- This workshop is meant for a relaxed time to reflect, rest and look at the Personal and Social Core Competency. This is a reflective journey anf
- We have three Core Competencies: Communication and Thinking are the first on the list. These are naturally ingrained in us. We “know” how to do these. But then comes along Personal and Social. What is it and what do we do with this? The core competencies are described by the Ministry as “sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning.” In some respects, these are similar to the Social Responsibility Performance Standards that have been in use for the past 15 years.
- Going into the factual information about the past schooling systems and where we come from would take weeks, months and possibly years to fully elaborate on, however it is important to reflect on where we have come from. But think about it. Factories, Plantations, Child Labor, Business Mindsets, a world without information at our finger tips – one where you have to pull open that huge encyclopedia.
- Going deep and hitting the heart is important. We will journey in the next couple hours down a road that is reflective, encouraging and empowering. We are teachers and over the years of teaching our new curriculum gives us the power to connect with the Core Competencies. There are three: Communication, Thinking (Creative and Critical) and Personal and Social (Positive Personal and Cultural Identity; Personal Awareness and Responsibility; and Social Responsibility). With the focus on the last.

Meaning the mother is the one that is representing connectivity, whereas the Father is representing control. When do we choose control over connectivity?
