1. To Whom It May Concern
I am writing to recommend my recent graduate Mr. Tiju Mathew Thomas, who has completed
his Masters of Engineering Sciences in Advanced Manufacturing Technology at Swinburne
University of Technology. Tiju undertook his Master Thesis on “Mechanical properties of
Polymeric Fibre Reinforced Composites Manufactured by a Rapid Manufacturing
Method” under my supervision from March 2016 to July 2016.
During this time, he explored the mechanical properties of different fibre reinforced polymer
composites using both conventional and rapid manufacturing processes. He conducted an
extensive literature research on the topic exploring various mechanisms to enhance some
unique preform architectures we designed for manufacturing of 3D reinforced composites. He
also performed experiments on woven composites to validate some of suggested approaches.
He gained some valuable hands on experience on different processing machines in the Polymer
Lab at Swinburne, which are state of the art technology.
I found him to be hardworking and dedicated towards his work. He was always eager to learn
any new technology associated in the domain of polymer based composites. He has been a
proactive student and well knowledgeable in preparing professional documents and technical
reports. He is suitably skilled to design using leading industry CAD packages including
AutoCAD and PTC Creo.
He has also passed with distinction my unit “Computer Modelling, Visualisation and Analysis”
where he has learnt about fundamental Finite Element Methods, their applications and the
experimental to validate the FEM models for complex numerical solutions.
Tiju is a friendly individual and easy to work with. I am confident that he will have great
contributions to any team and organisations he will be a part of.
I wish him all the very best for his future endeavours.
