Make Sure Driver’s Can See You
CONCERNS
●Part of the problem is that drivers and bicyclists are more distracted in
2023.
●Watching movies on car TV's, Texting with smart cell phone devices and
Talking to other drivers on the road or passengers.
●The explosive mix diversion ingredients' have sparked new safety campaign
initiatives this year.
●Another part of the problem is that people feel like they are too busy to
vote; don't really like to vote or just don't have a voter identity."

CONCERNS
● One expert testified "that Hispanic registered voters and Black registered
voters were respectively 195% and 305% more likely than their Anglo peers
to lack" voter ID.
● Another survey found that "Blacks were 1.78 times more likely than
Whites, and Latinos 2.42 times more likely, to lack" voter ID.
● Even the state's own expert determined that "4% of eligible White voters
lacked [voter] ID, compared to 5.3% of eligible Black voters and 6.9% of
eligible Hispanic voters."

GOALS:
●We would like to create a public safety campaign with private
donations and funding.
●The petition asks city-governments to fund projects to paint the
yellow and white reflective lines wider, bolder and more visible in
every crosswalk intersection in America.
●If the crosswalk lines are present in every single crosswalk
intersection and are painted wider and bolder, this would be
another step to solve the distracted driver problem facing America
today.

ACCORDING TO OKLAHOMA PEDESTRIAN LAW
Drivers are supposed to stop or yield to Pedestrians whether they're in a
marked crosswalk or not. While pedestrians are supposed to enter a
crosswalk with both eyes open to proceed with caution. There's definitely a
shared responsibility. This issue does not get a lot of air-time. However, it is
a problem that is easily fixed. It should not take a major catastrophe or
another pedestrian tragedy to spur supporter action.

Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Federal Highway
Administration have teamed with the Department
of Public Safety
● There has to be more intensive focus opportunities for
community leader involvement. According to Oklahoma
Pedestrian Law:
● Section 1101. - Pedestrians' right-of-way in crosswalks.
● A. When traffic-control signals are not in place or are not in
operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to
a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the
pedestrian is upon that half of the roadway upon which the

● closely from the opposite half of the roadway as to be in danger.
A. No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety
and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it
is impossible for the driver to yield.
B. Whenever any vehicle is stopped at a crosswalk, the driver of any
other vehicle approaching from the rear shall not overtake and
pass such stopped vehicle until the overtaking driver has
ascertained that such movement can be made with safety.

TWO DISTINCT COMPONENTS TO INCREASE THE VISIBILITY OF
ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS
Increased enforcement and increased publicity about the
enforcement has led to substantial increases in compliance with
occupant protection laws.
1. Make sure that a driver passing a stopped vehicle being cited
knows it’s “Pedestrian Enforcement Crossing Operation.”
2. Place feedback signs on busy streets conveying the message that
“yielding to pedestrians is an important safety issue.”
