Your team has a huge responsibility to enable IT services without disruption for your organization. ServiceNow Service Mapping gives you a clear idea of how services are affected by infrastructure issues. However, you are missing one critical piece – visibility into the mainframe (IBM Z). To drive business value, you need visibility into service performance by automatically connecting mainframe CIs into your CMDB and ServiceNow Service Mapping.
In this webinar, Ian Hartley, Director of Product Management at Precisely, will discuss how Precisely Ironstream can help you with ITOM visibility by automatically linking your mainframe to ServiceNow Service Mapping in just a few clicks.
Watch this on-demand webcast to learn:
• The “must-dos” for a proactive approach to mainframe visibility in ServiceNow Service Mapping
• How to auto-populate the CMDB and ServiceNow with mainframe CIs
• The immediate value Ironstream can bring to your business by connecting the mainframe to ServiceNow

Many services, many challenges,
many options
• Variety of systems & platforms
• Complex architectures
• Multiple technology elements:
hardware, software & skill sets
• Range of monitors & methods for
surveillance & response

Mainframe
• ‘Specialized’ environment
• Has a lot of baked-in
knowledge
• Has consistency, but also
variety
• Not ServiceNow native
territory
• Pattern for Discovery
• Very limited results
8. “The Tool of Tools”
• Manual processes are common
• Unmanageable
• Time-consuming
• Labor-intensive
• Limited in many ways
One customer said:
“We’ve been collecting and documenting this
information for 18 months…and we’re still not
done!”

Does This Really Meet Requirements?
Must!
• Have visibility
• Be agile
• Quickly identify and resolve issues
• Keep the business running
10. 2. Understanding

What is there
• Leverage what you know
• What you have
• How it connects
How things relate
• Apply your knowledge
• Standard/expected
• Non-standard/unexpected
• “Just because…

2. Understand
Apply Service Context via
‘patterns’
• Automated
• Filtered
• Reliable
• Accurate
18. Service Mapping for Mainframe
• Leverage ‘patterns’ to add ‘discovered’ configuration items into ‘service’ context
• Configure…run…automate
• Get mainframe into the wider service view of critical applications & processes
And of course this is where ServiceNow can help.
2 things are key:
Visibility
How what you have fits together – i.e. a map of what constitutes a service/system/application
But what about when it comes to mainframe?
Name
OS Version
Operating system
Manufacturer
Serial number
Does it really meet requirements?
Does it really cater for those MUST DO items from earlier?
But what about when it comes to mainframe?

To understand the relationship between these two features, think about a city bus map. The underlying road map shows all the city’s roads and how they intersect. In the same way, Discovery shows you all CIs and how they are related. Now, think about a public transport route. This shows you the specific roads that make up the route and which intersections the bus passes through. This is the equivalent of a service map, which shows you the CIs (roads) that support the service, along with their service-level relationships. And, just like roads and bus routes, these two features work seamlessly with each other. For instance, you can instantly see which services are impacted by a CI issue, in the same way that a city bus map lets you see which bus routes are affected by a road closure.
