The first qualitative question was regarding the colour scheme of the whole magazine. Every person
said it should be bold and eye catching. The most prominent colour combination was red, yellow
and green as they are heavily associated with the genre. There were other suggestions, however
one colour that kept recurring was red.
The following question asked about the possible headline, “Got ‘em running scared.” The majority
of responses said they thought it was a good headline because it aroused interest and curiosity.
However some thought that the headline was too vague and needed added detail. One person said
that this kind of article is the typical “rising star” article that is all too common in music magazines.
Next was the concept of the article. Many felt it was a good idea as they think there is a lot of focus
on men in reggae and dancehall and is good to see a woman on taking charge. Some felt that it
needed to be more precise, for example focus on her life, music, style etc.
A key point is to keep the genre flowing through the magazine. There were a variety of suggestions.
One said that there should be concert reviews, interviews with stars in that genre. Another said
that the font might play a big part, reggae is rough so have the font graffiti like. One thought the
costume of the models and artists should be taken very carefully, make sure they aren’t heavily
done up with make up.
Lastly was the question of how to make the magazine appealing. There were again a variety of
responses. A common one though was to include big stars in the genre, exclusive interviews and
competitions. One person believed that women have a lot of power here, claiming everyone loves a
pretty women. A key thing was to remember my target audience and have the features based
round that. News was another main thing, a person said to have the latest news since where he
lives there aren’t many sources of information for him. There were suggestions concerning
layout, making sure images were of good quality and the overall layout must be clear.
