Professional Knowledge and

21. Reflective practice is the capacity to reflect on action so as
to engage in a process of continuous learning.
Schön, Donald A. (1983). The reflective practitioner: how professionals think in action. New
York: Basic Books.ISBN 046506874X. OCLC 8709452.
A key rationale for reflective practice is that experience
alone does not necessarily lead to learning;
deliberate reflection on experience is essential.
Loughran, J. John (January 2002). "Effective reflective practice: in search of meaning in learning
about teaching" (PDF). Journal of Teacher Education 53 (1): 33–

23. Professional reflection
Some advice for writing a reflective statement
Becoming an AUA Accredited Member or Fellow
Briefly describe the development activity you undertook, recognising what it was
intended to support/extend your skills with
Think about the impact the development activity had upon you as a person and in your
work:
- Did this activity enhance your understanding and/or competencies?
- What did you learn that surprised you?
- How did this learning relate to the things you are learning in other development?
- How did you put the development activity into practical use in your day to day work?
- What impact did it have on the way you work and interact with others?
- Try to give some tangible examples, rather than making generalised statements
