3. Trying to decipher the meaning of a place,
a building is like transcending throught time
each period with its own landmarks, rite and
a speci c way of nding meaning.
Each period had its ideas that traversed
throught time and became altered beyond
recognition and now we see them as
contemorary, but some built form strive that
test.
The stepping stone of an ancient gate that
stood in the open for centuries de nes the
human of the past and offers us a glimpse in
the history of our making.
To see this is to gaze through time and to
imagine an environment so different to our
own that we cannot imagine it fully. This
offers us a glimpse that reconnects us to
our own human nature and gives us a soft
and pleasent hope of continuity.
The gate that stood there majestic and
heavy that impressed so many men and
women who crossed its path, the forti ed
walls ready for battle de ning a space made
for con nement, protecting the inhabitants
from the unknown forces of a magical world,
used to de ne human being with a skill set
so different from mine that it amazes me
that we are the same species.
Thus we nd in every built environment,
landmarks, places, a gure of the past that
helps us understand our own human being
and guides us to strive forward for a better
future.

Summer outdoor terrace
The project started after the client requested an
extension of the hotel and restaurant creating a summer
cooling spot without the use of an umbrella and designing a
terrace that is either close or open to the surroundings.
Also, another request was to design with basic materials
and preferably low cost.
The former converted parking lot had a closed box setting
with strict boundaries in all directions, leaving the sky the
only window into the surroundings.
The approach is based on the classic structural wooden
frame that is sequentially opened and closed giving rythm
and enhancing the crossing of the space.
10. Building extension
Proposed extension plan
Existing plan
Realizing an extension of an existing of ce
building that has a box shape, resembling
the extrusion of a straight plane.
The client approached us to design the
extension with a speci c requirement to
design the building that resembles a
modern construction with the minimum
intervention.
After seeing the building, we concluded that
it resembles a modernistic approach
without the proportions and the lines that
modernism is famous for.
Integrating an asymmetric layout of the
windows that indicates a more dynamic
movement and by adding a cantilever
appendix, the building shifts from being
static to dynamically interact with the
modern context.

Coffee table
The table was made to answer the
requirements imposed by the client to
design and built a modernist table.
After summarizing the approach, we
concludet on several key characteristics
from the modernistic movement and
incorporated them into the design.
First, we decided on the structural
framework based on speci c dynamic
proportions integrated to highlight the
dynamic of movement speci c to
modernism. Secondly, we created a large
span opening for the glass to create a
oating sensation and thus creating a
contradiction between massivity and
lightness.

20. Redeveloping industrial sites
Suroundings
The project integrates in the urban fabric
of the former industrial zone Vidra, creating
a functional mix near the central area of the
city.
This approach forms near the historic
center a modern counterpoint that
manages to integrate and enhance the
historic center value and in uence the city
as a whole.
The functions covered by the new
neighborhood complements the existing
historic area, thus integrating diversity and
movement.
Parceling individual homes is based on the
concept of sharing individual space for
mutual bene t.
The identity of the former industrial area is
kept by transforming the processing hall
into spaces for leasing and the cooling pool
that is transformed into a weather stream
that generates a walking vector and a
pleasant human natural interaction .
22. Public space
Dynamic transit zone
Dynamic Sport zone
Agrarian greens space
Individual housing
Unused green space
Urban fabric Urban housing lot Urban redistribution
Historic urban fabric Conceptualized urban fabric Reinterpreted urban fabric
Urban migration
Conceptual framework
Urban Re-cycling - Strategy for
reorienting the urban development
towards the urban center of the city, to
facilitate the concentration of different
activities in the closed proximity of the
main historic center
Enmeshing - Recognizing the
urban space fabric of the existing city
based on some precise spatial rules of
enclosure, positioning and relating to
the environment and transforming it
into a geometric pattern that will relate
with the existing fabric creating a link in
the memory o the inhabitants.
Re-urbanizing - Every city and
every society has a public space
related with the way of living of the
inhabitants. Re-urbanizing of the city
makes possible the introduction of new
ways to use the space and instead they
transform the way of living of the
inhabitants of the neighborhoods and
social interaction among them.
Programs that work best are those
that integrate social diversity.
Sharing - Use the physical principles
that govern the sharing of resources in
the digital domain, creating a
succession of spaces between private
and public spaces in the proximity.
32. Temporary restaurant
The temporary restaurants focus is
placed on enhancing the surrounding nature
and urban history.
Creating an interaction with the surrounding
context by adding transparency using glass
and directing the attention on the outside
rather than on the inside.
Nature and the context is also highlighted
by placing a tree in the center of the transit
zone, thus emphasizing a green element
that is the main focus and a concentric
point of the whole assembly. This highlights
the natural element by integrating it in an
arti cial men made environment.
36. Hotel reception design
