Police Brutality Piece
We have not forgotten about all
the injustices before our time, of our time,
and we will not forget the possible
injustices to come. You might forget about
Mike Brown, Eric Garner, and let it die
down, but I cannot, and will not, forget.
This is an injustice, so please tell me, where
is our justice, black people’s justice? Take
the time to acknowledge the fact that there
has not been a change from the 1600s to
this very day. We may be free and equal,
but that is only because the government
allows us to believe that we are free and
that we are equal. Yet, they remind us on a
daily basis, then and now, that we indeed
are NOT free and we are NOT equal. We
are still enslaved, but it is not just us blacks,
but all the citizens of the United States of
America, of this world. 1
We, black people, are not doing
much of anything to change that. Some of
us are just sitting around getting lazy,
waiting for the day that they can say, “I
told you this was going to happen.” They
are looking for loopholes in the only piece
of paper that grants us “freedom and
equality.” If you want to make a change or
create a difference, you have to do more
than protest; you might be heard and seen,
but you won’t be listened to. Why would
they listen to you when you care more
about Gucci belts, and Brazilian hair than
the lives of others and the justice in our
unjust law system. Put your money where
your mouth is. Blacks alone are a one
trillion dollar industry, so think of the
benefits of all the citizens of the USA
keeping their money in their pockets,
purses, wallets, socks, mattresses,
shoeboxes, and closets. Cut off all that
money, and then make demands. I do
believe you will see a change; by changing
their income, you can change your world.
Rosa Parks did! During bus boycotts,
transportation systems lost tons of dollars
because blacks were their biggest
customers.
There is an argument about
whether or not violence is necessary to get
a problem resolved. So, do you believe that
burning cars and buildings, or shooting at
police and stealing is screaming out, “Make
a difference”? Or does it scream, ”You’re
right! Shoot when you see me, you have
every right to kill me and get away with it
because I am a wild animal.” This is not
only about you, but it’s about our future.
You think this is bad? Well, if we don’t stop
this, it will get worse.
It may not have been your son
today, but it could be tomorrow. It may not
be your daughter today, but it could be
next week. I’m not trying to jinx anyone,
but my point is just because it hasn’t
happened to you, that doesn’t mean it
won’t. Just because it didn’t make the
news, it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. The
media shows you what they want you to
know and not much else. I am trying to
open your eyes, save the lives of the ones
who could possibly die. Being ignorant
about the situations doesn’t help anyone.
Justice starts here, today. Put down your
weapons, put away your money, lift your
voices, and listen to the truth. Close your
wallet and make demands. Change starts
here!
