Colours
I have chosen to use the colour green a lot in my documentary as
the topic that my documentary’s on is found in a loch which is in a
forest. This means the colour green will come from trees, grass
and other natural things. The colour green may also come from
the green screen that I will interview my guests in front of if I
decide not to render over it.
The colour blue will come from the water I will film next to. This is
because the documentary is about an underwater creature, so it
makes sense to film near water. The colour blue will also come
from the sky as I will be filming outside in daylight.
This darker shade of blue might come from any footage I find on
the internet if it’s filmed during the night.
Style sheet
Fonts
This font is called “Bugaki” and in my opinion I think it’d look really good in the setting of a documentary. I
think that the font is very professional and it conveys a serious tone which I’m looking for. The “Bugaki”
font is very similar to what I want, even if I don’t use it in my final product. My only issue with the font is
that it’s not very sharp which is something I’m looking for but other than that it would be perfect.
This font is called “Bustor Rhikan” and I personally believe it suits the aesthetic of a documentary. I think it
suits the look of a documentary, as it’s the type of font you’d see on a newspaper which is similarly
informative to a documentary. My overarching problem with this font is that it’s not as bold as I wanted it
to be, as I wanted it to stand out and look serious.
This font is called “Markerland” and I think it looks good for a documentary for a younger demographic.
The big problem is that it looks like it’s out of a cartoon which doesn’t help with the serious tone I’m going
for in my documentary. However, it is bold which is something I was looking for. Overall, if the lines were
straighter and the points were sharper it’d be the perfect font for my documentary.
In my product, I will be using fonts for things like the title of my documentary on the
poster and the DVD front cover. I could also use a font if I were to put a list of facts on
the screen.
Style sheet
Image Style
This image style is real life photography which the majority of my documentary is
going to be. The reason I have chosen this image specifically is that it is a good
look at how I am going to film my interviews. I would want to set it up with a
green screen behind them like in this photo so I can then edit in water. The shot
that the actual camera is getting is a mid shot or a medium close up which is
what I intend to use in mine.
This image style is real life photography which I’m going to replicate in my
production by getting similar images to this. I’m going to get images that are
predominantly green and blue as my documentary is very nature orientated. I’ll
be using real life photography a lot in my documentary overall. The majority of
the time I will be using it will be over voiceover to make the documentary not
boring. The other way I’ll be using it is to record me and my interviewees in and
out of the college studio. These shots are long shots that establish the location, I
will be using shots exactly like this to establish my location.
This Image style is digital animation which is something I may use in my
documentary at the end if I have enough time. The reason I might use it is
because there is no solid evidence of The Loch Ness Monster so I can show it via
animation. My only issue with animating it is that it might not be good as I’m not
proficient at editing.
Layout 1 This is an example of the beginning of the documentary, as it has a
title and an establishing shot.
Layout 2 This is an example of how the interviews in the documentary
might look if I render a background onto the green screen behind
the interviewee.
Props & Locations

Askham Bog
Hogg’s Pond
Chapman’s Pond
Askham Bog
The distance from York College to Askham Bog is 0.7 miles according to
Google Maps. The time it takes to walk to Askham Bog from York
College is 15 minutes. The travel cost of going to Askham Bog is free as
it’s within walking distance of York College. Also, because Askham
Bog’s public property I won’t have to ask for permission or get any
signatures, etc.
Hogg’s Pond
The distance to Hogg’s Pond from York College is 0.9 miles according to
Google Maps. The time it takes to walk to Hogg’s Pond from York College
is 16 minutes.
The cost of travel to get to Hogg’s Pond from York College is free as it’s
within walking distance. Also, Hogg’s Pond could possibly be private
property possibly as it is connected to some lakeside cottages, but
according to Google it is not.
Chapman’s Pond
The distance to Chapman’s Pond from York College is 0.7 miles according
to Google Maps.
According to Google Maps the time it takes to get to Chapman’s Pond
from York College is 15 minutes.
It would be free to get to Chapman’s Pond from York College as it is
easily within walking distance.
Also, Chapman’s Pond is in a park so it is likely public property so I wont
need permission to film there, although it might not be very private.

Contingency Planning
Potential Issue Solution
It might rain on the day we’re intending to film
outside.
Check the forecast on BBC Weather before we
set off and if it’s supposed to rain, schedule it for
a day when it’s not.
The cameras battery might die during production. Bring a spare battery or two for the camera, so
we have more than enough charge.
We might forget equipment before we set off to
record outside.
Double check we have all the right equipment
otherwise we’ll have to walk back to college
which will waste time.
We might leave the equipment behind at the
outside location where we were filming.
Double check we have all the equipment or
compile an equipment list and tick it off before
we go.
It might start raining while we’re out, contrary to
the weather forecast. This means the equipment
might get soaked and therefore ruined.
Bring an umbrella so we can keep our equipment
dry if we carry it. Also, we’ll look for nearby
places with shelter from the rain like cafes, etc.
The internet might be down which means: I cant
research my documentaries topic, edit my
footage or upload my work onto Teams and
I’ll do as much as I can without internet
connection. After that, I’ll do the rest on my
phone with my data (4G) or on another day.
Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be
avoided?
Tripping over equipment and bags, therefore
injuring ourselves.
I will make sure equipment is put under desks
while editing and filming in the studio. While in
public, I will put the equipment under chairs and
on benches.
I might get eye strain from looking at the screen
for too long whilst editing.
I will take breaks where I look away from the
screen and possibly leave the room for fresh air.
I might get hand cramp from holding the camera
while getting handheld shots in production. Also,
during post-production while using a mouse and
keyboard to edit.
I will try to use the tripod as much as I can, but
I’ll also be taking breaks during production and
post-production regularly as well.
I might get back and leg pains from standing up
too long during production while filming.
Whereas, I might sit down too long while editing
during post-production.
I’ll make sure to sit down for breaks during
production; I’ll take breaks by walking around
during post-production.
I might get hit by a car, as there’s a lot of roads
to cross on the way to any of the locations I
choose.
I will avoid this issue, by being sensible and
making sure me and my crew look both ways
while crossing the road. We will also be making
sure we utilise stoplights whenever we’re able.
I might fall into water and drown, as I’m
purposely working near water.
Me and the crew will stand a reasonable
distance away from the edge of any lakes or
ponds.
