This show is intended to be used to catch the interest of grade five students as we begin a new inquiry project.

1. Human Rights Inquiry -How do human rights relate to areas of the curriculum you have studied this year? -How are the isms exemplified or not by government policy, ancient civilizations, access to and conservation of water and energy, animal rights, environmental concerns and issues related to the human body including health care, diet, disease, substance abuse, transplants, mortality rates and so forth?) -As you look at these slides, consider the issues you are most interested in? 2. Since ancient times how have rights changed for children, women, the poor? -e.g. child labor, child marriage, schooling,…

3. Have women's rights improved? Do they have rights? Do they have access to an education?

4. How does racism affect human rights? Did racism exist in Ancient times? Does racism affect access to health care?

5. What human right does this photo make you wonder about?

6. How are your basic human rights affected if you are poor and homeless?

7. What if there isn't enough food?

8. What about having enough water or better yet, enough clean water?

9. Canada has a health care system. Should all countries? Is health care a human right or should you have to pay for health care?

10. What rights do the disabled have? What are their health care needs? Is a wheelchair a basic human right if you cannot walk?

11. Hopefully we will all grow to a great, old age! What rights do the elderly have? What is elder abuse?

12. What human rights are lost when your country is at war?

13. Do animals have rights? What about the rights of the poachers who need food or money from the tusks to survive?

14. What about the right to survive? Polar bears are endangered – their habitat is disappearing…

15. Do we have the right to clean air? Do workers have the right to a safe and healthy workplace?

16. Do we have the right to transplant organs from one human or animal to another? Is there a limit to what and how many organs can be replaced? What about cloning?

17. Are her rights being abused? Does your opinion change when you find out she's in a drug rehabilitation clinic?

18. Do we have the right to choose our government and protest if we don't like what's going on?

19. Slavery has been around since ancient times. Do people have the right to own another person? Can they sell them or their body parts?
