Share your goals with loved ones
When you tell your loved ones that you have a goal in mind, you
automatically become more motivated to achieve it. That’s because
someone else is now able to measure your success. The moment you
share your goal with someone else, you immediately become more
accountable.
That’s one more person who’s aware of what you’re trying to
accomplish and will know if you fail. That’s wonderful! Allow him or her
to become a support system for you to make sure you succeed. Since
they know what your goal is, they can periodically check-in on your
progress and help you along the way. This will keep you motivated.

Surround yourself with other
motivated individuals
Spending time with people who inspire you will work wonders for your
motivation. If you’re trying to quit smoking, do you surround yourself
with a bunch of smokers? No. You become friends with non-smokers,
so you’re able to overcome your addiction even faster. This principle
also applies to finding your motivation.
When you spend time with others who have goals and objectives, you
can feed off each others’ energy and passion. It’s simply another level
of support to help you stay on track.

Use others’ successes as inspiration
It can be very easy to see others’ successes as competition. It may
even seem like a great source of motivation. The problem with that
mentality is that, once you begin to fall behind on a goal, you will begin
to feel defeated instead of inspired. When you use negative energy
instead of positive energy as a source of motivation, it will ultimately
work against your success.
That being said, you can still use others’ success to motivate you. Simply
use it as inspiration. If someone completes a goal similar to yours, ask
them for advice. Don’t be afraid to ask questions - you may learn quite
a bit from the answers.

Reward your achievements
Completing a goal, whether it’s large or small, means you’ve achieved
something. You should be proud of that each and every time. Find some
way to celebrate your achievements, so you know that when you
reach your next goal there will be something to look forward to.
By giving yourself a reward after each personal achievement, you’re
training yourself to want to repeat that good behavior. These rewards
work wonders for motivation. It’s the light at the end of each goal’s
tunnel, so to speak. Some tunnels are longer than others, but as long
as you have that glimmer of light to move toward, you’re more likely to
stay on track. After all, positive reinforcement is great for motivation.

Don’t set yourself up for failure
One of the biggest killers of motivation is continually setting goals that
are unrealistic or lack a certain level of passion. When you do this, you
set yourself up for failure, which will cause you to lose motivation over
time. It’s great to set the bar high, but please make sure it’s
something you truly want and can eventually reach.
When you set smaller, more attainable goals, you’re able to reward
yourself several times throughout your journey. This, in turn, will help
you stay motivated and achieve better results.

Pick one goal and start there
It can be intimidating to decide which goal to tackle first. You simply
have to pick one and start there. This strategy will help you find your
motivation and may even inspire you to create new objectives for the
future. It’s better to have to switch gears than wait to begin your
journey to success.
The biggest mistakes you can make are either trying to do too much at
once or not enough. It’s easy to become distracted and lose motivation
when you take on too much. When you focus your energy on one goal
at a time, you’re more likely to succeed.

Stop, recharge, and enjoy life
Life is meant to be lived! It’s wonderful to set a lot of goals, but it can
quickly become exhausting if you never stop to enjoy and reflect on
what you’ve accomplished. Don’t forget to take time out of your busy
schedule to enjoy your life. There’s no point trying to have it all if you
can’t enjoy it.
It’s okay to take a break every now and then. Don’t feel guilty when
you do. Motivation isn’t constant. Sometimes, you will find yourself
lacking the motivation to do something. That’s usually your body’s way
of letting you know it’s time to relax and re-energize. When you’re
ready to reach some more goals, you’ll know.

Learn from your mistakes
Failing to achieve a goal can result in a sudden loss of motivation. Instead
of focusing on the negative or dwelling on what went wrong, learn
from your mistakes. The best way for you to grow and rediscover
your motivation is by learning from your past.
Just because you fail to achieve a goal doesn’t mean you can’t still
accomplish it, and it certainly doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of
achieving it. Setting out to achieve your objectives in the first place
makes you amazing, never mind all the other wonderful qualities about
you! It’s okay to make mistakes, just try to learn from them so you
don’t make the same ones twice.

  • 3. Surround yourself with other motivated individuals Spending time with people who inspire you will work wonders for your motivation. If you’re trying to quit smoking, do you surround yourself with a bunch of smokers? No. You become friends with non-smokers, so you’re able to overcome your addiction even faster. This principle also applies to finding your motivation. When you spend time with others who have goals and objectives, you can feed off each others’ energy and passion.   • 4. Use others’ successes as inspiration It can be very easy to see others’ successes as competition. It may even seem like a great source of motivation. The problem with that mentality is that, once you begin to fall behind on a goal, you will begin to feel defeated instead of inspired. When you use negative energy instead of positive energy as a source of motivation, it will ultimately work against your success. That being said, you can still use others’ success to motivate you. Simply use it as inspiration. If someone completes a goal similar to yours, ask them for advice. Don’t be afraid to ask questions - you may learn quite a bit from the answers. © 2014 Justine J.   • 5. Reward your achievements Completing a goal, whether it’s large or small, means you’ve achieved something. You should be proud of that each and every time. Find some way to celebrate your achievements, so you know that when you reach your next goal there will be something to look forward to. By giving yourself a reward after each personal achievement, you’re training yourself to want to repeat that good behavior. These rewards work wonders for motivation. It’s the light at the end of each goal’s tunnel, so to speak. Some tunnels are longer than others, but as long as you have that glimmer of light to move toward, you’re more likely to stay on track.   • 6. Don’t set yourself up for failure One of the biggest killers of motivation is continually setting goals that are unrealistic or lack a certain level of passion. When you do this, you set yourself up for failure, which will cause you to lose motivation over time. It’s great to set the bar high, but please make sure it’s something you truly want and can eventually reach. When you set smaller, more attainable goals, you’re able to reward yourself several times throughout your journey.   • 7. Pick one goal and start there It can be intimidating to decide which goal to tackle first. You simply have to pick one and start there. This strategy will help you find your motivation and may even inspire you to create new objectives for the future. It’s better to have to switch gears than wait to begin your journey to success. The biggest mistakes you can make are either trying to do too much at once or not enough. It’s easy to become distracted and lose motivation when you take on too much.   • 8. Stop, recharge, and enjoy life Life is meant to be lived! It’s wonderful to set a lot of goals, but it can quickly become exhausting if you never stop to enjoy and reflect on what you’ve accomplished. Don’t forget to take time out of your busy schedule to enjoy your life. There’s no point trying to have it all if you can’t enjoy it. It’s okay to take a break every now and then. Don’t feel guilty when you do. Motivation isn’t constant. Sometimes, you will find yourself lacking the motivation to do something.   • 9. Learn from your mistakes Failing to achieve a goal can result in a sudden loss of motivation. Instead of focusing on the negative or dwelling on what went wrong, learn from your mistakes. The best way for you to grow and rediscover your motivation is by learning from your past. Just because you fail to achieve a goal doesn’t mean you can’t still accomplish it, and it certainly doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of achieving it. Setting out to achieve your objectives in the first place makes you amazing, never mind all the other wonderful qualities about you!
