9. Vision Zero in Practice
i. Improving the infrastructure
• Speed cameras have been installed on the most dangerous roads
• Specific areas where the speed is limited to 30km/h or 20km/h (school areas,
residential areas or city centers)
• Securing the zebra crossings
• Securing the bicycle lanes
• Securing the particularly dangerous roads and signaling them to the people
9
10. Vision Zero in Practice
ii. Sensitizing people
• regularly new campaigns are launched about behaviour on the roads
• drivers and motorcyclists follow a one day training at the “Centre de
formation pour conducteurs” where they learn about the risks and dangers
which can come up while driving
• sensitizing the most vulnerable participants of the road on being visible
(cyclists, motorcyclists..)
• inform people who are on medication on the consequences while driving
10
11. Vision Zero in Practice
iii. Enforcement
• for drivers who are exceeding the speed limits (loss of 4 or 6 points
depending on the speeding)
• for drivers who drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol
• for drivers who are not wearing their seatbelt, their helmet while on a moto
or using a special child seat for their children
• for drivers using a phone/tablet while driving or disrespecting the safety margin
11
12. Vision Zero in Practice
iv. Others
• avoiding wrong-way drivers
• frequent police checks (speed, use of phones/tablets, alcohol tests, etc..)
• offer diverse alternatives to the car : buses, late night buses, tramways and
trains
• conduct a study about the percentage of drivers using a seatbelt while driving
• improve people’s knowledge of the Code de la Route
