Victory Day Remembrance Day
W ICKED A TROCIOUS R EPULSIVE
The history has recorded many wars but none of them as abominable as the two world wars which caused so much disaster. People who delivered us of the fascist nightmare deserve to be remembered and celebrated at least one day in the year. They sacrificed their lives so that we live in peace.
And the world hasn’t forgotten what they did!!! The Western Europe and North America remember them on November 11 The Eastern Europe celebrates them on May 9 Remembrance Day Victory Day
In November, near the end of the year, people remember. On 11 November 1918, the First World 'War came to an end, and l1 November has become Remembrance Day. An Australian man, Edward George Honey, wrote to the London Evening News in 1919. In his letter he expressed his wish to have a day in the year when people will stop and think of the soldiers who died in the war. King George the Fifth saw the letter and agreed, so he asked everyone to stop working and remember the dead. Common British, Canadian, South African, and ANZAC traditions include two minutes of silence at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month (11:00 am, 11 November), as that marks the time (in the United Kingdom) when armistice became effective. HISTORY
HISTORY The Victory Day or May 9 marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the Second World War (also known as the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union and some post-Soviet states). It was first inaugurated in the fifteen republics of the Soviet Union, following the signing of the surrender document late in the evening on May 8, 1945 (May 9 by Moscow Time). It happened after the original capitulation that Germany earlier agreed to the joint Allied forces of the Western Front. The Soviet government announced the victory early on May 9 after the signing ceremony in Berlin. Though the official inauguration happened in 1945 (which means it has been celebrated since 1946), the holiday became a non-labour day only in 1965 and only in some of the countries.
CELEBRATION The traditionally ceremonial military parades are held on the day, such as the one in Moscow on the Red Square In towns and cities soldiers young and old walk together in parades to remember the soldiers who died in all the different wars. There are church services and special music, and at the war memorials, which have the names of dead soldiers on them, people put flowers. In London, the Queen and the Prime Minister put flowers on the big war memorial called the Centopath.
SYMBOLS At this time of the year many people wear red paper flowers called poppies. Why? During the First World War, hundreds of thousands of soldiers died on the fields of Flanders, Luxemburg, in Belgium. Later, thousands of poppies grew in the same fields. The beautiful red flowers were the colour of blood. When people buy the paper poppies today, the money helps old soldiers and their families. Ribbon of Saint George, colloquially known as "George's Ribbon" ( Георгиевская лента ): originally associated with the Order of St. George of the Russian Empire, it was reintroduced in the Soviet Union for the Medal For the Victory Over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.
MUSIC “ Victory Day” is the official song of the celebration of this holiday. The song can be heard from every radio station and it is sung at the concerts held on this day. “ Remembrance Day” is the song written by Bryan Adams especially for this occasion. It commemorates the soldiers who took part in the First World War and who died defending their countries.
REMEMBRANCE DAY For our king and our country and the promise of glory We came from Kingston and Brighton to fight on the front line Just lads from the farms and boys from the cities Not meant to be soldiers we lay in the trenches We'd face the fighting with a smile - or so we said If only we had known what danger lay ahead The sky turned to grey as we went into battle On the fields of Europe young men were fallin' I'll be back for you someday - it won't be long If I can just hold on 'til this bloody war is over The guns will be silent on Remembrance Day There'll be no more fighting on Remembrance Day By October of 18 Cambrai had fallen Soon the war would be over and we'd be returnin' Don't forget me while I'm gone far away Well it won't be long 'till I'm back there in your arms again One day soon - I don't know when You know we'll all be free and the bells of peace will ring again The time will come for you and me We'll be goin' home when this bloody war is ended The guns will be silent on Remembrance Day We'll all say a prayer on Remembrance Day On Remembrance Day - say a little prayer On Remembrance Day Well the guns will be silent There'll be no more fighting Oh we'll lay down our weapons On Remembrance Day
WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!!
