As we looked deeper into the opportunities, what we found was that solutions that prevent and recover food provide the greatest economic benefits.
On average, edible food purchased at retail is valued at approximately $2.50 per pound, or $5,000 per ton. Meanwhile, when food is ready to be thrown away as scraps, its value has generally dropped by 10 to 50 times to under $100 per ton.
However, without solutions to recycle food waste, achieving the US government’s goal that was set in 2015 to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030 will be nearly impossible.

M&S - Not only does this method cut down the packaging weight by up to 69%, but it also keeps the meat fresher for up to four extra days, which means it is less likely to go to waste
