This document summarizes a Rolls-Royce presentation on technical publications and integrated production systems. It introduces Nigel Wright and Steve Foster who will discuss Rolls-Royce technical publications. It then describes how Rolls-Royce has moved from paper-based to electronic technical publications and data delivery using a system called PS2000. Finally, it discusses Ian McGill's upcoming presentation on Rolls-Royce's integrated production system which aims to create a seamless IT solution to support business operations.

How we used to do it……………
• Authors create technical instructions
• Copy typists capture data to create text
• Illustrators produced graphics from engineering drawings
• Text and graphics were use to create printing plates
• Pages printed
• Distributed
• Revisions - incorporation

How we used to do it……………
Issues with this process
• Very labour intensive
• Slow to make revisions
• High print costs
• Huge environmental impact

PS2000
• In the early 1990s Rolls-Royce plc needed to move to an electronic
publication system
• Work began to identify a supplier and product
• No single system was available “out the box”
• Corena chosen as software supplier to help create a solution
• Corena/R-R developed a system called PS2000
• Collection of COTs products, with bespoke coding
• System has grown and developed over time

PS2000 – Text and Graphics
• PS2000 - advantages of electronic graphics and text
• Use of CADD reduced the creation time - improved data quality
due to removing human interpretation
• Text in ATA iSpec 2200 gave huge savings in time due to use of
“boiler plate” text and ability to copy/paste
• Tagging and hyperlinking - reference to other documents,
significantly reducing the effort for the end user

PS2000 – Global technical Publications Strategic Solution
• PS2000 is “End of Life”
• Rolls-Royce moving to an S1000D based system - Global Technical
Publication Strategic Solution (GTPSS)
• InfoTrust Group (ITG) now Flat Iron Solutions (FIS) – their product
TechSight X will replace PS2000
•Text editing software planned to contain a built in Simplified English
checker
• GTPSS will be used across all Rolls-Royce sectors replacing all
existing publication solutions with a single global application

• GTPSS will provide remote access for strategic suppliers worldwide
• S1000D - data specific to an individual engine serial number
using Applicability
• Customers access to data rather than Rolls-Royce delivery
• Meets the demands of today’s business and positions us for the
