32. Overview of the Situation in the Technology
Industry and Outlook for Winter 2021/2022

- Turnover in Finland totalled some EUR 82 billion in 2020. Growth from the previous year was
two percent for the full year. Turnover growth has continued at a rate of 5-6 percent this year.
- The monetary value of new orders reported between July-September 2021 was 6% lower
than in the preceding quarter, but 7% higher than in the corresponding period in 2020.
- At the end of September, the value of order books was 5% higher than at the end of June,
and 16% higher than in September 2020.
- The turnover of the technology industry in Finland is estimated to be higher in the winter
2021 than at the same time a year earlier.
- The number of employees in Finland at the end of September 2021 was a good of one per
cent more than an average in 2020. The number of employees was some 319,000, which is
4,000 more than an average in 2020.
- Recruitment of new staff was on the strong rise in January-September. There were a total of
35,000 recruitments, compared to 28,000 in the whole year 2020.
