It then discussed the new Single Sign-On and bulk user import features in the latest VT Docs 3.2 release. Upcoming improvements include enhanced PDF parsing to better identify document structure, redesigning reports for clearer layout, and a new usage report. The webinar concluded with an announcement of future virtual sessions and a Q&A.

• SSO lets users sign in once using their company login screen (e.g. MS Active Directory) to gain
access to multiple systems and service providers, including VT Docs.
How does this benefit VT Docs users ?
• it’s one less credential/password that users need to remember & manage
• SSO provides easier, seamless access to VisibleThread Docs.
How does your organization benefit ?
• centralized management & audit of users and authentication,
• you get standardized authentication requirements e.g. password complexity, 2-factor
authentication
• SSO helps meet many compliance requirements

What happens for VT Docs users when SSO is enabled ?
• In your browser, go to the normal URL for your on-prem VT Docs e.g. https://vtdocs.acme.com
• Assuming you have an existing VT Docs username and are already signed in to your organization login,
then you will automatically gain access to your VT Docs account without having to provide a
username/password
• Assuming you have an existing VT Docs username and are NOT already signed in to your organization
login, then you will first be redirected to your organization login and (once successful) on to VT Docs

Now you can import a list of users via CSV file, optionally including roles/permissions.

Parsing PDFs is technically tricky – Why ?
• The PDF format’s primary design goal is accurate display/printing on any device
• PDFs do not retain the logical structure used in the source tool e.g. MS Word
• The PDF format is basically a stream of text & images with absolute output coordinates and little or no
structure, hierarchy or relationships

How can we improve PDF Parsing ?
The short answer is to use heuristics to indicate that a line is a new paragraph, for example :
1. is whitespace above > previous line height * 1.5 ?
2. is previous line whitespace to the right (including a margin estimate) > width of first word current line ?
3. does the font face, weight or height change from the end of the previous line to the start of the current line ?
