3. Some features of Engineering Drawings.
• Engineering Drawing provide single and unique
information to all engineers independent of
regions/country/organization.
• It is a system of graphic representation. Its purpose is to
provide sufficient information to facilitate its design,
construction, and maintenance.
• This type of drawing is based on descriptive geometry and
uses orthogonal projections to draw the different views of
an object, plane, part, machine and others.
• Several views are usually represented as top view, roof,
floor, elevation, bounded and covered among others.
• Dimensions is an important factor for engineering
drawings.
• The technical drawing follows internationally approved
regulations to unify the language used. However, each
country has a body that normalizes the study and approval

4. Artistic drawing
• The information hiding is not unique, depends upon the
viewers perspective.
• Dimension s not a factor or matter.
• It may descriptive or imaginary or actual
• Its purpose is aesthetic, is to convey an idea or feeling.
• Artistic drawing is the free representation of feelings,
actions and ideas.

What is the importance of Engineering Drawings
for CSE students?
• Suppose a CSE engineer has to design a CPU which is the Brain of the
computer. you being from CSE domain, how will you express your Design
Idea! It can happen only through Engineering drawing. Whether you are
expressing the design of a CPU which may contain 60 million transistors or a
RAM chip which should fit into a a DIMM slot or say new USB version 5.0
which could be plugged into any future device. Manufacturing can happen
only when there is a detailed engineering drawing about the things to be
fabricated. This is where Engineering Drawing plays a major role. CSE
engineers should have this ability to express their own design Idea as a
drawing.
• Its very useful because in future if you are going to develop a game then you
will understand how engineering drawing comes into rescue in representing
something in 3D into 2D.
Remember, the world we live in is a “Multidisciplinary” world. This is the true
nature of the Real World. Being an engineer only your domain knowledge is not
sufficient, other domains also crucial for an engineer.

engineering.

15. Graphical representation of an object – Drawing
• Engineering drawing – A drawing of an object
that contains all information
-like actual shape, accurate size,manufacturing
methods, etc., required for its construction.
-No construction/manufacturing of any (man -
made) engineering objects is possible without
engineering drawing.

16. What will you learn in this course?
You will learn - How industry communicates technical
information.
• Visualization – the ability to mentally control visual
information.
• Graphics theory – geometry and projection techniques.
• Standards – set of rules that govern how parts are made
and technical drawings are represented.
• Conventions – commonly accepted practices and methods
used for technical drawings.
• Tools – devices used to create technical drawings and
models.
• Applications – the various uses for technical drawings.

17. Computer has a major impact on the methods used to
design and create technical drawings.
Design and drafting on computer are cheap and less time
consuming.
Why we go for manual drawing?

18. Computer cannot replace the drafting board and
equipment as a learning tool.
Once you have learned the basics of mathematics, now
after class 12, you are allowed the use of calculator
and computer.
If basic fundamentals are clear, better use can be
made of the power of the software.
To be an expert in technical drawing, this first course
on Engineering (manual) Drawing is the first step.
