Kong 1.0 reached maturity with the addition of L4 proxying, service mesh capabilities using mTLS, and blue/green upgrade paths. Kong 1.1 introduced declarative configuration using a YAML file for DB-less deployments and importing configurations into databases. It also added tags for filtering entities. Upcoming versions will focus on performance, gRPC support, and Kong Enterprise features while continuing to consolidate the platform.
