The talk tries to explore the context-aware design approach as well as user-centered design, and how we should stop thinking in terms of universal solutions, why responsive design sometimes is actually not such a good idea, and why it's important to validate pretty much everything before applying anything new.
8. Responsive design was listed as
#2 in Top Web Design Trends for 2012
by .net magazine
9. Mashable called
2013 the Year of Responsive Web Design
Many other sources have recommended responsive design as a
cost-effective alternative to mobile applications.
10. In 2013 Forbes urged everyone
“The time to get responsive with your
web design is now”

18. Rather than tailoring disconnected designs to each of an ever-
increasing number of web devices, we can treat them as facets of the
same experience. We can design for an optimal viewing experience,
but embed standards-based technologies into our designs to make
them not only more flexible, but more adaptive to the media that
renders them. In short, we need to practice responsive web design.

19. Through a combination of embedded robotics and tensile materials, architects
are experimenting with art installations and wall structures that bend, flex, and
expand as crowds approach them. Motion sensors can be paired with climate
control systems to adjust a room’s temperature and ambient lighting as it fills
with people. Companies have already produced “smart glass technology” that
can automatically become opaque when a room’s occupants reach a certain
density threshold, giving them an additional layer of privacy.

69. Quick Recap
• Responsive Web Design is great, but it’s not a silver bullet
• Don’t stop thinking of ways to serve your users better; sometimes custom
mobile experience is better than ‘generic’ responsiveness
• Don’t forget that you design for user, not for device
• Design not only for user and task, but also for context
• Context-Aware Design can greatly enrich mobile experience
• Understand user’s context by getting data from ‘sensors’ and change
application modes accordingly
• Stay creative, there are no universal solutions
