qualifications
CIPD Level 5 Diploma in Learning and
Development
This is the full qualification at this level. You’ll
cover a wide range of LD subjects giving
you an extensive breadth of LD knowledge
and skills.
It takes around 18 months to complete and
leads to Associate professional membership
of the CIPD.
To gain, you must successfully complete all
the mandatory units plus two optional units.
CIPD Level 5 Certificate in Learning and

8. How to successfully achieve
your qualification
• Each unit is eight weeks long, including one
study week and one assessment week.
• No exams at any stage – each unit is
completed before you move on to the next
one.
• Each assessment is one of three types (see
right) and is a pass or fail, with one chance
to resubmit.
• Each unit contributes six credits towards the
QCF for the Certificate and Diploma.
• Each unit takes 60 learning hours to
complete, including social participation and
the assessment.
All assessments will fall under three types and
are submitted and marked through the virtual
campus:
• Project: Learners work towards producing
one digital project. This is submitted and
marked.
• Portfolio: Learners submit several digital
artefacts over the course of the unit.
• Event: Learners work towards, carry out,
then reflect on a real-world action. Learners
submit evidence of the preparation, the
actual event and reflection, with expert
witness testimonial.
You will also be required to complete the
mandatory unit ‘Future of Learning’.
To gain the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Level Certificate or Diploma in Learning and Development
through the online route with CIPD Training/Home Learning College, you must successfully
complete all programme units.
For the Certificate, this is the five mandatory units. For the Diploma, this is the
five mandatory units and two optional units.
