1. WHAT IS CHLAMYDIA?
A bacterial sexually transmitting infection (STI).
HOW DO YOU GET CHLAMYDIA?
During vaginal, anal, or oral sex.
SYMPTOMS:
No symptoms for most. For others, 1‐3 weeks after initial
infection.
SYMPTOMS IN WOMEN: abnormal vaginal discharge,
burning sensation when urinating, abdominal pain, low back
pain, nausea, fever, pain during intercourse, and bleeding
between menstrual periods.
SYMPTOMS IN MEN: discharge or itching from opening of
penis, a burning sensation while urinating. Pain and swelling
in testicles is also an uncommon symptom.
DIAGNOSIS:
A urine test or sample from the infected area.
TREATMENT:
Antibiotics. All sexual partners should be evaluated, tested,
and treated.
PREVENTION:
Use of condoms during sex. Abstinence.
