7. Student Opportunities
Outside of the classroom students enjoy the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting
and cultural activities, including the school’s Talent Quest, ASB Auckland Secondary School’s
Polynesian Festival, Stage Challenge, Manukau Secondary Schools Performing Arts Competition,
Debating, Model United Nations and Pasifika Beats.
In the sporting arena students are able to represent the college in the following codes; rugby, touch,
tag, rugby league, netball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball and badminton.
Students are offered a variety of leadership opportunities within the college; including Prefects,
House Captains, the Academic Council, Librarians, the Student Health Team and the Enviro Group.

9. Student Achievement
Tamaki College is a school committed to academic excellence at all levels and the development
of each student’s potential. The college is proud to offer a wide range of courses and programmes
designed to prepare students for both university study and trade based education. Tamaki College
offers NCEA and is committed to the vision and principles of the New Zealand Curriculum.
Academic achievement is given the highest priority through quality teaching in the classroom and
the through the work of the Academic Co-ordinators. Programmes and courses on offer at Tamaki
College range from ESOL classes for students new to New Zealand, to an extension class programme
at all levels and learning labs for those students preparing for external exams.

Studies, History, Geography, Economics, Accounting, Computer Studies, ICT, Food Technology,
Catering and Hospitality, Furniture Making, Automotive Engineering, Technology, Media Studies,

11. School Facilities
Te Poho o Tamaki is the school marae, home to the Maori Performing Arts Academy.
The entire school is networked and there are four very well equipped Information Technology rooms, together
with smart boards in key classrooms.
The school is home to a media centre and television studio.
The Learning Enhancement Centre provides support for students with special education needs.
The Sylvia Fausett Library contains a networked reference room.
The school’s international standard recreation centre is home to the school’s Sports Academy for those students
who wish to pursue a career in the sports industry.
The state-of-the-art Technology Centre provides a range of Industry Training Organisation courses including;
furniture making, catering and hospitality and automotive engineering.

The school’s Health Centre provides health, welfare and personal guidance services for
students in a co-ordinated manner. Deans provide strong student pastoral support and ensure
good communication with parents and caregivers.

Parents Groups and information evenings provided by the college.
