"Perfectly explainable natural phenomena", geologists say abou
t most of Romania's natural wonders. Per haps it is. But Retezat
has 90 species of plants not foundany where in the world and is
best preserved Delta in Europe, while Western is the larg
est karst phenomenon in Europe. And all are found in a single
country. Retezat National Park missed the entry into the natural
wonders of the world, but is a dream destination.
There are over 80 lakes (about 38% of glacial lakes in
Romania) placed on the graniteand formed of
former glaciers, all with a depth of up to
29 meters. Enjoy Lake is the largest glacial lake,
while Zanoaga deep est in
Romania. Bucura Lake Taul is installedat an altitude
of 2,250 meters and many tourists have the impression that if
you look fly. Cut is known for its floral diversity, of the 1,200
species of plants existing in the reserve, 90 can not be seen

3. Retezat Național Park
Story
The Retezat National Park is a protected area located in
the Retezat Mountains in Hunedoara county, Romania.
The Gemenele ("The Twins" in Romanian) scientific
reserve is a strictly protected area of the park enclosing
an intact primeval forest.

Located at 2216 m on the plateau of Bucegi, attractive human
form which nature has carved over time. But nature did not confine
himself only that, if breathed on it and a bit of
personality. Well positioned, with a look rough, it gives the
impression that oversees those lands.

Strange and interesting Old Woman attract tourists because
of the ir unique shape. Hags have the appearance of giant
mushrooms, but maybe in about 300 years our
descendants will be able to distinguish the silhouettes of la
dies. Over time, around the Sphinx and the Old Woman
were weav ing legends and have turned tens of
mythological theories, funny or just funny. Some say that it
wo be natural, but modeled

The Wooden Churches of Maramureș in the Maramureș region of
northern Transylvania are a group of almost one hundred
Orthodox churches, and occasionally Greek-Catholic ones, of
different architectural solutions from different periods and
areas.The Maramureș churches are high timber constructions with
characteristic tall, slim bell towers at the western end of the
building. They are a particular vernacular expression of the
cultural landscape of this mountainous area of northern Romania.

The only lake in the world that changes color depending on the
light is just 45 minutes from the town of Baia Sprie, near Baia
Mare.
Because leaching of sulfur compounds, water is green,
sometimes with hints of emerald, several shades of blue and
turquoise.

13. Merry Cemetery in Săpânța
Story
The Merry Cemetery is a cemetery in the village of Săpânța,
Maramureş county, Romania. It is famous for its colourful
tombstones with naïve paintings describing, in an original and
poetic manner, the persons who are buried there as well as
scenes from their lives. The Merry Cemetery became an open-
air museum and a national tourist attraction.
14. Danube Delta
Story
An exotic, with over 1200 species of trees and plants, with the
richest ornithological fauna and of fish, the Danube Delta is the
largest wetlands reserve in Europe, covering over 2500 km2. In
1991, UNESCO included the Danube Delta, the newest form of
relief in Romania, protected by "the progress
of industrialization", including biosphere
reserves. Delta area increased annually by 40 feet by the
deposit of 60 million tons of sediment to the river.
16. About Sighișoara
Story
Sighișoara is probably the best preserved fortified town in
Transylvania, being built by the Saxons between the 12th and the
17th centuries. It is located on the Tarnava Mare river in a
picturesque setting. The citadel, a beautifully preserved medieval
complex, dominates the town with its hilltop setting. The old town
enclosed within the citadel walls has narrow cobblestone streets
and brightly painted 16th century Saxon houses.
19. Gura Portiţei
Story
Gura Portiţei is located on a narrow strip of sand between the Black
Sea and Lake Goloviţa in the Danube Delta.
Originally a fishing village, Portiţei (port) is known today as one of
the most remote (and quiet) Romanian tourist destinations on the
coast, an alternative to Vama Veche, became too popular and
crowded in recent years. Access is usually by boat from Jurilovca,
Tulcea; with special vehicles and can be reached on the coastal road
or from Vadu, Constanta, on the Periboina or from St. George,
Tulcea.

23. Mud VolcanoesMud Volcanoes: Lava Black
Story
Type geological nature reserve lying on 30 hectares,
mud volcanoes are located in the Curvature Sub Carpathians
(Buzau) formations have occurred because of out breaks of
gas to the surface of the earth which causes mud and
water. The area is known asthemist, but similar processes oc
cur within them as in real volcanoes. Cones do not exceed 6 -
5 meters high, and so-called lava is thrown over a small area.

25. Fortress of Ponor
Story
The Fortress of Ponor is, undoubtfully, the Romania's most
grandiose karstic formation, known and praised worlwide. To
begin with, we have to mention that visiting tourists are astonished
by the wonderful work of nature who, hereabouts, went beyond all
expectations creating a huge stone fortress. The Fortress of Ponor
consists of three big stone circles which lie in a huge afforested
depression of 300 m deep and more than 1 km in diametre at its
upper level. The surrounding mountain wreath which closes the
depression is cut just in a single place by the The Fortress Valley
Canyon.
The Fortress of Ponor has been declared natural reservation since
1952 and after that obtained the status of natural monument, being
in custody of the Romanian Academy.
28. About Sibiu
Story
Sibiu was the European Capital of Culture in 2007, together with
Luxemburg, being the first city in South-Eastern Europe to receive
this title. Even before Romania adhered to the European Union, Sibiu
was already being acknowledged as having a European character,
from the point of view of its infrastructure, due to the fact that it is a
cultural location and because of its European spirit.

31. Story
As one of the most spectacular roads in the world, the
Transfagarasan is definitely a must-see for any tourists crossing
the Romanian border. This exquisite mountain road measures
93 miles, and it required 4 years to build between 1970 and
1974 during the reign of Nicolae Ceausescu. Over 20 tons of
dynamite was used to dislocate 3 million tons of rock during the
construction process. As with almost any major architectural
undertaking, it is said that many workers actually lost their
lives while building the road.
