2. •Preached baptism of repentance of forgiveness of sins
•Isaiah prophesied about him as the one who was preparing
the way for the Lord
•Was very fearless and direct in his speech
•Was filled with the Holy Spirit from the time of birth-
presence of the Lord with him
•Lived in the wilderness seeking God, crowds came to him
•John 3:30- He(JESUS) must become greater, I must
become less
3. When we are on fire for Christ we are not
worried about what people think but what is
right in the Lord’s sight.
When we are ready to act for God, His
presence is with us and He will help us.
4. •Simon (renamed as PETER by Jesus) and brother Andrew were fishermen
who left their nets and followed Jesus immediately when called
•Was very impulsive, loyal, one whom Jesus commissioned to build His
church on, repenting
•On the day of the Pentecost when the disciples received the Holy Spirit
the same peter who had denied Jesus out of fear now boldly stood up in
front of the crowd and declared Jesus as Messiah. God’s presence in form
of Holy Spirit made him an unstoppable witness for Christ
•Faced many persecutions(flogged and imprisoned) but yet did not lose
his passion for Christ
•Tradition has it that Peter requested to be crucified upside down to make
amends for the time he had denied Jesus-died a hero’s death!
5. The presence of the Holy Spirit emboldens
us.
We can be a light of the world , especially in
times of challenges, when we respond
without losing our passion for Christ
6. •The First MARTYR
•Acts 6:8- describes him as “a man full of God’s grace and
power”, performed great wonders and signs among people
• Opposition could not stand against Stephen in any arguments
because of wisdom given by the Holy Spirit
•The Sanhedrin had Stephen stoned to death
•He saw the heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the
right hand of God – asked God to forgive them.(Acts 7:60)
7. Stephen’s life shows us that the Holy Spirit
gives us the wisdom to face challenges.
Jesus asked God to forgive those who
crucified Him…so did Stephen. We are on fire
for Christ when we also can forgive others
unconditionally.
8. •Saul was a Roman citizen, trained rabbi was trained by Gamaliel
•Saul persecuted the early christians in his zeal to follow the law
•Saul became Paul when he was called by Jesus in a blinding vision on his
way to Damascus
•After his conversion on his return to Jerusalem he was very lonely because
everyone eyed him with suspicion till Barnabas befriended him and
introduced him to the apostles
•Was imprisoned several times, mercilessly beaten – all this only
strengthened his faith and he witnessed Jesus with greater zeal
•There was no turning back as far as Paul is concerned
•Wrote several books like Romans, Ephesians, Galations and several epistles
9. Every challenge we face with God, he
strengthens our faith in Him
Like Paul, when we truly repent of our sins we
recognize the mercy God has shown us and
so we will be on fire to take this love and
mercy of Christ to others- just like us
10. •Priscillla and Aquila are described in the NewTestament as
providing a presence that strengthened the early Christian
churches
•Credited with instructing Apollos, a major evangelist
•Among the earliest known Christian missionaries in the first
century
•They were part of a group of Jews whom the Emperor
Claudias expelled from Rome
•In the book of Romans Paul refers to them risking their lives
to save his
11. Fire for Christ helps us to share with others-
who knows maybe God can use us to reach
many?
12. So my summary on doing this shows basically that
if we are on fire for Christ we will definitely face
tough times and also persecution in many different
ways which we may not even realize. Doesn’t
mean that we become weak and just leave it all to
God without us doing anything about it. God will
always be there and we should all not be afraid of
persecution because then we can affirm our
salvation in Christ.
