Single Rack
Multi-Rack
• The most common network
topology for VCF on VxRail will
follow a standard spine-leaf
architecture
• Decisions need to be made on
where the VLANs from VCF
workload domains will
terminate in the supporting
physical network layer
• Decisions must also be made
for the layer2/layer 3 boundary
in multi-rack deployments of
VCF on VxRail

VxRail Flexible VDS and physical NIC configurations
More flexibility and choice for VCF on VxRail network configuration
• Support for one or two system virtual distributed switches (vDS)
• Min. 4 physical NICs (pNICs) required
• Enables more flexibility of network configuration and separation of
network traffic:
• Dedicated network fabric for vSAN
• vSAN on dedicated pNICs and a dedicated vDS
• Management and NSX-T traffic on one vDS, vSAN, and
vMotion on a second vDS, etc.
• VCF uses a system vDS for NSX-T traffic (by default) or a
dedicated NSX-T vDS can be created during deployment
(enabling three vDS configuration options)
• Limited to one VDS that is dedicated for NSX-T use
(configured via VCF API only)
• Up to 8 pNICs supported per host
*Supported when VxRail is deployed using VxRail API or Offline Deployment Tool (ODT) only at this time

VCF with Tanzu benefits
Accelerate collaboration of IT operations and developer teams for modern apps at scale
VMware Cloud Foundation on VxRail provides:
1. Create upstream compliant Kubernetes clusters (TKG Clusters) and VMs within dedicated resource pools
2. Run Kubernetes workloads directly on ESXi hosts (vSphere Pods)
IT Operator:
• Create namespaces with dedicated memory, CPU,
and storage for K8s
• Manage and monitor vSphere Pods, VMs,
and TKCs using the same tools as with regular
VMs.
• Full visibility over VMs, vSphere Pods, and TKCs
Developer:
• Run workloads consisting of both
containers and VMs on the same
platform
• Create and manage multiple K8s
clusters inside a namespace
Having Kubernetes running on the hypervisor layer eases the collaboration between vSphere
administrators and DevOps teams, because both roles are working with the same objects.

Cloud Foundation on VxRail benefits
The best way to run VMware Tanzu at scale
VMware Cloud Foundation on VxRail provides:
1. A proven, prescriptive approach for implementing a modern VMware based turnkey private cloud
2. Advanced automation to deploy, configure, and manage the full VMware SDDC and HCI infrastructure software
and hardware stack (vSphere with Tanzu, vSAN, NSX, VxRail software and hardware firmware)
IT Operator:
• Easily allocate and manage infrastructure
at scale
• Simplify NSX-T deployment and
configuration
• Fully automated full stack lifecycle
management
Developer:
• A consistent platform for hosting VMs,
vSphere pods, and TKCs
• Full access to vSphere with K8s to include
Cloud Native Storage (vSAN)
• A highly responsive IT Infrastructure team w/
response times measured in minutes vs. days
Running VCF with Tanzu on VxRail provides a best-in-class modern turnkey
hybrid cloud platform for hosting both traditional and modern application workloads.

Create upstream compliant Kubernetes clusters (TKG Clusters) and VMs within dedicated resource pools 2. Run Kubernetes workloads directly on ESXi hosts (vSphere Pods) IT Operator: • Create namespaces with dedicated memory, CPU, and storage for K8s • Manage and monitor vSphere Pods, VMs, and TKCs using the same tools as with regular VMs. • Full visibility over VMs, vSphere Pods, and TKCs Developer: • Run workloads consisting of both containers and VMs on the same platform • Create and manage multiple K8s clusters inside a namespace Having Kubernetes running on the hypervisor layer eases the collaboration between vSphere administrators and DevOps teams, because both roles are working with the same objects.
  • 32. © Copyright 2021 Dell Inc. 33 of 71 Cloud Foundation on VxRail benefits The best way to run VMware Tanzu at scale VMware Cloud Foundation on VxRail provides: 1. A proven, prescriptive approach for implementing a modern VMware based turnkey private cloud 2. Advanced automation to deploy, configure, and manage the full VMware SDDC and HCI infrastructure software and hardware stack (vSphere with Tanzu, vSAN, NSX, VxRail software and hardware firmware) IT Operator: • Easily allocate and manage infrastructure at scale • Simplify NSX-T deployment and configuration • Fully automated full stack lifecycle management Developer: • A consistent platform for hosting VMs, vSphere pods, and TKCs • Full access to vSphere with K8s to include Cloud Native Storage (vSAN) • A highly responsive IT Infrastructure team w/ response times measured in minutes vs. days Running VCF with Tanzu on VxRail provides a best-in-class modern turnkey hybrid cloud platform for hosting both traditional and modern application workloads.
