me to guide everyone,
Muslim or non-Muslim, fortunate or unfortunate, dead or alive
and he has titled me Mustafa Sani and Mujtaba Aakhir Zamani
with his pearl divulging tongue.” (Risala Roohi Sharif)
The spiritual order of Sultan Bahoo is Sarwari Qadri order.
Qadri order reaches Prophet Mohammad through Shaikh Abdul
Qadir Jilani. There are two offshoots of Qadri order; Zahidi
Qadri and Sarwari Qadri. Sultan Bahoo declares only Sarwari
Qadri order the proper and real Qadri order. He says:
12. 11
Qadri order has two offshoots; Sarwari Qadri and Zahidi
Qadri. Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide has perfect command
over contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. When he blesses the
seeker with the spiritual education and Divine guidance
through Ism-e-Allah Zaat, he grants him the status equal to
his own on the very first day. The seeker becomes indifferent
and independent of all needs, his attention remains focused
only on the Truth. Hence gold and soil become equal for him.
On the contrary, the follower of Zahidi Qadri order has to
devote at least twelve years to very hard mystic struggles, so
much so that his stomach remains empty. After twelve years
he becomes eligible to be present before Shaikh Abdul Qadir
Jilani and attains the status of a majdhub devotee while the
status of a Sarwari Qadri is that of a beloved devotee. (Kaleed-
ul-Tauheed Kalan)
He describes the status of Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide and
devotees in these words:
What is the initial level of Sarwari Qadri? It is that the perfect
Qadri spiritual guide drowns the true seeker of Allah in Divine
light of gnosis and grants him presence of Mohammadan
Assembly just by his glance, the contemplation of Ism-e-
Allah Zaat, the invocation of shahada or by his spiritual
attention. This is the first day lesson of Qadri followers. The
guide who neither knows this lesson nor takes his disciples
to the holy assembly is not the perfect Qadri spiritual guide.
His state of ecstasy is just his vain thought. The true Qadri
disciples are eternally drowned in the Divine light of gnosis
and union with Allah. (Kaleed-ul-Tauheed Kalan)
Sultan Bahoo himself holds this status. He says:
ااہتن ات ادتبا ز
ربل دل کی احرضل نم وبد قح ِاطبل ہک رہ
ابدخا كّوا ِزرو راسمن ات !ایب اطبل !ایب اطبل !ایب اطبل
13. 12
Meaning: For every true seeker of Allah I render my guidance. I
can take him from the initial stage of the spiritual journey to the
final and supreme level in just a moment. Come to me! Come to
me! Come to me O seeker of Allah! I can take you to Allah on
the very first day.
Sultan Bahoo could not avail the opportunity to receive formal
academic education because he was ever absorbed in the deep
ocean of Divine Unity, even then he has authored 140 books. All
of his books are in Persian except the collection of his poetry
which is in the form of Punjabi quatrains.
Sultan Bahoo‟s books are masterpiece of Divine knowledge. He
proclaims that if anyone could not find a spiritual guide, his
books will prove to be a medium for him to reach the perfect
Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide who will take him to Allah.
Sultan Bahoo‟s writing style is very simple and easy to
understand even for a less educated person. However, at some
places where he mentions the Divine secrets, his diction becomes
complicated. Nevertheless, his writings are so persuasive and
influential that they envelop the reader completely. If his books are
read respectfully after ablution, an ocean of spiritual beneficence
pours down to the reader. If the reader continues reading them
with complete faith and true intention, he will be guided towards
the perfect Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide who is the real spiritual
successor of Sultan Bahoo in the contemporary age.

14. Ain-ul-Arifeen (2021)
Sultan Bahoo has not used the conventional terms of Sufism or
Mysticism for his teachings, rather he calls them „Faqr‟. Faqr is
the spiritual way which leads to the Divine knowledge and vision
of Allah. In all his books, he lays emphasis on acquiring Faqr
under the guidance of a Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide. He
15. 14
declares the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat
the key to ultimate sanctity and purgation of soul after which the
soul is blessed with the vision of Allah and presence in the
Mohammadan Assembly, which are the most elevated spiritual
stations.
Sultan Bahoo says in his books that despite all his efforts he
could not find a truly capable seeker of Allah to whom he could
entrust the Divine Trust of Faqr for the future guidance of
seekers. Hence, on the 1st
of Jumada ath-thani in 1102 AH (1st
March, 1691 AD) he passed away without transferring the Trust
to anyone. Afterwards Sultan Bahoo entrusted it spiritually to
Syed Mohammad Abdullah Shah Madni Jilani. The shrine of
Sultan Bahoo is in Jhang, Pakistan. His death anniversary is held
on the first Thursday of Jumada ath-thani.2

16. TERMINOLOGY
ALIF
Alif (ا) is the first letter of Arabic alphabets that gives the sound
of „A‟ and refers to the name Allah ہ
ّّٰ
لل
َ
ا which also starts with
Alif.
ANNIHILATION
Annihilation is translated from Arabic word Fana (فنا).
Annihilation and immortality are two stages that form a
compound in spirituality, annihilation alone is incomplete. It is
related with purification of the innerself which prevents man
from travelling towards Allah. Annihilation has various stages
and continues according to the spiritual capacity until nothing
but Divine Essence adorns the man within. The three levels are
annihilation in the spiritual guide, the Holy Prophet and Allah.
APPREHENSIONS
It is used for the mystical term khatarat (رطخات) which are the
thoughts that become an obstacle in the spiritual way.
BELIEVER
The Arabic word Mumin (مومن) is translated as the believer or
faithful. A believer can be distinguished from a Muslim as a
Muslim accepts Islam verbally or just because he is born in a
Muslim family. He follows Islam only outwardly but the believer
reaches the essence of Islam following the spiritual path and
worships Allah while beholding Him with perfect faith.
Following verse explains the difference:
17. 16

)
Meaning: The bedouins say, “We have believed.” Say, “You
have not (yet) believed. Rather say, „We have accepted Islam.‟
And the belief has not yet gone into your inwards.” (49:14)
CONTEMPLATION
Mystically, contemplation refers to spiritual practice of Tasawur
(وصتر) which is to contemplate the name of Allah ہ
ّّٰ
لل
َ
ا in a
particular manner after taking oath of allegiance at the hand of
perfect spiritual guide. When the seeker elevates spiritually, his
contemplation also elevates and becomes stronger.
DAWAT
Dawat (دعوة) is a spiritual act to communicate with the souls of
shrines to seek their help and beneficence. Its knowledge is
called ilm-e-dawat.
DEGREES OF CERTAINTY
There are three degrees of certainty (yaqin یقین);
a) The knowledge of certainty is the first degree of certainty. It
is the certainty gained by listening or reading about any fact
or knowing about it from any other source. This degree is
mystically called ilm al-yaqin (الیقینعلم) and is considered the
weakest level of certainty.
b) The eye of certainty is the second degree of certainty
achieved by seeing or observing the fact whose knowledge
was gained, it is called ayn al-yaqin (الیقینعین).
18. 17
c) The truth of certainty is the final and strongest level of
certainty gained by personally experiencing the known and
observed fact and reaching the core of its truth. This level is
called haq al-yaqin (الیقینحق).
A simple example to explain the concept could be that knowing
the fact that “fire burns” is ilm al-yaqin. Witnessing something
being burnt is ayn al-yaqin. If one‟s finger is burnt and one
experiences how fire burns then this is haq al-yaqin. The same is
spirituality which is more experience than knowledge, though
without a doubt knowledge plays an important part.
DIVINE BEAUTY
For the Divine attribute al-Jamal (امجك) that includes all the
attributes of Allah related with His beneficence, mercy,
benevolence, compassion, kindness, forgiveness.
DIVINE COMMAND ‘BE! AND IT BECOMES’
„Be! And it becomes‟ is the command of Allah and is mentioned
several times in the Quran. Transliteration is Kun Fayakun ( کن
فیکون). The word or command spoken by Allah when He decides
upon a thing is Kun ( کن) which means „Be!‟ and „it becomes‟
immediately which is for the Quranic phrase Fayakun (فیکون).
DIVINE FAVOUR
For the Quranic term toufeeq (توفیق) meaning the help and
strength provided by Almighty Allah to the seeker to perform
any task, to cross any spiritual station or pass a trial.
19. 18
DIVINE LIGHT
Arabic Nur (نور), refers to the non-creation Divine power which
enables the seeker to have vision of Allah. The Unknowable and
Transcendent Divine Essence first of all manifested Himself in
the form of Nur and that was the Nur of Mohammad which is the
foundation of creation and is concealed in everything of the
cosmos. Whoever reaches the Nur in his inner being by
following the spiritual path, comes in light from darkness and
finds the Reality.
DIVINE LOVE OR LOVE FOR ALLAH
The Persian mystic term Ishq (عشق) is translated as the Divine
love or love of Allah. It is not the love of Allah amongst other
loves such as love of family, wealth, world, hereafter etc. rather
it is specific to that intense love for Allah which dominates and
removes the love for all other things except Him. Only the
Divine love is true love.
DIVINE MAJESTY
For the Divine attribute al-Jalal (جلال) which includes all the
attributes of Allah related with His wrath, power, magnificence,
might etc.
DIVINE UNION
For the Arabic term visal (وصال), becoming one with Allah after
annihilating in Him.
20. 19
DIVINE VISION
Beholding Allah with the inward eyes on spiritually reaching the
realm of Divinity. It is from the Quranic word Liqa (لقا) and in
Persian it is Deedar-e-Elahi (ایہٰلِرددیا).
ESOTERIC SELF
For the Arabic term Batin (باطن). The Mystics have revealed that
the spiritual or esoteric being of humans has seven layers or
parts;
1) The innerself (nafs نفس)
2) The inward (qalbقلب)
3) The soul (ruh روح)
4) The secret (sir’r ّرِس)
5) The hidden (khafi خفی)
6) The concealed (akhfa ّٰ
)اخفی
7) The core (Ana انا) which is the Divine Essence.
The spiritual journey of human starts from nafs and accomplishes
when he reaches Ana i.e. finds the Divine Essence within
himself. The esoteric self also includes all the spiritual realms of
Sufi cosmology.
FAKIR
Fakir (ریقف) comes from the Arabic word Faqr (فغر). He is the one
who travels the path of Faqr.
21. 20
FAQR
Faqr (فغر) is the path that leads the seeker of Allah to Divine
closeness and vision. Prophet Mohammad was blessed with it on
the night of Miraj and it is his Sunna. He said:
ْی
ّ
ِنِمُر
ۡ

َ
ف
ۡ
الَوۡیِر
ۡ
ظ
َ
فُر
ۡ
غ
َ
ف
ۡ
ل
َ
ا
Meaning: Faqr is my pride and Faqr is from me.
GNOSIS
The Arabic word marifa (معرفۃ) is translated as gnosis of Allah.
It is the vastest term of mysticism that gives a new meaning at
every spiritual level. Basically it refers to the knowledge and
recognition of Allah which keeps on increasing as the lover of
Allah progresses towards His closeness, hence reveals new
dimensions at every stage. It includes vision of Allah, knowledge
of His Essence and attributes, acquiring the attributes, annihilating
in Him and finally becoming one with the Essence having His
ultimate gnosis. Since Allah is Infinite, His marifa is also endless.
The invocation and contemplation of Allah‟s personal name ہ
ّّٰ
لل
َ
ا
are the foundation of marifa. It can be gained from the inner
sources like the intuitive and inspired knowledge as well as outer
sources like the spiritually effective Sufi teachings and the words
of the perfect spiritual guide.
HOO (وُھ)
Hoo (وُھ) is the Essence of Allah. It is used many times in the
Quran for Allah:
َوُھا
َّ
لِاَہّٰلِآاَلْیِذ
َّ
الُہ
ّّٰ
اللَوُھ
(
55
:
8<
)
22. 21
Meaning: He (Hoo وُھ) is Allah, besides Whom there is no God.
(59:22)
IMMORTAL WITH ALLAH
Baqa Billah ہ
ّّٰ
باللبقا
) ): At this station the seeker even crosses the
station of „annihilation in Allah‟. He gains immortality with
Allah on being attributed with His attributes. At this level he is
called „the Mystic immortal with Allah (Arif Billah ہ
ّّٰ
بالل عارف)‟
and is appointed on the throne of Divine guidance and
persuasion as the perfect spiritual guide.
INNERSELF
Innerself refers to the Arabic word nafs (نفس). The nafs has four
layers or levels. Each layer annihilates into the next upon its
purgation and the nafs elevates to next level. The first layer
incites man to commit sin and is called an-nafs al-ammarah
( ِنفس
ارهّام ) i.e. the inciting innerself. On purification, it elevates to
next layer which blames and repents on committing sin. It is called
an-nafs al-lawwamah (لوامہ ِنفس) i.e. the repenting innerself. The
third layer inspires before committing sin and is called an-nafs
al-mulhimma (ملہمہ ِنفس) i.e. the inspiring innerself. Whereas,
fourth layer is pure of sins and is at peace, it is called an-nafs al-
mutma’innah ( مطمئنہ ِنفس) i.e. the peaceful innerself.
INSPIRATION
Ilham (ااہلل): It descends upon the inward from the spiritual world
and can be either Divine or satanic. The type of inspiration
23. 22
depends upon the state of inward because if it is cleansed by the
invocation and contemplation of the Divine names (Ism-e-Allah
Zaat and Ism-e-Mohammad) then inspiration is pure. If inward is
strayed from the right path and engulfed in sensual desires then it
is from misleading sources.
INVOCATION
Invocation is translated from Arabic/Quranic term dhikr (ذؽر)
which means to remember Allah through repeated recitation of
His name. In Sarwari Qadri order, invocation is done with breaths
instead of tongue.
ISM-E-ALLAH ZAAT
Ism-e-Allah Zaat (ہ
ّّٰ
لل
َ
ا) is translated literally as „the personal
name of Allah‟. It represents the Essence and all the Divine
attributes and is His most powerful name. Its invocation and
contemplation is given by the perfect spiritual guide of Sarwari
Qadri order after a disciple pledges allegiance. It is the quickest
way of closeness to Allah because of its miraculous powers.
ISM-E-AZAM
Ism-e-Azam (اعظم ِاسم) literally means the greatest name of Allah
amongst His ninety nine beautiful names. It is the name which
contains all His powers and whose recitation solves all the
problems. Mystics confirm that Ism-e-Azam refers to Ism-e-Allah
Zaat ہ
ّّٰ
لل
َ
ا because no other name of Allah is more powerful than
the Divine name ہ
ّّٰ
لل
َ
ا.
24. 23
ISM-E-MOHAMMAD
It means the name „Mohammad‟ ( ) of the Holy Prophet which
is comprehensive of all his attributive names. In Sarwari Qadri
order its contemplation is given for the spiritual elevation of the
seekers.
JAMIAT
Jamiat (تیعمج) is a mystic term having multiple meanings. It may
refer to spiritual powers, stability, peace, accumulation or
satisfaction. It is the highest spiritual level whereby all the
preceding levels accumulate in the being of the seeker.
MAJDHUB
The Persian term Majdhub (ذجموب) is used for the one who
cannot tolerate the effects of theophanies and loses his senses.
Hence due to the lost and absorbed state, he cannot follow sharia
properly neither can progress on the spiritual journey.
The disciples of the perfect and accomplished spiritual guide of
Sarwari Qadri order never become majdhub.
MEDITATION
Meditation stands for the Arabic word muraqaba (مراقبہ).
Muraqaba comes from raqibun which means the watchful,
careful observer, vigilant, wakeful. Ar-Raqib is one of the
beautiful names of Allah which means the One Who is Ever
Watchful. Literally muraqaba means to watch over, to take care
of or to keep an eye. Mystically it is to prevent the inward from
everything other than Allah by focusing entire attention upon
Ism-e-Allah Zaat.
25. 24
MIRAJ
Arabic word Miraj (معراج) means ascension to Allah. The Holy
Prophet is blessed with the ultimate Miraj where he beheld Allah
directly without any veil and enjoyed absolute union. Through
his mediation, the true seekers of Allah are also blessed with
Miraj according to their respective levels.
MOHAMMADAN ASSEMBLY
One of the most elevated stages of Faqr is presence in the
Mohammadan Assembly which is beyond words. In fact it is the
truth of certainty and is gained by the invocation and
contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat provided it is granted by the
perfect and accomplished spiritual guide. In his writings Sultan
Bahoo condemns those who do not believe in eternal existence
of Prophet Mohammad.
MYSTIC
Mystic, for the Arabic word Arif (عارف), is the one who beholds,
knows and remains with Allah and has attained presence in the
Mohammadan Assembly.
OATH OF ALLEGIANCE
Oath of allegiance refers to mystic term al-bayah (بیعت). When a
person takes al-bayah to the spiritual guide, he becomes disciple
and hands over himself to his spiritual guide in exchange of
spiritual guidance. This, in fact, is a pact between Allah and His
slave through the medium of spiritual guide. It eternally bonds
the spiritual guide with the disciple.
26. 25
OBSESSION
In Arabic khurtum ؼرطوم
) ) which literally means the intoxicating
wine of grapes but in Faqr it is a thought or belief against sharia,
mysticism or Faqr which occupies the mind in such a way that
terminates all the moral and spiritual values. Sharia and Faqr
have their respective principles which take the seeker to
destination. If anything against these principles dominates a
person it is called „obsession‟.
ONENESS OF ALLAH
Refers to the basic pillar of Islam Tauheed (توحید). Believing in
it is the prerequisite to enter Islam. The shahada „There is no God
but Allah‟ is not only the verbal proclamation of Oneness of
Allah but a believer‟s whole life revolves around it. Its
profundity is only perceived by the Mystics, that is why the
Holy Prophet said:
َہّٰلِآاَل َنْو

Meaning: There are many who recite shahada “There is no God
but Allah, Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah” verbally but
only a few say it sincerely.
For the Mystics Oneness means that only Allah exists and none
else. They are annihilated in Oneness to become one with Him
and see Oneness of Allah everywhere.
PERSUASION
Talqeen نیقلت
) ): The exoteric scholars guide people through
religious education, discussions and arguments. However in Faqr
the perfect spiritual guide enlightens and enlivens the inward of
the seeker by his spiritual glance in accordance to the Sunna of
the Holy Prophet and this is called „persuasion‟. Perfect spiritual
27. 26
guide purifies the seekers by his spiritual glance and guides
towards straight path by persuasion as well as with exhortation.
Difference between education and persuasion is that the former is
imparted usually through books and lectures while the latter is to
inspire the Divine knowledge into the inward. Both education and
persuasion to a seeker are responsibilities of the perfect spiritual
guide.
PRESENCE
„Divine presence‟ is translation of mystic term Huzoori (حضوری).
It is the presence of soul and inward of the seeker before Allah
specifically during prayers and generally all the time. Divine
presence is gained by the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-
Allah Zaat.
QUDSI HADITH
Words of Allah stated by the Holy Prophet.
REFLECTION
Refers to the mystic term fikr (رکف). It is the power of thought and
cognition which is one of the means to obtain the gnosis of
Allah.
SATANIC WHISPERER
Satanic whisperer (khannas اس ّ
ن
َ
ن
خ) is a hidden attacker as
mentioned in sura an-Nas. It refers to Satan in the form of men
or jinn who whisper evil suggestions in the inward of seeker of
Allah.
28. 27
SEPARATION AND ISOLATION
The Arabic mystic term tajrid (تجرید) is referred to as
„separation‟. This mystic level is gained after complete inner
detachment from everyone other than Allah.
The Arabic mystic term tafrid (تعرید) is referred to as „isolation‟.
This mystic level is attained by negating one‟s own self. Tajrid
and tafrid are two basic levels before reaching the level of
Tauheed i.e. Oneness.
SHARIA
Sharia (شریعۃ) is the set of Islamic laws derived from the
religious percepts of Islam particularly the Quran and Hadith.
SPIRITUAL ATTENTION
Refers to the mystic term tawajjuh (توجہ) i.e. the powerful attention
of spiritual guide towards his disciples, through which he
cleanses their inwards, solves their inner problems, teaches them
wisdom and elevates them spiritually by making them experience
different spiritual states.
SPIRITUAL FRENZY
The Persian mystic term masti (یتسم) is translated as the spiritual
frenzy. It is the state of soul when it is deeply immersed in the
intense love of Beloved by the invocation and contemplation of
Ism-e-Allah Zaat or on beholding the Beloved. The lover
remembers none but the Beloved.
29. 28
SPIRITUAL GUIDE
Spiritual guide is English term for the Arabic word Murshid
(مرشد). Murshid is Quranic term and is also one of the attributive
names of Allah. Murshid is not only the spiritual guide of the
seekers of Allah but also their spiritual doctor who treats their
inner diseases and trains them inwardly as well as outwardly as a
spiritual instructor. No one has ever reached Allah without the
guidance of a perfect Murshid.
SPIRITUAL SIGHT/GLANCE
Persian word nazar (رظن) is translated as the spiritual sight while
the Sufi term nigah ( اگن
ہ ) as the spiritual glance. It is specific for
the effective sight and glance of the perfect spiritual guide with
which he cleanses and purifies the soul and inward of his
disciples as well as imparts the inner knowledge and elevates
them spiritually. It is not bounded by time and space. If the spiritual
guide is perfect, his sight can affect his disciples wherever they are.
SPIRITUAL STATE
Refers to mystic term haal (حال), (plural ahwal), the esoteric
states temporarily experienced by the seeker due to the attention
of spiritual guide or upon contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat.
SPIRITUAL STATE OF CONTRACTION
Spiritual contraction is translated from the Arabic word qabd
(قبض). It is the state of soul which results from the theophany of
Allah‟s majestic name Al-Qabid (القابض) meaning „The Constrictor‟.
When the seeker experiences this state, his inward and soul are
firmly gripped and the wrathful effects of the theophanies burn a
30. 29
veil between him and Allah. This state is followed by the state of
spiritual expansion.
SPIRITUAL STATE OF EXPANSION
Spiritual expansion is translated from the Arabic word bast
(بسط). It is the state of soul which results from the theophany of
Allah‟s beautiful name Al-Basit (الباسط) meaning „The Expander‟.
When the seeker experiences this state, his soul is engulfed with
ineffable joy.
SPIRITUAL STATES OF INTOXICATION AND SOBRIETY
Spiritual intoxication is translated from mystic term sukr (سؾر). It
is the state of absence of self-awareness brought about through a
powerful spiritual influence such as immersion in the invocation
of Allah, attention of the perfect spiritual guide, intense emotions
of love for the Beloved.
Literally, sobriety is the translation for Arabic word sahw ( صح
و ).
Mystically, it is the state of soul experienced on returning from
the state of spiritual intoxication. It is the vigilant state in which
the seeker consciously understands and cognates whatever he
experienced and gained during the state of spiritual intoxication.
STATION OF NO STATION
Refers to the Persian term La-Makan (لامکان) where nothing but
Allah exists.
STATIONS OR LEVELS OF SPIRITUALITY
The four stations or levels are:
31. 30
STATION OF SHARIA: Station of sharia (شریعۃ) is in the
physical world from where the seeker‟s soul starts its journey
following the Islamic law purely for the sake of Allah and with
the special help of the spiritual guide who develops the seeker‟s
insight.
STATION OF MYSTICISM: The second station of soul's
ascension is called tariqa (طریقۃ) and it is in the angelic realm.
The soul is purified by the perfect spiritual guide and travels
towards the next station.
STATION OF REALITY: It is the third station in ascending
order of the soul‟s journey of Faqr after being purified and
covering the preceding two stations, sharia and mysticism, by the
guidance of perfect spiritual guide. It is in the realm of power
and is called haqiqa (حقیقۃ).
STATION OF GNOSIS: It is the fourth station of soul‟s
ascension and is called marifa (معرفۃ). This station is in the realm
of Divinity, the true homeland of the soul from where it
progresses towards Divine Unity by the total attention of the
spiritual guide.
The Holy Prophet said about these four levels, “My words are
sharia, my actions are mysticism (tariqa), my inward states are
reality (haqiqa) and my secrets are the gnosis (marifa).”
TRUST UPON ALLAH
Arabic word Tawakkal (توکل) is translated as trust upon Allah.
Tawakkal is specific for Allah. It is to trust only upon Allah in all
matters and in all states.
32. 31
UNVEILING
Arabic kashf (کشف), manifestation of the hidden upon the seeker.
WAHAM
Waham (وھم) is a mystic term which refers to the spiritual
communication or conversation with Allah in the esoteric self
whereby the seeker is truly guided by Allah in different matters.

Meaning: All praises are for Allah the Lord of worlds. Blessings

Progeny, Companions and the People of Cloak.
In this book I have discussed a few stations related to unveiling,
miracles, spiritual ranks, verifications, observations, theophanies
of Divine Essence, attributes and Oneness. It also discusses the
initial, middle and final levels of a Fakir which correspond to
purification of the innerself (an-nafs) that grants the knowledge
of certainty, purgation of the inward that raises to the level of
eye of certainty, enlightenment of the soul that elevates to the
truth of certainty, ultimately the Fakir is annihilated in Allah on
the enlightenment of secret (sir,r the inner part) and becomes
immortal with Him. These are the secrets of chosen ones. In this
book I have also discussed the states of inspiration, waham,
reasoning, invocation, reflection, closeness and union with
Allah, spiritual frenzy, spiritual states, Divine presence and
accountability along with all the major and minor, higher and
lower levels. I have also warned about the deceits, polytheism,
infidelity, sensual apprehensions and satanic evils which a seeker
may encounter during the spiritual states of contraction,
34. 33
expansion, absorption, observation, amazement, admonishment,
passion, dawat and other stations of the spiritual path. These may
turn the seeker a majdhub. A seeker attains Divine union after
crossing the stations of sharia, mysticism (tariqa), reality
(haqiqa) and gnosis (marifa). He also has to cross the states of
intoxication and sobriety. The spiritual flight through the
medium of Ism-e-Allah Zaat which takes to the stations of
annihilation in Allah, annihilation in the Holy Prophet,
annihilation in Hoo, annihilation in Faqr and annihilation in the
spiritual guide is also discussed in this book along with the facts
about the spiritual guide, seeker, disciple, contemplation and
authority. All these are discussed in compliance to the verses of
Quran, Hadiths and sacred sharia which is the Mohammadan
way. Each fact is verified and there is no lie or disparity in it.
Bahoo, the writer of the book, has always been with Hoo at the
station of no station and brings out pearls of realities from there
like a diver as he is the knower of Divine secrets and knowledge.
He is the son of Mohammad Bazayd and belongs to the Awan
tribe in the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb who is a just ruler and
shelter for his subject as well as a man of inward, ascetic and a
worshipper. This book has been titled Nur-ul-Huda Khurd.

This book is meant to guide the travellers of the spiritual path so
that they may not be misled or commit mistakes. If the esoteric
self did not have the proof of the metaphorical presence of the
Holy Prophet (in every era), all the travellers of spiritual path
would have turned infidel. The Holy Prophet said:

This book is a touchstone for the scholars, Fakirs, Dervishes,
Shaikhs, perfect and imperfect spiritual guides as well as strong
and weak seekers. It describes about each of them separately.
O man of Divine favour! May Truth be your companion. You
must know that there are two types of Fakirs. One are men of
struggles and other are men of authority. Man of struggle is the
38. 37
one who stays awake at night for devotions and keeps fasts in the
day. If his struggles do not reveal upon him the secrets of
Divinity day by day, grant him observation of Hoo at the station
of no station, bless him with the company of souls of all the
Prophets, Sufis, Saints, true believers and Muslims neither
ennoble him with ranks of Ghawth and Qutb elevating him to
high spiritual levels then such struggles are just a brigand. It is
confirmed that the seeker‟s struggles are for the sake of earning
respect and honour and he is wandering in the jungle of
depravity. Listen O ascetic! You are toiling to get a place in
paradise but remember that by excessive devotions the innerself
becomes haughtier. The Fakir annihilated in Allah must have
two things; firstly closeness and union of Allah, secondly the
power to conquer the souls by reciting dawat. Neither a Fakir has
any desires nor does he fear from anyone.

39. 38
Secondly, Fakir who is man of authority is the one who has the
grandeur that when he gives the Divine command „Be‟ to
anything, it immediately becomes i.e. whatever he says is done
by the grace of Allah. The Holy Prophet said:

ُ
ک
﴾﴿
(
88:5<
)
Meaning: Every moment, His glory manifests anew. (55:29)
Such is their glory! A single word of man of authority Fakir is
far better than forty days seclusion and mystic struggle. The
perfect and accomplished spiritual guide is the Mystic who is
annihilated in Allah and immortal with Him. He may keep the
seeker of Allah involved in mystic endeavours for years or may
bless him with Divine union in a blink of an eye if decides to
bestow the seeker with his beneficence and grace. Whosoever he
blesses with grace, grants him a status equal to his own with just
a single glance. Listen! The Divine falcons can never stay with
flies and hens. Mystic endeavours are useful only if they result in
spiritual observations otherwise are useless. True mystic
endeavour is that done by the order and permission of the
spiritual guide. It removes every thought other than Allah and
fulfils all the desires. Hence for the men of Allah eating is like an
endeavour and sleeping means engrossing in the state of Divine
presence which blesses them with spiritual observations.
Endeavours are of two kinds: one is for the annihilation of
innerself while the other is for the sake of earning name and
fame. The second kind is aimed at inclining the creation towards
oneself and is full of desires of the innerself. Such people have
frenzy of physical beauty, verbosity, worldly love, music and
40. 39
singing. They are beardless and show off their craziness
wandering all around barefooted with bare head and torn clothes
crying in front of everyone. Usually they drink wine and
renounce the salat. All these are signs of imperfect spiritual
guide and seeker. True seeker of Allah must have these qualities;
he should be a hafiz of Quran, accomplished in virtuosity, highly
courageous, conversant in all kinds of knowledge and must be a
man of wisdom otherwise it is not at all difficult to turn crazy
thousands of ignorant by a single glance. A seeker of knowledge
cannot be considered a seeker of Allah unless he is tested on
these bases and if he fulfils these conditions then it is better for
him than all his matters. Hadiths:

Sunna and the actual straight path. Unless the seeker observes
the Mohammadan Assembly, his faith in it is not established.

If one serves the immortal Mystic Fakir for seven days with true
faith in him then it is better than the devotions of seventy years.
It is because one acquires two stations from the Fakir; station of
true devotion for which man is created and the station of Divine
gnosis. My words are based on the Quran while the words of
ignorant and infidels are satanic. Know that the seeker of
knowledge remains imprisoned by his knowledge even if he is an
excellent exegete. Satan was not an ignorant. The scholar who
acts upon his knowledge never turns evil.
The Arabic word for knowledge is transliterated as Ilm which
has three alphabets. Arabic word for clemency is transliterated as
Hlm which also has three alphabets. Similarly the transliterated
word for „act‟ is Aml which has three alphabets as well. These
nine alphabets bless the existence with praiseworthy attributes
and enlighten the seeker with the light of faith. This way of
Mohammadan Faqr never opens for a seeker without the Fakir
having all praiseworthy attributes. Hadith:

When a seeker of Allah becomes one with Him, duality ends and

There are six kinds of Fakirs;
1- The Fakir who is man of favour as the verse says:

2- The Fakir who is man of mysticism
3- The Fakir who is man of verification
4- The pseudo fakir
5- The so-called fakir who creates discrimination
6- The veritable Fakir who is the Sultan of Faqr
No one knows the reality of veritable Fakirs except the Holy
Prophet. Whosoever reaches their reality, it is only by their
company and beneficence. One who goes against them remains
worried in both the worlds. The grandeur of Fakir in both the
worlds is like a gem in ring. The reality of Fakir can only be
perceived by the spiritually enlightened ones not by the inward
blinds. Hadith:

Explanation: Inward is the greatest Kaaba, vacant it from the
idols (of worldly love and wishes). It is the sacred home of
Allah, do not make it an idol shop.
You must know that many people claim to be inward invokers.
They consider their physical heart as their inward and shake it up
and down while holding breath. They claim it invocation of
holding breath but they are wrong. Such invocation is useless
even if the heart starts shaking and along with it every organ
rather each and every cell of the body loudly invokes the name
of Allah. This is not the inward invocation and the shaking is due
to the effect of invocation. Even if it continues forever, it will not
grant spiritual observations and the invoker will remain
unaccomplished. Recognizing the inward is not easy. Inward is a
great kingdom which has observations of Divine secrets. These
secrets cannot be gained unless the inward is occupied with love
and passion for Allah and the seeker beholds Him in it as the
Holy Prophet said:

If the invocation does not grant gnosis of Divine union, inner

observation of theophanies of Divine Essence and presence, it
cannot be called inward invocation. Moreover it must make the
invoker hear the inspiration of:

It should also take the invoker to Allah crossing ten lakh seventy
seven thousand stations which all are present in the inward rather
it is vaster than the fourteen spheres. The inward invocation
bestows the treasures of Divine lights and makes the physical
and spiritual sight one and the same.
نت بسک از وبد اطتع را قلخ
وبد اطتع نت رتک را اعرافم
Explanation: Common people perform devotions by their
physical body while the Mystics‟ devotion is to relinquish their
physical existence.
As outward devotions are performed by physical organs hence
they do not affect the inward. O weakling! Make efforts to rise to
the status of a strong man. Who is a weakling and who is a
strong man? Understand that weakling is the one who enters the
arena of mystic endeavours with all weapons and fights with the
enemies of Allah that is Satan and innerself. Whereas the latter
kills them by the power of inward with one strike of the sword of
Oneness without indulging in endeavours hence becomes free of
the fight. No doubt perseverance is better than miracles and high
ranks. People often say that melody enhances the inward
invocation. They are liars who do not seek the Truth. Their
inward is seized and deprived of gnosis and their desire is
unrighteous. They are heretics who are away from Allah, neither
they have any beginning nor end. This is because music, songs
and dance are against the sacred Mohammadan sharia. The
53. 52
immortal Mystic who is a man of inward is so much engrossed in
the unveiled observation of Allah that he does not like any voice
even if it is as sweet as the voice of Prophet David (Dawood).
Music is an outward thing while inward is related to the esoteric
self. Music is infidelity because it begun as a ritual of infidels
who sing in front of idols. Music finally leads to Antichrist.
وہا و سفن رس تسہ دتل رب رسود رگ
روا دارد دخا ٰیک ربدار ای را وہا انی
Explanation: If you wish to listen to music then it is just the
desire of your innerself. O brother! How can such desires be
justified in the court of Allah.
Keep in mind that the compassion of Allah showers while
reciting the Quran, invocation of Allah‟s name, calling azan,
offering salat and keeping fast. On the contrary, curse of Allah
descends while listening to music, committing heresy, infidelity,
adultery, drinking wine, gambling and other forbidden acts.
Company of cursed ones never suits to the people of compassion.
Whatever I say is not out of jealousy or malice rather after
calculations and according to the Mohammadan sharia. Hadith:

Meaning: One who abstains from saying the truth is a dumb Satan.
When an admirer of physical beauty is engaged in watching it,
he is deprived of beholding the Divine beauty and its union. He
is far from the station of truth of certainty and is still imperfect
and unaccomplished because he is indulged in self-conceit and
desires of innerself. Which is the way to enter the kingdom of
inward? Who is the guide on this way? Firstly it is the medium
of Ism-e-Allah Zaat, secondly the sight of spiritual guide who is
the immortal Mystic. By the contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat
and the sight of spiritual guide who is annihilated in Allah,
54. 53
nothing remains hidden from the seeker whether the levels of
acquiring Divine attributes or the stations of closeness to the
Essence. Who is an immortal Mystic i.e. what do we mean by
the perfect spiritual guide? He is the one who prevents the seeker
from disobeying Allah, esoterically as well as exoterically.

Everything is under his authority. Thus the man of inward does

Holding the breath while invocation is a ritual of infidels, one

inward invocation of Allah. The seekers of world are wretched,
they must not be trusted. It is established and verified in their
way that keeping supererogatory fasts is just saving bread,
offering supererogatory salat is the job of widows and going for
hajj is like sight-seeing while job of men is to control the inward.
My reply to them is that they have no inward. They are
wretched, oblivious and embarrassed. Controlling the inward is
very tough, keeping supererogatory fasts purify the soul, offering
supererogatory salat pleases Allah and going for hajj is safety of
faith. Allah says:

Explanation: Let your being drown and conceal in the Divine
name just like the „‟ا (Alif) has been concealed in Bism بسم. [بسم
Bism is actually باسم „Ba Ism‟ which means „with the name of‟
but while writingہ
ّّٰ
اللبسم (Bismillah which means with the name of
Allah) Alif becomes silent or it gets concealed].
Allah says:

Meaning: Allah (Ism-e-Allah Zaat) is the Guardian of the
believers. He brings them out of darkness and takes them
towards the light. (2:257)
Hence light of the believer reaches Divine light. Qudsi Hadith:

Explanation: The lovers of Allah are immersed in Oneness at the
station of no station. They do not need to be a bookworm to acquire
sagacity.
Immersion in Divinity is of three types; first is like the
chandelier which projects the shadows of pictures revolving
around it, second is immersion in exact Beauty and third is
eternal immersion in the Essence after being annihilated in Him.
To cover this way of inward one must be steadfast and his eyes
must be fixed upon the Divine vision. The physical Kaaba made
of soil and water was constructed by Prophet Abraham and his
son while the Kaaba of inward is created by Allah Himself. The
physical Kaaba is meant to circumambulate the Kaaba of inward
that is why the physical Kaaba came to welcome Rabia of Basra.

Explanation: Inward is a greater Kaaba than the physical one. It
circumambulates three hundred times around the people of
inward.
The men of inward get guidance about their worldly and religious
matters through three sources; waham, inspiration and attention.
You must know that there are two lakh seventy thousand rather
infinite knots around the inward of man which incur loss. Seventy
thousand knots are of greed and sensual desires, seventy thousand
of jealousy and arrogance while seventy thousand knots are of
conceit and pretence. These knots can neither be broken by
knowledge, mystic endeavours, laws of fiqh, recitals and litanies
nor by recitation of Quran, salats, fasts, hajj or zakat. Its only
remedy is invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and powerful sight of
the perfect spiritual guide who is an immortal Mystic. Allah

Meaning: So he whom Allah intends to give guidance (by His
bounty) He broadens his breast for Islam, and he for whom He
wills persistence in error (which he has purchased) He tightens
his breast with (such a) fierce constriction as if he were ascending
up hard into the sky. In the same way Allah sends torment (of
disgrace) upon those who do not come to believe. And this (Islam)
is the straight path of your Lord. (6:126-127)
