3. Natural Disasters
Natural disasters are catastrophic events with atmospheric, geological, and hydrological
origins (e.g., droughts, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, landslides) that can cause fatalities,
property damage and social environmental disruption
4. Earthquakes
Earthquake, any sudden shaking of the ground
caused by the passage of seismic waves through
Earth’s rocks. Seismic waves are produced when
some form of energy stored in
Causes of Earthquakes-
● Induced Earthquakes. Induced quakes are
caused by human activity, like tunnel
construction, filling reservoirs and
implementing geothermal or fracking projects.
● Volcanic Earthquakes. Volcanic quakes are
associated with active volcanism. ...
● Collapse Earthquakes.
Prevention-
● Find a safe place to hide.
● Stay away from outer walls, windows, fireplaces,
and hanging objects.
● Go in an open area.
5. Floods
A flood is an overflow of water that submerges
land that is usually dry. In the sense of "flowing
water", the word may also be applied to the inflow
of the tide.
Causes of Floods
● Overflowing of the Rivers
● Collapsed Dams
● Snowmelt
● Deforestation
● Climate change.
HOW TO FACE IT ??
Find safe shelter right away. Do not walk,
swim or drive through flood waters.
6. Tornado
A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that is in
contact with both the surface of the Earth and cloud.
Causes
Tornadoes form when warm, humid air collides with
cold, dry air. The denser cold air is pushed over the
warm air, usually producing thunderstorms.
Prevention
● Tornado safety tips
● Go to the basement and take shelter in
a small interior room.
● If you don't have a basement, take
shelter in an interior room on the
ground floor, like a bathroom, closet or
hallway.
● Stay away from windows, doors and
exterior walls.
7. Drought
Drought is a prolonged dry period in the natural
climate cycle that can occur anywhere in the
world.
Causes
Droughts are caused by low precipitation over an
extended period of time. Atmospheric conditions
such as climate change, ocean temperatures,
Prevention
Being mindful of the amount of water you use each
day can be a powerful way to prevent droughts.
Turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth,
watering your garden early in the morning so less
water evaporates, and installing low-flow plumbing
fixtures all are good ways to prevent wasted water.
8. Man-Made Disasters
Man-made disasters are the consequence of technological or human hazards. These
hazards can include stampedes, fires, transport accidents, industrial accidents, oil spills,
terrorist attacks, nuclear explosions/nuclear radiation.
9. Terrorism
Terrorism, the calculated use of violence to
create a general climate of fear in a population
and thereby to bring about a particular
political objective. Terrorism has been
practiced by political organizations with both
rightist and leftist objectives, by nationalistic
and religious groups, by revolutionaries, and
even by state institutions such as armies,
intelligence services, and police.
10. Cyber Attacks
A cyber attack is an assault launched by
cybercriminals using one or more computers
against a single or multiple computers or networks.
A cyber attack can maliciously disable computers, steal
data, or use a breached computer as a launch point for
other attacks.
Protection against cyber attacks
● Choose strong passwords and don't reuse them
for multiple logins.
● Install security software such as anti-virus and
two-factor authentication.
Stay Smart, Stay Safe
11. Nuclear Attacks
A nuclear weapon (also known as an atom bomb, atomic
bomb, nuclear bomb or nuclear warhead, and colloquially
as an A-bomb or nuke) is an explosive device that
derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions,
either fission (fission bomb) or a combination of
fission and fusion reactions (thermonuclear bomb).
