2. After being diagnosed in 2007 with stage 3 Melanoma, I
knew I wanted to help others anyway I could. After a
year of treatment I became an MRF volunteer.
I am thankful to my family and
friends who contribute their time
and efforts to speed the cure for
this deadly cancer.
We formed a team to raise money
and awareness of this deadly
disease.
3. New Jersey Miles for Melanoma Run-Walk was
held at the Township of Morris.
My group “Team Turner” along with
other volunteers helped MRF to
raise over $60,000 for Melanoma
Research.
My group has volunteered the past
five years to this event. We have
formed an online donation page and
held a tricky tray at the end of the
run to raise more money.
4. NJ Miles for Melanoma 5k Run/Walk is a community
fundraising event that supports the critical research for
viable melanoma treatments so desperately in need.
Melanoma is the most serious type
of skin cancer because it can
spread to lymph nodes and distant
organs.
5. My team continues to volunteer for MRF throughout the year by
getting donations from area businesses and friends to use at the
tricky tray held at the end of the race.
Thanks so much to my dermatologist, Dr.
Joseph Masessa, for your generous
donation and for providing free skin
screenings at the event.
North Jersey Dermatology provided free
skin screenings on-site as well as other
educational opportunities regarding sun
safety and melanoma prevention.
6. What would we do if we won the money?
The money would be used to
continue medical research to find
effective treatments and eventually
a cure for melanoma.
By winning this money our
team, along with MRF, could
continue to make a difference in the
lives of others.
