Albanian Economy
Under the IPA, Albania was expected to receive €81.2 million during
2009, €93.2 million during 2010, €95.0 million during 2011 and €96.9
million during 2012.
Despite the global economic turmoil of 2008, Albania's economic
growth was in line with initial forecasts of 6% while inflation remained
within the 2-4% target band of the Bank of Albania.
Albania was one of only two countries in Europe that recorded
economic growth in the first quarter of 2009, growing by 0.4%.
Albania's Telecom industry has been liberalized.

Business Environment: (Legislation & Operator developments)
Vodafone was established as a first and only operator in the year 1998.
(No of subscribers for the year 2009: 1.150.000).
AMC entered the market in the year 2001 as a second operator (No of
subscribers for the year 2009: 1.350.000).
The Turkish Group Calik, penetrated the mobile communications market in
the country of Albania, in February of 2008, through the Operator Eagle of
Albtelecom which is the local landline. (Eagle’s Subscribers in 2009 :
350,000)
An additional 4th
Operator was given license in 2009. It is the subsidiary of
PTK form Kosovo and is consisted of a Group of Albanian businessmen
under the Mgt of the Kosovo Operator.

Forums in Albania
The fourth forum of the Greek-Albanian economic relations,
entitled "Challenges & Perspectives 2010", took place in
Tirana, with Albanian Deputy PM and Minister of Economy,
Trade & Energy Ilir Meta giving the keynote address
The forum was attended by several Albanian ministers and
Albanian as well as Greek entrepreneurs were scheduled to
participate.
