Hello and welcome to the second annual US
Ignite Application Summit!
We are excited to have you here to see and share the progress our
community has made in the development and deployment of next-
generation applications.
Over the past year, our community has made great strides toward our
goal of 60 transformative apps and 200 community testbeds, and we
could not have done it without you. We know the best way to learn about
the impact of next-generation technologies is to spend time with the
people who are actually working with them. This Application Summit
provides a unique opportunity to learn and share with our peers.
Over the next few days, we will have the opportunity to experience these
next-generation applications firsthand, attend hands-on workshops, and
hear from leaders in our community such as the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC), the National Science Foundation (NSF), Orange
Silicon Valley, Google, ON.Lab, and more.
Please blog and tweet while at the Application Summit and mention
#appsummit14 and @US_Ignite so that others can learn about our
community. Throughout the summit, I ask you to stay engaged, add new
ideas and help us shape the future of advanced networks to transform
how we live, work, learn and play.
Finally, a big thank you to our partner Juniper Networks for hosting the
Application Summit at the Juniper Aspiration Dome! We are very excited
to be here and look forward to the next few days together.
Onward to the next-generation,
Bill Wallace

Big Data at the Edge:
Moving Big Data to and from the End User
THRIVE: Timely Health Indicators using Remote sensing &
Innovation for the Vitality of the Environment
Prevention is better than a cure, so a timely alert could preclude
a trip to the ER for the 25 Million Americans who have Asthma.
This technology could benefit all people with environmentally
triggered health conditions and supply forecasts for ER and walk
in clinic managers. David Lary, University of Texas at Dallas and York
Eggleston, Machine Data Learning.
Cyber Security as a Service
Law enforcement can adopt this technology to essentially walk
into a search warrant anywhere there is a gig connection and
have a remote expert preview / capture data from the machine
in question. Imagine having a “Forensic Operations Center” for
local/state/federal law enforcement staffed with experts who
can respond to multiple agencies at a given moment. Jonathan
Rajewski, Champlain College.
Looking for a Needle in the Video Haystack
As the fastest-growing type of content on the Internet, consumer-
produced videos are a wealth of information about the world
that’s essentially untapped. We present ICSI’s research on large-
scale video search methods using an application that reveals the
geo-location of a consumer-produced video based on its content.
Gerald Friedland, University of California, Berkeley.

  • 1. JUNIPER ASPIRATION DOME • SILICON VALLEY, CA JUNE 24-27, 2014
  • 2. TO LEARN MORE, VISIT US-IGNITE.ORG US_IGNITE FACEBOOK.COM/USIGNITE2 Hello and welcome to the second annual US Ignite Application Summit! We are excited to have you here to see and share the progress our community has made in the development and deployment of next- generation applications. Over the past year, our community has made great strides toward our goal of 60 transformative apps and 200 community testbeds, and we could not have done it without you. We know the best way to learn about the impact of next-generation technologies is to spend time with the people who are actually working with them. This Application Summit provides a unique opportunity to learn and share with our peers. Over the next few days, we will have the opportunity to experience these next-generation applications firsthand, attend hands-on workshops, and hear from leaders in our community such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the National Science Foundation (NSF), Orange Silicon Valley, Google, ON.Lab, and more. Please blog and tweet while at the Application Summit and mention #appsummit14 and @US_Ignite so that others can learn about our community. Throughout the summit, I ask you to stay engaged, add new ideas and help us shape the future of advanced networks to transform how we live, work, learn and play. Finally, a big thank you to our partner Juniper Networks for hosting the Application Summit at the Juniper Aspiration Dome! We are very excited to be here and look forward to the next few days together.
