THOUGHTS TO CONSIDER !!!
Values are the guiding principles that help us achieve our life purposes. They are the foun-
dation of our character and our confidence. Values are reflected in the way we behave and in
how we see the world. These values will cause us to press toward our goals and visions. De-
fining our values helps to keep us on course so that we reach our destiny. What we do re-
flects what we believe.
William Lloyd Garrison lived in America during the nineteenth century. Slavery was an ac-
cepted way of life at that time. Garrison held to a different set of values. He felt slavery was a
hideous crime against God and people. Throngs of people mocked him for his beliefs. Garri-
son did not allow the opinions of people to hinder him in his opposition to slavery. He
preached his message until slavery was brought to a place of death in his country.
What are your values? Have you defined the values that you are willing to live for. Are you
willing to stand against all opposition and fight for those values? Be bold in your convic-
tions. After all, you must be able to live with yourself!

RESILIENCY THOUGHTS FOR ALL!
Challenge is a fact of life. Making adjustments in each life stage, coping with
unexpected setbacks, or handling the daily stresses of life can turn a crisis into
an opportunity for growth. —Ben Silliman, University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension
Resiliency is the family’s ability to cultivate strengths to positively meet the
challenges of life. —National Network for Family Resiliency, 1993
Resiliency is what happens when one regains functioning after adversity.
— Norman Garmezy, 1993
