Movie trailers are released 12 months before the film release
date in theatres.
Instagram is a less explored channel especially for gaming.
The low usage of the channel presents great opportunities for
brands to reach the same target with different approaches or
to touch potential fans that are Instagram heavy users.
Gaming trailers are published more than 6 months prior to
the official game release.
Online gaming can be launched as a BETA temporary
version (before the official launch) for brands to co-create
the next version of the game with their communities and
improve the gaming experience (ARK: Survival Evolved) .
Distribution strategies:
Gaming and film trailers with similar titles can be released in
parallel (Mad Max Fury Road in cinemas and Mad Max
Savage Road for PS4).
Higher interaction rates in gaming than for films & TV
(4-7% vs. 1-4%) and longer form commercial content (up
to 10 minutes vs. up to 3 minutes for film & TV) show a high
willingness of the target audience to engage with the brand.
Playstation outperforms the other brands on YouTube in
interactions (278k) and views (7M), followed by Nintendo (180k
and 7M respectively).
Ubisoft is the most popular brand on Facebook (comments and
likes account for 33k, representing 25% of total Facebook
interactions).
SUMMARY (2)
Fox is the most active brand on YouTube (243 videos), however
Disney-owned Marvel gathers the highest YouTube fan base.
Warner Bros has the most views on YouTube (27M), eOne has
the highest number of videos on Instagram (16 videos). Disney
has the highest Facebook Posts (104) and consequently it
gathers the highest number of Facebook fans (46M).
Views represent YouTube views as extracted from the Teads Labs and the interaction rate is calculated with the sum of
Interactions and Facebook comments divided by YouTube Views.

Ranked in 1st place, the official trailer of Point Break by Warner Bros reveals the film that will be released on January 8th,
2016 - a remake of the movie with the same name from 1991. Despite only publishing 28 (4%) out of the 701 videos published
in May in the movies category, Warner Bros occupies 5 out of 10 positions in the top 10 ranking.
Second in performance comes Sony Pictures, with only one video less published on YouTube than Warner Bros.
Long-form trailers seem the most successful as 8 out of 10 trailers in the top 10 run over 2 minutes, two of them are over 3
minutes.

The brands holding the largest share of interactions
(52% in total) only published 8% of all videos in May:
Warner Bros and Sony Pictures account for 27 and 28
videos while Fox counts for the highest number of
videos with 243 out of 701 videos published in the
category in total.
“Other” brands comprise Disney, Anchor Bay, Pathe,
Cineworld, Odeon and Fandango, which cumulatively
hold less than 1% share of views but also own a lower
number of videos each, compared to the brands with a
higher share of views.

Fox, 20th Century Fox and Marvel rank higher in share
of interactions than in views.
Fox’s performance results from videos related to
Lucifer, Bones and Minority Report*. 20th Century Fox
owns excellent share of interactions particularly due to
Maze Runner. Marvel’s interactions come mainly from a
live streamed convention coverage at Atlantic City on
Marvel announcements and interviews.

Only three brands – Nintendo, Playstation and Ubisoft – feature the top 10 ranking.
Most videos have medium to long content, with Ubisoft and Playstation getting very close the 10-minute mark, and all
videos in the top 10 have extremely high interaction rates of 4-7%.
Playstation appears 7 times on the ranking but it also gathers the highest number of videos with 75 out of 156 videos on
YouTube. Nintendo follows with 38 videos on YouTube and 74 Facebook posts.

TOP VIDEOS - INSTAGRAM
Nintendo is the most active brand on Instagram (5 videos) while Playstation, Bethesda and Ubisoft only have one video
each.
Many gaming brands are inactive on Instagram, such as Activision, Blizzard Entertainment, Codemasters, MTV Games,
Nordic Games, Rockstar Games, Vivendi Universal Games and Xbox.
Playstation ranks first in terms of Instagram interactions, gathering more than 49k likes and 1.6k comments on the video:

PlayStation and Nintendo hold 90% of all views in
the Gaming category in May. PlayStation has the
highest number of videos (75) followed by Ubisoft
(41) and Nintendo (38).
Although Rockstar Games has a low share of views
on YouTube (represented by 57,700) its strategy
shows more activity on Facebook posts (22) which
may be helping the brand’s position in the Teads
barometer, as it ranks 3rd in popularity on Facebook
for the month of May.

Ubisoft is one of the best performing brands. It’s the 3nd most active brand after

Ubisoft’s success derives mainly from the new Assassin’s Creed’s videos. The
newest title in the franchise is set in London in 1868 during the Industrial
Revolution. The game is to be released on October 23rd and the trailer was
published on the 12th of May.
