2. In order to create a successful
music magazine I have created a
music magazine questionnaire and
have given it to hundred random
people , both male and female
between the ages range of sixteen
to twenty four year olds, to get a
firm background knowledge on what
people would like to see in my
magazine , so it would appeal to
them .In this PowerPoint I will be
analysing the results of the
questionnaire and then use the
information collected to create a
brief flat plan on my music
magazine.

Daily Weekly Monthly Only if

Question 1 analysis - First of all I wanted to find out how many times people read magazines
over a certain time period. The main categories where “daily, weekly, and monthly”, however I
also but the “only if there free” category because many people just skim through a magazine and
only read it if they find a article interesting and will not really bother buying one, just a quick
glance in the shop and they have all the information they need. Judging from the answers given,
most people prefer to read magazines monthly because there is more things to read about on
what happened in the past thirty days rather then in the last seven days , also they thought that
it was a bigger and better value for money. The older generation who are in there mid twenties
,read magazines daily to get the latest news on the go and because they are most likely have
jobs therefore earn money , which gives them more disposable income allowing them to
purchase a new magazine daily .

Question 2 analysis- This was one of the main questions , as it determined which genre I
based my music magazine on and all the information inside that related to it . The most
chosen category was “hip-hop” with thirty five votes compared to rock and pop with only ten
votes and soul, classical and jazz in last place with no votes. When I asked people why they
chose hip-hop ,they said it’s the only music genre that relates to them and they like the
upbeat rhythm to the music as it reflects the young generation of today , as a result I now
know that my music magazine with be based on the hip-hop genre

Question 3 analysis- Font type “1” was the most popular and so I will be using it as the
font for my masthead , people chose the first option because is was three-dimensional and
eye catching , so the first thing the reader will see the masthead and it is a cleaver form
of instant branding . In second place was font type”2” because it was bold and big and so
caught the attention of potential buyers, the other font types where not as eye catching .

Question 4 analysis- This question asked which artists or bands most 16 – 24yr olds liked to
listen to , so my music magazine can feature exclusive interviews and articles about them
that are up-to-date on the latest gossip, and by using this question I know what artists/bands
I need to put in my magazine and therefore encourage people to read them . Many 16- 24yr
olds chose “JLS” because they thought they where a new band that sang a variety of songs
from a different genres within hip-hop and are young and trendy and so aspirers can follow
them, also they show attributes of people who have the belief, ability and drive to fulfil
their dreams and as a result illustrates how if you have the strength to push yourself anyone
can be successful . Fewer people chose the “Nicki Minaj” and “ Flo-Rida” option because
they where older and haven't released many new singles. To conclude I will be putting artists
and bands like “JLS , Chris Brown, Rihanna and Jay Sean” in my hip hop magazine as they are
young trendy and have the best no.1 tracks currently out now.

Question 5 analysis- I used this question to determine the price of my Hip-hop music magazine, because
young unemployed teenagers who are still in full-time education are not going to pay £5-£6 on a magazine
, I wanted to understand what was the current “affordable price” people where willing to pay , also price
is a major issue when it comes to buying because I wanted people to believe they are receiving a good
value for money ,so I used this question to decide which price I would do my magazine that will be
reasonably priced and worth every penny. Most people went for the £2.50 option , as it is mid priced and
so you will not have to try to pinch the pennies enabling the buying to pay with 2 or 3 coins and be out the
shop in no time. Fewer people are likely to pay “£4+” because they would only read it a few times and
throw it in the bin, therefore my magazine would be reasonably priced at “£2.50”

Question 6 Analysis -This was a simple yet ,effective question that asked people what colour
scheme they would like to see a music magazine. I used this question as first impressions are the last
and so the visual look of a magazine would attract some potential buyers , therefore I wanted
peoples opinion on some colour schemes and if they think it would look good together on a hip-hop
music magazine. Many teenagers said they like the combination of red, black and blue as they are
bold and youthful and related to the urban theme I will be trying to portray , and where most
common colours associated with the hip hop genre ,compared to green, orange and yellow , which
people suggested that these bright colours illustrated more of a “pop” genre.

Question 7 analysis- This was one of my main questions as it helped me determine what
my double spread article was going to be about . Many teenagers picked the “interviews”
option as, they wanted to now how celebrities live life on the other side of the
recession, as it was fascinating to see how far singers and artist have made it to where
they are now compared to when they where younger. Fewer people picked “World tours &
Competitions” because they where interested in other topics such as “New Releases” and
“Reviews” of the latest singles that hits to No.1 charts.

Question 8 analysis- I used this question to ask which camera angles people preferred to see in a
music magazine ,many people chose the “mid-shot” option because they said is was nice to see a
picture of a person from the waist up ,so you can see they designer jackets or t-shirt they are wearing
and less people liked close-ups because it was too zoomed in and the last thing they want to see is a
picture of a persons face that scares them . Many people chose high key lighting rather then low-key
because it shows a more positive vibe and looks as if the artist wanted their picture to be taken and
appear happier compared to a picture taken in the gloomy shadows of darkness.

Question 9 analysis - I wanted to see what attracts people and encourages them to read a
magazine , and so I will be able to use those interests to my advantage and mould my
magazine from what appeals to 16 – 24yr olds , instead of putting in a load of information
, on something that people will just look at and then throw in the bin. Many people chose
the “layout” and the “articles” option , because if the topics mentioned are boring then
what's the point in continuing to read . So when making my music magazine I will put more
interesting articles and change the layout to help make my magazine stand out from the
shelf and look more interesting.

Question 10 analysis- I needed to understand what adverts people wanted to see in a music
magazine, since I am doing hip-hop magazine aimed at the younger generation I gave the
options for “designer clothes” and “job enrolments” as many teenagers are now looking for
part time jobs , or spend all the spare time trying to make a fashion statement . The majority
of people chose the job enrolments option as they wanted the freedom of money and plus
parents wanted their son/daughter to start earning so they can invest in their future ,e.g.
university savings.
