2. History
• October 2000 – First Blu Ray prototypes were
unveiled in CEATEC exhibition by Sony
• February 2002 – Blu Ray disc project was officially
announced
• April 2003 – first prototype player was released in
Japan
• 2004 – Blu Ray disc physical specs were completed
• June 2006 – Blu Ray was officially released

Blu Ray ( Blu Ray Disc)
• is an optical disc storage medium designed to
supersede the DVD format
• It enables recording, rewriting and playback of
high definition videos
• storing large amount of data
4. Why the name Blu Ray?
• The name is a combination of the word “
Blue” and “Ray”
• “Blu Ray” is not a mistake with the
character “e”

• which consist of almost more than 180 member

6. Capacity
• A single layer disc can hold 25GB
• A double layer disc can hold 50GB
Recording Length
• 9 hours of high-definition video on a 50GB disc
• 23 hours of standard-definition video on a
50GB disc
7. Blue Laser
• It emits an electromagnetic radiation at a
wavelength of between 360 and 440
nanometers.
• Lasers emitting wavelengths below 445 nm
appear violet to the human eye
• Class of Blue Lasers are frequently
semiconductor laser diodes based on Gallium
Nitride.

• A Blu Ray disc consist of 405 nm which is
shorter than the DVD which is 650 nm.
