The female reproductive system consists of internal and external organs that work together to produce eggs, facilitate fertilization and pregnancy, and nourish infants. The internal organs include the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and vagina. The ovaries produce eggs and hormones, the fallopian tubes transport eggs to the uterus, the uterus houses and nourishes the developing fetus, and the vagina is the birth canal. Externally, breasts produce milk via lactation to feed newborns. The system ensures human reproduction and survival of offspring.
