The concept is basic, but the process and interpretation can be quite complex. There are many different methods of exploring eye data.The most common is to analyze the visual path of one or more participants across an interface such as a computer screen. Each eye data observation is translated into a set of pixel coordinates.

With an increasing number of computer devices around us, and the increasing time we spend for interacting with such devices, we are vehemently motivated in finding new interaction methods which ease the use of computers or increase interaction efficiency. Eye tracking seems to be a promising technology to achieve this goal. This paper researches interaction methods based on eye gaze tracking technology with emphasis in PIN entry. Personal identification numbers (PINs) are one of the most common ways of electronic authentication these days and they are used in a wide variety of applications. The PIN-entry user study used three different gaze-based techniques for PIN entry. The first and second method used gaze pointing to enter the PIN on a number pad displayed on the screen. The first method used a dwell time of 800 milliseconds and the second method used a button, which had to be pressed when looking at the correct number on the number pad display. The second method was introduced as hardware key or gaze key, but called look & shoot method in the context of the user study as this name is self-explaining and got high acceptance by the participants. The third method used gaze gestures to enter the digits. The use of gaze gestures protects accidental input of wrong digits.

The diopter is the unit of measurement for the refractive power of a lens. Myopia is a form of refractive error which is a leading cause of visual disability throughout the world. The prevailing treatment of refractive errors which are commonly used in daily life are glasses and contact lenses. Although those methods can overcome myopia, many myopia patients still don’t really know how to measure their current refractive error in diopter. This condition may retard the progression of refractive treatment in the myopic individual. The common methods to measure refractive error are phoropter with Snellen chart and retinoscopy, but those expensive tools need expertise to operate. This paper presents the concept of measure the face to smartphone screen distance to provide the possibility to implement a mobile application as a low-cost alternative refractive measurement tool. The main objective is to investigate the feasibility of mobile application to help patients with myopia measuring their blur line distances and evaluate their diopter levels independently. The experimental results reveal that, with 80.5 usability score the overall functionality of proposed application can be categorized as usable to users and feasible for future implementation.

Eye gaze interaction for disabled people is often dealt with by designing ad-hoc interfaces, in which the big size of their elements compensates for both the inaccuracy of eye trackers and the instability of the human eye. Unless solutions for reliable eye cursor control are employed, gaze pointing in ordinary graphical operating environments is a very difficult task. In this paper we present an eye-driven cursor for MS Windows which behaves differently according to the “context”. When the user’s gaze is perceived within the desktop or a folder, the cursor can be discretely shifted from one icon to another. Within an application window or where there are no icons, on the contrary, the cursor can be continuously and precisely moved. Shifts in the four directions (up, down, left, right) occur through dedicated buttons. To increase user awareness of the currently pointed spot on the screen while continuously moving the cursor, a replica of the spot is provided within the active direction button, resulting in improved pointing performance.

IRJET Journal

We developed a new concept to improve the efficiency of visual analysis through visual recommendations. It uses a novel eye-gaze based recommendation model that aids users in identifying interesting time-series patterns. Our model combines time-series features and eye-gaze interests, captured via an eye-tracker. Mouse selections are also considered. The system provides an overlay visualization with recommended patterns, and an eye-history graph, that supports the users in the data exploration process. We conducted an experiment with 5 tasks where 30 participants explored sensor data of a wind turbine. This work presents results on pre-attentive features, and discusses the precision/recall of our model in comparison to final selections made by users. Our model helps users to efficiently identify interesting time-series patterns.
