This document discusses music that has been meaningful to the author at different stages of their life. As a child, the author enjoyed the pop song "Superstar" by Jamelia and made up dances to it with friends. In their teenage years, the author preferred rock music by artists like Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne and no longer danced in public. Currently, the acoustic song "Let Her Go" by Passenger appeals to the author's varied musical tastes, and they are not embarrassed to enjoy music differently than friends.
2. Childhood Song
1. Jamelia : Superstar
2. Released in 2003
3. Pop song
Jamelia released successful single, "Superstar"
which charted at number three on the UK
Singles Charts respectively, with charting at
number one in Australia and becoming
platinum certified in Australia.
This song appealed to me because the
language was simple, catchy and me
and my friends at school made a dance
to it that I can partly remember still
today.
The music video was very popular and it
was what inspired me and my friends to
make up a dance. The music video
features firstly
with three
females dancing
together.
The video also features a
setting of a night club which
interest many people as the
atmosphere reflects the song.
The cuts are fast and build
up an atmosphere of
excitement.
3. Teenage Years
Song
1. Kelly Clarkson :
Addicted
2. Released in 2005
3. Rocky song
1. Avril Lavigne: My
Happy Ending
2. Released in 2004
3. Rocky song
Kelly’s main genres are pop and pop
rock. In my younger years I used to
listen to pop (Jamelia), but when I was
a teenager I was more rocky.
Me and my friends no longer liked
dancing in the playground as we
didn’t think it was deemed as ‘cool’ or
a ‘normal’ thing for a teenager to do.
As a young teenager, I started listening to depressing
and more relaxed songs when compared to the pop
songs that I used to dance to. I found pop rock more
entertaining.
Avril and Kelly where
my idols at this point.
There looks where pretty
similar. Scruffy/funky hair
(the rocky teenager look).
I love ‘My Happy Ending’. The video shows
avril, at the end, playing in a band with her
friends on a roof top. At the time I thought this
was amazing and as a teenager I always
wanted to be a singer in a band.
4. Current Song
1. Passenger : Let Her
Go
2. Released in 2012
3. Acoustic song
I have never come across the
band Passenger before, I heard
the song Let Her Go on the radio
and I loved it.
The song is relaxed and this
atmosphere is conveyed also
within the music video.
The music video shows the lead singer
performing on stage and sometimes focuses
upon the crowd: overall it creates a calm
vibe.
As a sixteen year old, I have no preference in
music and I often listen to a variety of genres. This
is why I can love number ones in the charts, but at
the same time enjoy songs that are not as
successful or well known.
In previous years I would conform to the idols
of my friends and listen to the same music as
them. However, now that I am older if I like
something I am not embarrassed to say.
This song is very different from
the songs I previously used to
listen to all of the time; for
example Kelly, Jamelia and Avril.
