This portfolio document summarizes Suprima Rai's architecture projects from their second and third years of study. It includes summaries of 2 theater designs located at Fixby Hall, a co-housing project bringing students and elderly together in shared living spaces in Newsome, a plan for the open spaces around the Newsome Ponds near the demolished Newsome Mill, a hotel design in Huddersfield that maximizes the site space and daylight, and a transitional living space project for homeless people in Seel Street.
2. This project was located in Fixby Golf Hall.
The site was next to the Fixby Building
with beautiful Huddersfield landscape. I
designed two theaters where people could
enjoy the theatre both in winter and
summer.

10. In this co-housing project, the main scheme
was to bring students of Huddersfield and
elderly to come and live together, with the
hope that the two generations could help
enrich each others’ lives. One unit includes
4 student rooms, 1 elders room and a shared
living and kitchen space.
In this site, there was a historically significant
towers - the Newsome mill. It had great impat
on Newsome skyline and the locals. Many
people grew up looking at the clock tower of
Newsome. Many people also had grandparents
who worked in the Newsome mill. It broke every
body’s hearts when locals found this tower
burning in the middle of the night. The clock
tower lives but the others failed to survive.2.

21. Newsome Ponds Open Space
SECOND YEAR PROJECT
This project went hand in hand with co-housing project. The
Newsome Ponds are across from the Newsome co-housing site.
For many locals, the Newsome Mill was personal, and tearing
it down would mean tearing down their memories. The towers
of Newsome mill highly influenced the skyline of Newsome
which can be understood from the co-housing project. This
urban space design did not want to make any harsh or
outlandish changes. Keeping in mind that people are sensitive
to their environment, this minimal design has pathways
going diagnolly which will make people reach from one corner
to the other faster. If people are inclined to use the space more,
they are likely to run into other people and interact more.3.

24. Northumberland Hotel
THIRD YEAR PROJECT
4.
For the Northumberland Hotel project, the site was
located in the middle of the town of Huddersfield.
Because of this, it was important to utilize the area
of the site as much as possible. The shape of the
building was highly influenced by the b uilding
around the site with the sun path in mind making
sure all the rooms in the hotel got proper daylight.

THIRD YEAR PROJECT
5. For my final project, I wanted to do an architectural project that
could help people in need. Considering how homelessness has
become so transparent in every big city of England, I thought of
a living space for people who are in difficult phase of their lives.
