4 Ways to Use Content Marketing to Get
more customers

Content marketing is a powerful tool for generating customers. A recent survey
carried out by the Content marketing institute (link) in 2014, revealed that most
b2b marketers (83%) use content marketing to generate customers.
Most customers consult more than ten (10) sources of information before they
make buying decisions. This was discovered by ZMOT (Zero moment of Truth) in a
survey of shoppers in 2011.
Successful businesses are creating more content to help their customers make
informed decisions. I bet you don't want to be left behind. Below are ways you
can generate customers using content marketing.
1. Create informational content
As seen in the statistics provided above, customers are looking for valuable
content that provide answers to their problems. You need to write content that
are specifically designed to answer your target audience problems.
2. Create awareness for your products and services
One way you can create awareness for your product and services is by using
Webinars and seminars. These will show your expertise as you offer quality
information needed by your target audience during the research stage of the
buying circle. A good example of a company who uses this method very well is
Kissmetrics. They have a lot of webinars on their page, teaching their prospects
about all that is related to using analytics.
3. Create content that converts prospects to customers
Now, after you have written contents that answer your prospect's questions and
created awareness for your products and services, the next stage is to create
content that will help you convert them into customers. So, how do you do that?
At this stage, your prospects are looking for the right solution to their problem.
This is where you need to create contents that position your product/service as
the best solution that has more value than other solutions the prospect has come
across. There are three best content types you can use for this stage and they are
video demo, case study and white papers. Video demo shows a prospect how the
product/service works and the benefits and features. A good example of this is
the spredfast social media marketing platform. They ask for clients details in
return for a demo of their software. This way, they can set up a demo for the
prospects and at the same time contact them prospects afterwards.
Another content type you can use for this purpose apart from demo video is a
case study. Case studies are good for closing sales because they show that other
people have had success with your solution (product/service). A good example of
a company who uses this well is hubspot. They wrote a lot of case studies of
customers who have used their product and gotten result with it.
The third piece of content that can convert prospects into customers are white
papers. White papers are contents that contain high quality and valuable
information to assist buyers in the decision making process.
4. Create content that will keep your customers
Now, after you have acquired your customer, you don't need to stop in your
content marketing strategy. You still need to create content at this stage to retain
your customers and get referrals from them. The content you need here is called
support documentation. You can create a detailed FAQ about your
product/service for customers to read. Facebook is a good example here. It
provides a detailed help center with relevant pictures for their customers, thereby
reducing the number of customer's complaints they get through a phone call or
email.
In addition to FAQs, you can also create content on best practices. This includes
content that teaches customers how to get the most out of their product or
service. This will help you to increase customer satisfaction.
When you follow the 4 steps enumerated above, you will be on your way to
acquiring a lot of customers. All you need is a good content writer to help you
