1. BASIC FUNCTIONS
1.1. Directs and manages the nursing staff, according to the relevant hospital
policies and procedures, in the contribution of optimal nursing care to the
overall management of the patients.
2. PRINCIPAL DUTIES
2.1 Make a brief report within the 8 hours shift of the following:
2.1.1 Total patient census of each Ward or Unit.
2.1.2 Number of admissions and number of discharged patients.
2.1.3 Operations done (STAT & elective cases).
2.1.4 Deaths and transfer of patients to other hospitals.
2.1.5 Serious and reportable cases.
2.1.6 Number of waiting cases, deliveries in the delivery rooms.
2.1.7 Any unusual happening for the day.
2.1.8 DAMA and absconded cases.
2.2 Make rounds in every Ward, talk with patients, know their problems and
assure them of the help and best nursing care to be given to them as
much as possible.

2.3 Anticipates management of schedules of staff nurses in all Wards and
when the need arises.
2.4 Supervises and decides if ever there will be a shortage of nurses in the
Wards, appraised from professional nursing and rational point of view.
2.5 Guides and helps nurses in nursing procedures.
2.6 Follows-up and/or processes papers for patient’s transfer to other
hospitals; helps prepare the accompanying nurse regarding the
ambulance (if any).
2.7 Informs Director of Nursing in cases when any hospital employee is sick
or admitted to the hospital.
2.8 Reports Occurrence/Variance Accidents promptly and collects detailed
reports.
2.9 Observes and be aware of the Islamic laws.
2.10 Properly endorses special cases in the Wards, Watcher’s presence without
protocol, admission of VIPs, patients that need special attention,
communicable diseases, etc.
2.11 Helps the Head Nurses and the Director of Nursing in the assessment of
staff; observes secrecy and decorum.
2.12 Promotes her own professional and educational development.
2.13 Established rapport with every staff and employees of the hospital.
2.14 Demonstrates competence in performing CPR.

2.15 Maintains a strict confidentiality of information with the Director of
Nursing.
2.16 Implements appropriate policies and procedures to achieve the hospital’s
goals and objectives in pursuit of Standards of Care.
2.17 Ensures that all staff knows and understands department policies and
procedures concerning CPR, fire, disaster, emergency codes etc.
2.18 Follow all ACCREDITATION BODIES STANDARDS (e.g. CBAHI, JCI…etc)
related to his/her day to day work and participates actively in quality and
performance improvement activities as guided by the Total Quality
Management Department.
DUTIES AFTER WORKING HOURS:
2.19 Refers unusual problems, incidents (i.e. disaster management, sentinel
events, breach of policy, etc) to the Nursing Director or Administrator-on-
call.
2.20 In the absence of the Administrator and Director of Nursing (i.e. after
duty hours) the supervisor will act in behalf of Nursing Administration
during off duties (Fridays and Holidays) and to attend on the staff/ patient
problems and any OVR relating to patient safety in collaboration to duty
manager.
2.21 The Supervisor will also handle any emergencies, death or incidents
within their duty hours.

2.22 The Supervisor is delegated the administrative authority, responsibility
and accountability necessary for carrying out his/ her assigned duties
such as planning and directing department operations.
3. EDUCATION
3.1 Essential:
Registered Nurse in both country of origin and in Saudi Arabia
4. EXPERIENCE AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
4.1 Professional Experience:
4.1.1 Essential:
Minimum of 5 years experience after registration out of which is
two years being a Head Nurse or Supervisor
4.1.2 Desirable:
Bilingual Arabic and English proficiency
4.2 Specialized Knowledge/ Experience:
4.2.1 Essential:
Awareness of the socio- cultural factors involved in health care
setting.
