Zoom call at Sunderland College’s Innovation Space
The session was set up by RTS and hosted by Jasmine Dotiwala who was accompanied by guest
speakers Michael Sheridan, Funmi Olutoye, Fozia Nasir and Jordaan Shelley.
Dotiwala is a British producer, broadcaster and columnist and has worked for platforms such as
MTV, Channel 4, Netflix and BBC Radio London. Guest speaker Michael Sheridan has worked for
the BBC, ITV, TED Conferences, CNBC, Netflix and most recently Channel 4. Funmi Olutoye is most
known for her work as a journalist and news features producer within ITV working on shows such
as Good Morning, Lorraine and This Morning. Focia Nasir is a producer who has worked for
several different companies however now works primarily for the BBC. Jordaan Shelley worked
her way up from being a researcher at the BBC to a producer on Jeremy Vine and is now the
Producer of Good Morning Britain.
These people told us about their experiences in the industry and how they got to the roles they
work at today, telling us the dos and don’ts in the industry, if degrees help to get to the position
that they’re at now, entry roles that we can/should apply for now if we are or aren’t wanting to go
to university ourselves and how to network and create contacts with people from the industry.
