Volunteer Position Description
Position Title: Daycamp Assistant
Purpose/Goals of Position: To help ensure the safety of campers at all times while keeping them engaged in
the structured activities.
Purpose/Goals of Unit: To lead in the development and delivery of outstanding neighborhood,
recreation, social, cultural, fire, and emergency medical services and facilities.
Responsibilities: -Assist camp leaders with facilitating games and activities
-Assist with supervising campers and ensuring they are safe at all times
-Act as a role model for all campers
-Communicate any problems as they arise
Training & Supervision All Daycamp Assistant volunteers are required to attend the annual Daycamp
Training sessions held in June. At these sessions, volunteers gain knowledge
on the facilities, how to facilitate a game or activity, safety procedures, etc.
Daycamp Assistants also receive a Daycamp Volunteer Manual as a reference
tool.
Requirements: -Minimum of 13 years old
-Previous volunteer experience an asset
-Energy and enthusiasm
-Interest in working with children
Health & Safety: Complete a Hazard Assessment of the volunteer position and review the
assessment with the volunteer.

-Be evaluated on your performance and receive a letter of reference (if
requested)
-Receive an invitation to the end of season Volunteer Party
-Receive a volunteer t-shirt.
Time Commitment: Volunteers must commit to a minimum of two, full week (Monday – Friday)
camps in July and August. Volunteer shifts are typically from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
